  1. Couple of my beefs...

    1.  The Kessel Run.  weren't we told SW that he did it because of his superior navigation ability?   not some downloaded computer.   and Lando is the only one with this star map?

    2.  Lady Proxima.   stupid just like Jabba.  super criminals that can't defend themselves. seem like aliens like that would be pretty easy to kill.  Han almost did in Solo by throwing a rock?

    3. The Rebel leader.    Yep.   we have to cater to everyone so let's make it a girl.   and something ethnic at that.  Nevermind that she fought Beckett on the train like she was older and bigger.   Nah...  those are just plot holes that don't matter.

Overall I enjoyed it.  took the hooligans to a matinee and we walked out liking it.    but someone said above..   if this wasn't a SW movie it would be panned and tremendously so.   and I'm about sick of the crossover Nissan ads.

  2. I can't stand audio news stories.   I know it's what kids crave but I just want to pull  up an online  news story and read it.    if I'm at work and need a few minutes of surfing I can't have some bubble headed bleach blond telling me if the heads dead yet.   I want to read a few paragraphs and be done.   oh well .

While this is my favorite show of all time, it's documented that Ambrose fabricated some of his writings and intentionally claimed some things that were proven to be false.

Thankfully it's mainly small stuff with Band of Brothers, but it's much larger stuff with some of his other work.

    He plagiarized.

    Hardin House Driveby

I lived on Nueces with a deck that overlooked the Hardin House.   I would go with Hardin House Creeper.

    Candy's Busted Ass

    Memory of 1939

  5. Workday is #2.   That's complete bullshit.

Starbuck's is #30.  Opening bathrooms to the masses since 2018!

Sirius XM is 35 in a dying industry.

Anheuser-Busch is #37.   Guess making crappy beer from corn is innovative.  Unless you count buying small breweries and fuck them up.

Molson Coors is #41.  Same crap, different breweries.

  6. Bend in the summer is going to hot but it will be a dry heat.

The coast is going to be much cooler.  If it gets over 75 or so that's rare.   I would head out there.  As others have said, Cannon Beach is really worth it.

The lessons in leadership that Winters gives are profound, like when he was chewing Buck Compton out for gambling with the troops:

    Winters: You were gambling, Buck.
Buck: So what? Soldiers do that. I don't deserve a reprimand for it.
    Winters: What if you'd won?
    Buck: What?
Winters: What if you'd won? Never put yourself in a position where you can take from these men.

I concur.   That scene has always stuck with me.   It's how I try work with my team and we're just paper pushing office workers.   Made a big impact on how I work with others.

First, it's all based on a book written nearly 50 years after the fact based on stories by a bunch of brave men who are trying to remember details at an advanced age. There's a reason human eye witness testimony is almost always a shoddy piece of evidence in a trial. They aren't lying, but over the years stories change and a more favorable version of the events tends to form as time passes. They couldn't even all agree on Sobel. Some of E company saw him as worthless while others said they wouldn't be alive today if he hadn't been so hard and demanding of them at that time.

Also, the guy I quoted was making his wild assumption based on this movie which only followed this small handful of men. I know there were tons of great stories of heroism to be told but this account didnt recall them.

Point is people then were a mix of good, bad, brave, cowardly, determined, and lazy just like people of every generation since. Human nature is to endulge in a reverence for fictionalized nostalgia as more snd more time passes. That's why there are always the "good ol' days" which in many instances weren't always so good.

And you don't think Amborse went and read reports and other source material to back up all the shit that was portrayed.   I understand your point but it's pretty clear that this was not completely made up bull shit.

a fictionalized cinema account of a small handful of them.

Barely fictionalized.  And while we venerate Easy Company, there were dozens upon dozens of companies just like them.   Go ask the Marines on Guadalcanal.   Or the soldiers of the 1st Infantry Division.   Or troopers from the 2nd Armored.  Or....   Yeah, small handful my ass.

I went home for lunch and pulled in the trash can and recycle bin.  Wife hears me and comes out and tells me to leave them outside the gate because the service she hired to clean them is coming today.  She hired a company to clean the inside of our trash cans.  To clean the inside of trash cans.  Trash cans.

I admit that every now and then if some putrid shit leaks inside of them they can stink, but they are outside and that situation is rare.  I dared not ask how much they charged for this "service."

Willing to bet that the "service" cleans her.

The most important thing to do other than saving early and often is to retire with zero debt. House/cars payed off. Of course you never own your house in Texas because the tax man cometh, but you get the gist.

I see people in their 50s buying that new construction home because they finally can and get that 30 year loan.

I bought my home in 2011 on a 30 year note.   2 Years ago, I refi-ed to a 20 year note with the payment being about the same as the old note.  Annually, I put about a full payment and half extra against the principal so my hope is to have the house paid off in maybe 14-15 years.  I'll still be 5-7 years from retirement at that point but no house payment will be nice.
