  1. I finally started researching pellet grills and boy is there a rabbit hole to go down.   I am mostly a weekend warrior cooker but do throw burgers and chicken on during the week days, especially right now that I am home every day.   When I do cook all day(ish), I usually do ribs (and like to do 2-3 slabs minimum), pork butt (usually in the 12-14 lb range, and an occasional brisket.   Also like to put planked salmon on the grill.   Brisket is my weak spot because adding charcoal to an Egg during long cooks was a pain in the ass.

I kind of zeroed in on Camp Chef, Pit Boss, Green Mountain and Traeger.   Z Grills look promising but they still look too "upstart" even though they made grills for other people before launching their own line a few years back.  I am replacing something with 314 sq inches of cooking surface (618 if I double racked but rarely did.)  I want to go bigger mainly because when I did ribs or something like a turkey it was a really tight squeeze.

Everything I'm looking at is in the 450-575 sq inch (Green Mountain Daniel Boone and Traeger Pro 575) up to 800 sq inch range (Camp Chef Woodwind, Traeger Pro 34, Pit Boss 820.)  I also really like the Green Mountain Jim Bowie (658 sq inch)   Everything has it's lovers and haters.   Most of the issues seem to be either items that were delivered as damaged or it broke within the first few days/weeks.   While I am looking for bang for the buck, overall quality is important.   Trying to keep the overall price under or near $750 but for quality, I would go higher if it was right.

Is WiFi enabled really worth it?   I can see it being one of those things that I'd love if I had it but I've been cooking for 30 years without it so....

A place here in Houston has both the GM Daniel Boone (458 sq inch) and Jim Bowie (658 sq inch) with and without WiFi.   The ones sans WiFi are $499 and $599 but with WiFi it goes up to $699 and $899.  The Camp Chef Woodwind 24 with WiFi is bigger (797 sq inch) and cheaper ($799).   The Traeger 575 slides in at the price too but is smaller than the JB and the Woodwind.   Unless I missed something Pitt Boss and Z Grills do not seem to have any WiFi enabled cookers.   So back to that WiFi question....  Worth it?

Anyone have a model (or something similar) that I have mentioned here?

How does he feel about not seeing the sun for a month?  My first February up there the sun came out 1 day.  28 days, and sun on one of them.  I remember the day, too, because I woke up thinking I had left a light on in the other room.

    SAD is a real thing.

Other than the high costs and shitty traffic and depressing winters, most of what you hear is not as bad as they say.

And I'd move back in a heartbeat.   The winters aren't as bad as everyone says.   It doesn't get that cold and you can be outside most of the time.   The rain is not a downpour like thunderstorms in other parts of the country.   Get outdoors and enjoy the scenery.

Roe v Wade won't be "reversed," i.e. abortion won't be made federally illegal.  The decision will just be struck down so that abortion legality will get kicked back to the states  And then it'll be made illegal throughout the entire Deep South and a lot of girls who can't afford to drive a thousand miles will have unsafe "back alley" abortions and some of them will die.  And, ironically, all of you good Christian Republicans don't give a solitary fuck about that.

And I wouldn't say Republicans are going after the livelihood of the gay community.  But y'all sure aren't big fans of them having the same civil rights that you and I do, as if they're human beings or something.

Republicans will just paint those poor women who got abortions as sinners.

Wouldn't a Bay of Pigs Award be something like a Waterloo award?

Not only that, there were maybe 5,000 people involved in the invasion.  1,500 ground troops (Brigade 2506, a handful of WWII surplus B-26 medium bombers (7 man crews) and 5 supply ships.   The "invasion" was 59 years ago.   I'm guessing the Bay of Pigs Veteran group has maybe a couple of hundred living members.   Oh, and their website doesn't exist anymore.

Now, I realize  that these freedom fighters were trying to take back their country from Castro.   Because life under Batista and his cronies was so swell.  But this means Trump is proud of his major award from a group that tried to instigate a coup.

  5. Finished Mindhunter.    I went from liking Ford to not and the opposite for Tench.   That scene with Tench at the end at his house was tough but not surprising.

Shepard's take down on Ford at his retirement party was very satisfying.

I think its curious that he calls the virus airborne.  Based on the context, it appears that he got this information in a conversation with Xi.  But most groups, including the WHO had pushed back on the airborne designation until only very recently, once faced with mounting evidence.  I don't want to read too much into that because I suspect Don doesn't know the distinction between airborne transmission and other forms of transmission, but it jumped out at me that that terms was being used in a conversation between Xi and Trump in early Feb.

I have wondered about the airborne thing too.  We know that the Administration has massively undermined the CDC and FDA.  So shouldn't this be criminal?

  7. Humble ISD announced cases at Kingwood High and Kingwood Middle School (one of three feeders).   I only got the email about KHS because they are only notifying you if cases happen at your kids campus.  Friend works at Kingwood Middle so she knew.

The plan was not to open the high schools to all day, every day for a few weeks.  Got a separate email on Thursday that the Board is meeting tomorrow to discuss and vote on going back full time before the original plan.

Yep, the district is run by and populated by morons.
