This is pretty scary, actually, and a super-good explanation for why we've been sucking on defense. There's arguably no more important position group on defense to have highly rated players than LB. The difference they can make is astounding.

Jordan Hicks is a good example. He had 104 tackles for us in 2014.

The most anyone has had for us the previous few years:

    2021 - Demarvion Overshown: 74
    2020 - Juwan Mitchell: 62
    2019 - Joseph Ossai: 90
    2018 - Gary Johnson: 90
    2017 - Malik Jefferson: 110
    2016 - Breckyn Hager: 65
    2015 - Jeter Jinkens: 75

Elite LBs make all the difference. We have had a lot of "coach 'em up" position coaches at LB over the years, but not elite recruiters. That has to change.

good competent LBs are essential to any good defense but they are generally the least important players in terms of impact and rarity. EDGE players are the most important and impactful, followed by CBs, then DTs, then Safeties. You can't have a great D without good LBs but you cant have a great D without a great EDGE player.

We're not basing anything on one practice, but I went to the open one last year and the open one this year. He looks like he's regressed, if anything.

i hope not because that would be even more troubling from a program perspective.

Yeah we can....give me the currently unproven in game guy over the shits himself in game guy.

We just going to repeat last year, aint we?

well, my hope, if we go with Card, would be that we would see dramatic improvement as most QBs tend to do between their 1st and 2nd years.

We aint winning with Card brother

but we can with a guy who cant beat Card for the spot?

if Sark starts Card (i am on record that I think he will start Ewers), its because he thinks Card gives the team the best chance to win now. I dont think Sark is a Card homer and no doubt he wanted Ewers to come in and win the job. so if that doesnt happen, it most likely means that Ewers isnt far enough along to take the job and Sark doesnt want to ruin him.

  6. Worthy looks better than last year, brennan thompson is the fastest guy on the field but has the drops. bijan is unstoppable. great energy from the team and everyone is super focused. QE puts more arc on the ball than Card. GP sighting.

also, they are putting the side panels on Godzillatron.

  7. i seriously doubt the report that Ewers doesnt work hard or spend much time in his playbook. Im assuming the SLC program is a lot like the LT program and both are built on a foundation of hard work and spending hours in their playbook. This isnt new to Quinn. Also, I have heard nothing but respect for the kid and his approach to the game from the folks i know inside the program. players and coaches do not respect players who dont put in the time.

  8. Again, I expect Ewers to be named the starter. But from everything I have heard, both players are respected and the team is behind both of them. Both QBs are hard workers who are extremely talented but neither has proven themselves on Saturday.

I'm sorry, but this is a bit of a retcon.

Yes, he was mostly productive at LT but that program is a beast unto itself and to say Card didn't have a tendency to turtle in big games prior to arriving on the 40 acres is a little untrue. What about the 2018 state semi-final where they got outclassed by North Shore 51-10? I think it will look pretty familiar.

tbh, i have mostly tried to block that game out of my memory as NS destroyed LT. But Im pretty sure you can watch Hudson running around, dodging defenders, and doing his best to do something with the ball. I dont think there were any holes open nor receivers open so it was a tough game for him and LT. now, go watch the next semi against NS and see how he battled the whole game and nearly brought LT back to win it.

  10. bench 225 - i can do sets of 5

squat - i usually just rep 225 for sets of 8-10 - no reason to go heavy on it.

40 - definitely over 5 secs,  but back in the day....

  11. it was entertaining. he made a few really interesting points, but it was a little bit too much of a speech celebrating himself. There were parts where he failed horribly at attempting to humble brag. the commencement speaker at the Plan II ceremony on the other hand taught a master class in commencement speeches. His speech is the best I have ever heard at a graduation.
