  1. I did pork tenderloins last night for Mother's Day.   Normally, I do direct and get a pretty good sear but  did them indirect with my place setter in and cooked them on a rack above a aluminum drip pan with a little apple juice, apple cider vinegar and water.  Rubbed them down with a cumin/paprika/cayenne/salt/pepper mixture about 8 hours before I threw them on the grill.   Pulled them when I got 140 internal temps, tented and let them rest about 10 minutes.   Sliced them up (drippings galore) and poured all of that back over top of the meat on the plate.

I work from home. It’s highly likely the next place I work will have my happy ass working from home. I also work in tech. Amazon coming to town raises my salary. I’m in.

And to those of you saying Austin traffic doesn’t suck, I defy you to drive from Ben White to 183 on I-35 anytime between 7 AM and midnight any day of the week and stay at or above the speed limit the whole way. I defy you to make it the whole way without coming to a complete stop at least once. Even before all the lanes got added to the Katy freeway and those extra toll roads got added, Houston at least had some times of every day where you could move down the freeway at highway speeds. That shit doesn’t exist in Austin.

    Dude,

I was in the Metroplex last Saturday.  On I-20 from 360 to I-45 (20 miles) at 7:30 in the evening, there were wrecks galore, at least three slow downs under 20 MPH and another complete stoppage.

On Friday, in Houston, I was trying to get from 59/610 (Galleria area) at 1:00 pm.  59 came to a complete stop before the intersection with I45/288.  I ended up getting off at the Louisiana exit and driving through downtown.   Major accident had almost shut all three freeways down.

Austin is not some unique and delicate flower.

I still find it simultaneously fascinating and terrifying that in the age of modern technology a 777 could just disappear like that.

    Or did it?

  4. Both Bandelier and Kasha-Katuwe National Monuments are worth checking out.   Too ambitious to do them both in the same day although you could combine Bandelier with a side trip to Los Alamos and check out the stuff there related to making the atomic bomb back in the 40's.   We didn't do the science museum in town but it's  supposed to be worth it.

Skip The Shed in town unless you manage to walk by and there's no line.   Try Restaurant Martin, La Boca and and El Meson.   We enjoyed all over our trips there.

Thanks for the input.  Planning to cash in some sapphire points, and the Four Seasons is "on sale" on the site.  Is that a good location, or too close to Pike Place?  I'm wary of it being like staying near Fisherman's Wharf in San Fran...over priced/sub par touristy establishments.  It looks like the Westin and Mayflower Park are closer to Belltown.  Also a place called Staypineapple Hotel 5 that would be quite a bit cheaper.

Pike Place is not like Fisherman's wharf.   It is a touristy thing but once it closes down the area calms  lot.   The Westin is in good location and the Mayflower Park is a nice one too.   Skip Staypineapple.

Trivial traffic tickets that require court dates that are utilized for no other action than to schedule another court date.

HPD occasionally sets up on the northbound I-45 entrance ramp from Allen Parkway and gets people for expired registration.  And they do this a 5:00 in the afternoon when the ramp already back ups almost all the way to Taft.  I'm curious how many wrecks they have caused.  Oh, that's another ticket they can write!

Rittenhouse for a couple bucks more than Old Overholt is well worth it.

I concur.   Picked up a bottle a few weeks ago.   I'm tossed on whether the Bulleit or Rittenhouse is my favorite.  But I'm not going to decide and will be happy with the choices.

Cross posting.  I'll be visiting with my wife and 3 month old son in June.  Most likely staying Sunday - Monday.

Some good stuff in this thread already, but where would y'all stay?  Neighborhood? We're open to hotel or airbnb.  Would be nice to have walkable options for food/drink.

Look for a condo in Belltown.  We've stayed in the building that also has the Macrina Bakery and Belltown Pizza twice now and love the location (bounded by Wall, Battery, 1st and 2nd streets.   It's within walking distance of the Space Needle, Pike Place and all points downtown.

That's showing $400+ per night but I have never paid more than $250 per night for that building.
