  1. Two weeks ago we dined our at the Royal Princess Victoria Pub/Gin House (1829) in Shepherd's Bush. The fish & chips were outstanding - the margarita rather lame. The Scotch Egg was different, but tasty.

  2. Never having been an angler, I don't know any details about the program - just that it existed.

If a state-stocked body of water is on public land and is safely accessible, then those with current fishing licenses should be allowed to fish there.

Private land is private, regardless if it received a state benefit such as being stocked with fish.

I grew up in Southern California, and Taco Bell was actually pretty good in the 70s when it was a smaller local chain. That commercial shows the enchirito, a delicious California-style enchilada (red sauce and black olives are a must). It all went downhill in the 80s though. Of course, nothing will ever top Pup 'N' Taco for those of us who grew up in LA.

20+ years ago I had my 1st & last Enchirito. I shit like a goose & puked like a Kappa Sig pledge for 24 hours afterwards.

Snyder - proof you shouldn't mess with old dudes.

  4. Turns out we didn't need it at all.  Landing at Heathrow we walked through an empty cue maze right up to the customs dude who asked us a few blah questions, and that was it.

Returning to Austin we were in the wheelchair line and it took us 2 minutes to get by that customs guy.

  5. After a year in the planning for our month long Golden Anniversary trip to England & France, Mrs. Brat & I finally made it to London to meet our Brit friends a week ago. On our first outing Saturday we Ubered from a rented townhouse in the 'burb of Shepherd's Bush down to St. Paul's - a destination must for Mrs. Brat (a devout religious person).

The magnificent old Wren building was simply amazing & impressive, and she even climbed with our Brit lady friend the 279 stairs up  all the way to the "Whispering Gallery" halfway up the rotunda and back down. I & my fellow non-churchgoer buddy sat below just admiring the huge place. Then we went down to the crypt beneath to explore to various tombs of famous English heroes. While rushing from one tomb to find Wellington's resting place, Mrs. Brat totally missed seeing a short staircase outside a large gate and took a violent faceplant fall to the marble floor. I was behind our two Brit friends, but saw her hit face first as hard as a melon on concrete. That's the worst thing I've ever seen in my life and damn near gave me a heart attack - not to mention the stunning pain it caused for my 73 year old wife.

She did break her fall somewhat with her left arm, causing bone fractures. Both her shins & hands were severely bruised  and had some lacerations. Of course she broke her glasses along with her pride, and her face looked like she had gone several rounds with Mike Tyson. Luckily she did not break any of her teeth, but suffered several cuts which left a lot of good Texas blood on the cold marble floor of St. Paul's venerated crypt.

The story of getting her out of the crypt which has no elevators ("lifts", in local parlance) to a hospital is enough fodder for another thread, but suffice to say we did manage to resume a highly cut down London sightseeing itinerary over the next few days and cancelling the remaining two week tour of France & Paris before coming home on a rebooked return flight (British Air), which is an additional story of nuttiness & learning experience with the cold-ass corporate mentality.

After returning yesterday Mrs. Brat is resting comfortably at home and has regained her walking mobility, although very gingerly. I lost 8 pounds just pushing her around in a rented wheelchair through Westminster Abbey, around the Tower Bridge area, on the Thames River Cruise, to the Royal Princess Pub/Gin House (1829) for dinner one evening, and for 5 hours in & around Hampton Court.

  6. Only thing I'm really worried about is our house sitter discovering the last dozen cooked & frozen Del Rio Tortilla factory tamales hidden in the back of the freezer. After a Whataburger Sweet & Spicy, that's supposed to be our 1st dinner when we return home.

  7. Some of you guys let it go right over your heads. Was kidding abut the BBQ & TexMex.

Thanks to the others for the hints. Yes, we'll be doing some pub food. Our Brit friends who are driving us around know both towns well and will keep us away from the typical tourist traps. Both are foodies.

  8. Leaving on a jet plane for Heathrow soon.

After sampling their English fare of meat pies, fish & chips, weird sausages, & the like, I'll be ready for a familiar fix. Any suggestions? (no MickeyD jokes please)

Same for Paris - am not a fan of snails, fungus, frog legs, & horse meat.

  9. Drove through that intersection several days ago. Ya better plan ahead which lane yer gonna merge into to get where you're going, or you could be fooked.

I avoid that part of Round Rock as much as possible.
