I was on the board at Mo for several years, including when Tim was camp director (he left for a while, then we brought him back as president).
We’d experienced minor (but still scary) flooding in the past, and there have also been fires in the area.
As a board, we spent some time - not a lot, it didn’t take a lot - on disaster planning. What do we do if the ranch gets cut off by a fire? What do we do if there’s a flood? Even “what do we do if there’s a medical emergency here in the sticks?” BTW, we signed a contract with a medical evacuation chopper service for the last one. It’s saved at least one life from what I understand.
And Tim is damned good at what he does, he’s a real pro. So, yeah, there are ways to do disaster planning at such facilities right. There’s no way to be ready for everything, but you need to have a good team and empower them to take action.

My kids all went to Mo Ranch. Relieved to see they had competent staff. Although from what I recall all of their buildings are on somewhat higher ground than the river.

Lost track but someone ask how much time… I cross checked … 1:14am NWS flash flood warning, a dad went to the camp to search for his daughter - there’s a fb post on DT - he shares he was talking with his daughter approx 4am when the phone went dead and the assumption is that’s when they were swept away. As many have suggested there were several hours between the NWS flash flood warning and the time the camp was hit.

If that’s the post I watched the daughter was 21 and staying in a friend’s dad’s cabin by the river, not at Camp Mystic. Not sure it changes the point you were trying to make though.

Seizing the opportunity to discuss policy solutions during the tiny window of time when people actually feel like thinking about the issue is not "spiking the football" but I understand why some people can't tell the difference between being criticized and being confronted with undeniable facts about the consequences of the ineffective policy solutions they have supported.

Trust me. Nobody takes any pleasure in this. We're seizing this opportunity because we hope these discussions lead to changes that will lower future death tolls.

I was commenting on workswithseed’s surprising return the website. I have no problem with the dialogue in this thread.

i have one person on ignore. i doubt that many (if anyone) else have him on ignore. i almost never see him around the boards as we generally don’t post in the same forums. but with that said, this guy has *literally* never made a single sincere post towards me. every single post is combative, or trolling, or making some joke at my expense so he can high five the rest of the goof troop, and after years of this i just realized that he’s literally never going to to say anything to me that isn’t some type of trolling or shit talking. it’s not even close to the worst of what i’ve gotten, it’s just the same thing every time.

this, despite the fact that i almost never engage him to begin with, and when i do it’s never a troll or some jab at him. what’s funny is that you could never convince him (or people like him) that the issue lies entirely with him, and not me. i’m certain he’d be the first to tell you i’m some huge problem poster, totally unaware that if every interaction we’ve ever had were compiled and posted it would literally just be him talking shit to me for years on end, unprovoked. thank god the number of people like him has really waned over the years during my time on this site. just a couple holdouts left to go.

    So, Rex, right?

Meanwhile most of you will look for the pos rep of the same 6 individuals making sure the librul cabal gets their points through. You were all big bad country kids working on pawpaw’s ranch right? Or are we still talking about daddy’s guns at the farm? Always fascinating watching the double brain this board has

    Internet rep points. Serious business.

Pretty good explainer on NPR a little while ago. Basically

these nationwide injunctions in general are a big problem for both sides (!!)

this was the dumbest case to pick to rule on them because it most likely is a slam dunk to certify as a class action (and should happen soon)

all signs point to Trump losing when birthright citizenship ruling on merits comes (arguments begin in October)

very possible someone born with birthright citizenship gets deported if they are in a state not currently suing the administration and proceedings happen before SCOTUS issue ruling on the actual EO (but apparently something in this ruling put in by ACB makes that much less likely)

experts were Painter (ethics lawyer for W’s WH and some retired lady federal judge whose name I didn’t catch

I think the only nit I would pick with this summary is that if the current case gets amended to assert a class action the district court in fairly short order could certify a class or perhaps issue a new injunction based on a proposed class (not sure if court has power to enjoin for entire prospective class prior to certification) to prevent anyone from being deported under EO before current injunction expires (which I thought I heard wouldn't be for another 30 days).

I mean don't you have to join a class action? even if free (considering there is no payout in the end I doubt it) aren't there time frames? so to get relief you have to hope you are not deported before you are able to join a class action?

We no longer have rights, those have been replaced as jump through hoops. I can't wait for the interpreations of right to life, you can only sue once you are dead.

Typically you are automatically in if you fall within the scope of the certified class and would then have to opt out if you didn't want the ruling to apply to you.

Wife. She was born in thr US, so I don't know if she technically gained citizenship through birthright or through or some other means at the time of adoption.

As I recall, the language of the EO was only prospective in nature (at least at this point) (presumably to protect Barron, the cyber).

  13. @TwiceHorn Do you know if the plaintiff(s) in this case can easily amend to assert class action allegations?  If so I wonder whether and how quickly the district court could then certify the class or issue a TRO/TI based on class action claims.  Seems like the only way to address this nationwide.

The ramifications of this decision on cases in which class action certification would not be available are huge and will likely lead to bizarre outcomes.

Congress and now the courts have ceded their authority to the executive branch.  Welcome to the new fascist monarchy.
