I think the biggest mistake this year from a roster construction was bringing back Mitchell over Kaluma. Unfortunately, Kaluma is a much better player than Mitchell as I said over the summer.

Kaluma, Abmas, and Disu together would have been nasty.

I guess there was no guarantee that Kaluma would have picked Texas but sounded like we were definitely in the mix before Mitchell decided to return.

Kaluma would have a better replacement of what Allen brought to the team, with a capable 3 point shot. I agree. Hunter, Abmas, Kaluma, Disu, and anyone would have been a spicy team.

I think he's a good coach but doesn't fit in well at OU or other big schools.  He's not a monster recruiter but does well in the right place.  I wish him the best but definitely don't cry over him leaving.  I'll buy him a beer sometime here in Chicago.  OU is a very underrated hoops program but their gym is a dumpster and fan support has waned even further after the Thunder came to town.  They can get a good recruiter and at worst be average in the SEC, but they should be better than that.

He's a guy that does better when he can develop kids over a 3-4 year period. That likely isn't happening with the portal at OU. Maybe DePaul can afford him more of that coaching experience. Kinda like Shaka returning to his roots at Marquette.

JD Davis released by SF today. Assuming he could play 1B, bring him in and move on from Singleton. He’s a good hitter and can play 3B or OF.

This is the type of move that teams that are serious about winning the WS make. They try to put real MLB players on their bench.

    Beard is a great coach.

The point is it's just amusing to see people argue "Beard is a top 5 coach and RT is not our standard" when reality is RT will likely accomplish more than Beard in his first 2 years. I'm not saying RT is better than Beard but this extreme is hilarious.

That can't get over the fact that the past is the past, and sometimes coaches get better when their situations get better as well. Beard was likely to become an all time great here, but his personal problems made sure to burn that bridge down to the rivets. Just because Terry couldn't have continued success at Fresno or UTEP doesn't mean he's going to fall flat on his face here.

All I know, the data points Terry is stacking up coaching the players at Texas are trending in a good direction, and he's more than capable of bringing in talent.

You don't know how it works around here.

Beard would have definitely won a national title with last year's roster he built (even though that's 100% speculative) and he gets absolutely no criticism for the roster he built in year 1.

It's worse than that, Beard built a two-year roster with plenty of fucking holes that would have been rebuilt from scratchno matter who was the head coach. It's likely he'd be no better than Terry is this season, because Beard's teams routinely had double digit losses with middling Big 12 conference records.

He built the roster in year 1 and won 1 NCAA tournament game and 0 Big 12 tournament games.

It's amusing people are willing to give Beard the benefit of the doubt that he would have won a Big 12 tournament title/made an Elite 8 in year 2 while not questioning the roster he built in his first year.

Not just that, but glossing over Terry coaching Texas to the EE, while in a similar position KU got upset in the 2nd round as a #1 seed. I mean coaching veteran rosters is easy according to most.

His roster build this year has been his biggest negative. If Tre Johnson is not outstanding next season, they may miss the tournament.

Beard built an elite 8 roster in two seasons. RT will be starting over from scratch in his year 2

Was Beard's roster elite in year one? Who talked him into recruiting Rice, because it wasn't Beard that identified him.

He had to build an entire roster from scratch due to shitty recruiting his boss did. The only two HS kids on this roster Beard brought in and stayed more than 1 season were Anamewke and Mitchell, and everyone considered Mitchell a one and done when he signed with Texas. You aren't building continued success having to replace your roster every year, and yet Terry brought in a roster that by every metric was top 20-25.

I am sorry you disagreed with a portal class that was in top 10 and he also brought in two HS kids after the Holland and Johnson bailed (hint, they would have also bailed on Beard). Was the roster perfect, nope. Likely returning players include Weaver and Shedrick. That is already a better start than what was waiting after the Miami loss. He's bringing in the #9 freshmen class and has 3-4 other guys returning. It's much easier to target portal needs when they are specific as opposed to an entire rotation and sometimes the portal players don't work out, Look at KU with Morris and Dickinson, both were complete busts for different reasons.

RT saved this season and will produce the minimum expectation by making the tournament.

That’s not going to get him fired in year one or two, but is not the expectation most fans have for the program moving forward (especially with the resources UT has). Most fans don’t see a foundation for much improvement next season with the expected personnel losses, but things can change quickly with the portal. Many fear we will be in the same position or worse next season. Nothing has changed that perception this season.

What about his recruiting has you worried? He currently has the #9 HS class, pulled in a very good portal class, and convinced Disu, Mitchell, and Hunter to return for another season. Recruiting is the least thing I am worried about with Terry. We lost more talented players last season than we will this season, and will have a bigger group of program guys with multiple seasons returning as opposed to Anamewke and Cunningham as the only surefire guys returning from last year's roster.

Gerry thinks Texas should move on from Hunter and Mitchell to try to bring in more guys with upside offensively from the portal.

I have a suspicion of what is going on here, and no, it's not that you're a troll.  It's a little more nuanced than that.  Congrats on your degrees and your pay stubs.

derka is in the same boat and it's very obvious.

Ah yes, don't be an internet tough guy, because that's my role. message me for more details. What meteic(s) are you counting here?

Holding his knee and saying "my ankle fucked up bro"

Probably couldn't reach his ankle, but it wasn't his knee that got hurt from what I saw. No matter what happens, just shut him down for the rest of the season. It was a successful season for him, no need to rush him back to play out the string. We should be tanking from here on out.

Disu First Team All Big 12 and Most Improved Player

Abmas 2nd Team and All Newcomer Team

No way Disu could be most improved player, derka would have you believe this coaching staff fucking sucks from top to bottom.

Who exactly is "bullish" on RT?  We're stuck with him.  I would think most UT fans would be rooting for him to succeed.  That doesn't mean they think he will.

Anyone that strays from the Rodney Terry fucking sucks group think is by their accounts bullish. They also think that Terry can only be judged successful in their eyes if he makes the Sweet 16 every year, something that Bill Self is slightly better than 50/50 at accomblishing. They also think that a coach that was 0-4 in the NCAAT with a .595 overall winning percentage before last year was an elite coach. They also think that a coach that has had two complete seasons of less than 10 losses is currently Top 5 in the sport.

I am not here to win internet points.

You are also not here to give a good accounting of the three math based degrees you apparrantly have.

  15. 38 minutes ago, UTEE97 said:

So we lost to two good teams out of conference and that somehow justifies we are above average? Oh you got me on sitting below the midpoint comment.

I mean almost every measure used to quanitfy at-large teams into the NCAAT has Texas as an above average team this season, but by all means continue your stupidty.

2005 NLCS Game 2, I was at the game in St. Louis (total shithole) and talked so much shit as Oswald dominated them.  I love that guy, he was fearless.

Game 6 was better. I could tell that the Cardinals had no chance after his 1st inning battle with Pujols.
