  1. More Crowded House excellence.  That ending verse, and the crowd, and the smiles of joy on their faces.  All beautiful:

The finger of blame has turned upon itself
And I'm more than willing to offer myself
Do you want my presence or need my help?
Who knows where that might lead
    I fall

My grandmother always got me the coolest top of the line toys of the season while I was growing up. Then the trending wardrobes of the time during my teens and early 20s.

I asked her how she always knew what to buy.

She said she would walk into the store with her latest pic of me, tell the sales person my age, and let them do the work.  Smart lady and a sales persons dream client.

In my younger days, for Christmas, I used to buy my mom either a purse/billfold.....something like that.  I would find the hottest chick in the office and tell them my dilemma "I have no idea what I'm looking for, yada, yada."  EVERYTIME, the chick would say, "I'll help".  At the end of shopping spree, "Let's go grab a drink and something to eat....I'm buying".  Ply said personal shopper with liquor.  Great success.

  3. I've been relistening to a lot of Elton John stuff after reading Bernie Taupin's autobiography.  I've really gotten back in to "Tumbleweed Connection", especially the CD version which includes a different version of "Madman Across The Water" with Mick Ronson on guitar instead of the version on the "Madman" album that was released the following year, with Davey Johnstone on guitar.  Mick adds so much more urgency and tension to the song.  Plus, I LOVE "My Father's Gun".

Likely because his 2A school didn't have enough players to send plays in via rotating players. I can't remember anyone with sideline plays, and I am a little before you.

Nope.  Had enough players.  This coach and his DC came in my jr year and brought the signs with him after being out of coaching for a couple ofyears.  They were really simple.  Formation, main play, and sometimes backup play.   I don't know if anyone we played signaled plays in.  I was too busy looking at Teresa Gilbert and Tammy Swaim, especially when they wore the white cheerleading outfits.

I've been thinking about the last few posts on this thread for a few days.  I know that my rock bottom last year seems almost simple when compared to others.  It's all so relative.  And seeing the news about Matthew Perry really makes it sink in.   If he really was clean and sober and it was just a heart attack, well, that's a fate a lot of us addicts could see in the days to come.  The abuse doesn't have to kill you when you're drunk.    It can do it later.

I listened to him narrate his audio book.  He didn't "sound" sober then.  He had excuses for that when people mentioned it (I read it in one sitting).
On the "Friends" episode when everyone was worried about him, he had excuses for that (dental surgery).

The book was also as much about who he fucked, who he wanted to fuck, who fucked him over, etc.  I may have mentioned it early in this thread but I wouldn't recommend that book to anyone to read.  I felt worse after reading it.  Just gave me a dirty feeling.

All in all, a really sad story.

No.  Defensive signals were common. Offensive signals weren't at all.  We had zero offensive signals.  Even in two minute we used a rote script and audible calls.  Nothing was ever signaled in from the sideline.

I only ever played one team that used offensive signals.

In 1978, our small 2A school signaled in off/def plays from the sidelines.

Lol.  How many of your opponents used offensive sideline signals in the early 2000s?

Not sure what you mean by this but high schools have used offensive and defensive sideline signals since the 70s.  We had two coaches sending the play in with signals.  One was live, the other was a dummy.

  8. I have a weekly Zoom meeting with a group of about 15.  One dude has had a chirping smoke detector for over a fucking year.  Easy to tell who is it.....so we all sent him a 9v battery about 3 months ago.  I guess that is the hill he is going to die on because he STILL hasn't changed it.
