I went home for lunch and pulled in the trash can and recycle bin.  Wife hears me and comes out and tells me to leave them outside the gate because the service she hired to clean them is coming today.  She hired a company to clean the inside of our trash cans.  To clean the inside of trash cans.  Trash cans.

I admit that every now and then if some putrid shit leaks inside of them they can stink, but they are outside and that situation is rare.  I dared not ask how much they charged for this "service."

Willing to bet that the "service" cleans her.

The most important thing to do other than saving early and often is to retire with zero debt. House/cars payed off. Of course you never own your house in Texas because the tax man cometh, but you get the gist.

I see people in their 50s buying that new construction home because they finally can and get that 30 year loan.

I bought my home in 2011 on a 30 year note.   2 Years ago, I refi-ed to a 20 year note with the payment being about the same as the old note.  Annually, I put about a full payment and half extra against the principal so my hope is to have the house paid off in maybe 14-15 years.  I'll still be 5-7 years from retirement at that point but no house payment will be nice.

That's all been replaced by defined contribution plans (cash balance) / matching 401(k) plans where the company has a fixed or variable obligations to contribute, but not an obligation to provide a set income for life.

Cash balance plans are NOT defined contribution (DC) plans.   They are defined benefit (DB) plans akin to the old fashioned "pension plan".   They credit a participant with a set percentage of their annual salary with interest.   Company I work at has one but they froze it within a few years of my arrival.   It was 6% of comp plus interest.

A DC is either a 403b/401k  or 401a.  403b/401k allows employee deferrals with a possible employer match, non-elective profit sharing (PS) contribution or both.   A 401a plan can have a match or PS contribution.   In the non-profit world you see a lot of 403b deferral plans with a paired 401a plan with the match/PS contribution.   For profits usually sponsor 401k plans.   These DC plans have shifted the retirement burden from the employer to employee.   Never mind that the employer gets to take a sweet deduction on contributions and absolves themselves of what amounts to long term debt payments necessary to an old school DB plan.

A very large chunk of employers make a very small match/PS contribution or nothing at all.   Employers have managed to move retirement savings to us which would be OK except all the money that used to go to a DB plan now goes back to shareholders (publicly traded) or owners/management (closely held/partnerships/LLPs/sole proprietorship/etc.)  If that was used to fund a realistic match or PS contribution or at the very least raise wages at a respectable clip each year, then it would be a reasonable approach to retirement.   But we all know wages have NOT kept up with inflation.

    whats goin on here?

Well.. one of Knuke's eyelids are jammed, and we need a live chicken?.. live chicken to get the hex off of Jose's glove, and nobody seems to kno what to get Jimmy or Millie for their wedding present. We are dealing with a lotta shit out here.

Okay, well, uh... Candlesticks always make a nice gift, and uh, maybe you could find out where she's registered and maybe a place-setting or maybe a silverware pattern. Okay, let's get two! Go get 'em.

Women walking around the office barefoot. Put your fucking shoes on.

How about women just being out of dress code at work in general.   There are several who were what amounts to a flip flop or running shoes.  We're business casual but we're not that casual.

I really liked Buck Compton. He went on to become a famous prosecutor in California.

He prosecuted Sirhan Sirhan in the RFK assassination.   Played baseball at UCLA with Jackie Robinson

Got to meet Buck at a book signing at Ft. Lewis.   I've told this before but here goes.   The signing was at the PX.   He was sitting in the lobby with maybe 3-4 soldiers shooting the shit.   I just kind of stood around and listened.  He was just like you'd imagine.   Smart as hell and funny.  Told some great stories about the other guys.   Fun stuff about being together when they weren't being shot at.   He says that the motorcycle incident with Malarkey was 100% true and that he was confronted by an officer just not Sobel and not before the Market Garden jump.  He didn't come right out and say it but the definite insinuation was that Winters made it all go away.  I was there for around 45 minutes and maybe 15-20 people came up to get a book signed.

The next week Stone Cold Steve Austin was in town and the line left the building and stretched out to the parking lot.   That still pisses me off to this day.   Nothing against Austin but Buck deserved a line like that.

One of my only complaints of the whole mini-series was the Blithe story line.   They could have made that a nobody who was not named in the book.   Albert Blithe didn't die until 1967, not 1948 as the end credit says.  He was on active duty having returned to the Army during the Korean War.

  7. I've long thought that some kind CCC/WPA program would be a great thing for non-violent offenders, especially the young.   Why not put them to work, team some real skills and get the ready for finding a good paying job?    The CCC was instrumental in building out a lot of the National Park infrastructure in the 30's.   It's hard work but why not?  If someone is gicen the choice between jail time and work, wouldn't some people probably choose the work?

I am 56 and have been retired over 2 years since Abbott ordered my firing. It is the best thing that happened to me and I wish I did it 5 years earlier.

I fuck 4 or 5, 18 to 24 year girls a week and know guys who do 10+. I write a book a year and shorter papers in between. I eat good food and have expat friends I hang out with. I have traveled some and hope to travel more, but the Philippines is home now.

I highly recommend that if you are single or divorced  and have at least  $2000 a month for the rest of your life, retire now  and start living it up.

Some guys I know have fucking as their main hobby. Some golf, some play poker or trade stocks. There are MCs everywhere if you like the biker culture. Pick something you enjoy and stop working for someone else.

Yeah, but have you met Elvis?

  9. Along the lines of the hotel lobby...  at malls or shopping areas, the bathrooms at Pottery Barns, Sur La Tables, Williams-Sonomas, etc are usually fairly safe bets.   Not a lot guys in the stores generally do they don't get a ton of traffic.

  10. No pics but I has a major sad....

Going to a friend's house today for a party and volunteered to bring some meat.

Threw two pork butts (about 15 pounds total) on the egg Saturday morning about 6.   Pulled them and put them in the cooler when they got to 200.   Tossed a 10 pound brisket on.   After about 4+ hours, had it at 165 so I foiled it.  When it got to 200, I pulled it and tossed it in the cooler.   While that mellowed out, I started pulling the pork.   Served it all around 7.  Everything was spectacular.

Before anyone starts to wonder on time for all of that, I tend to cook higher than normal.  I have a hard time getting my egg below 300 when doing long cooks so I just go with it.   Because of that, I tend to turbo large cuts of meat but they still end up being pretty damn good.  Did the pork butts at closer 325 for most of the time but they still turned out awesome.

And then the power went out.   We had a wicked thunderstorm go through.   After I got it all packed up and put in the fridge, I debated on whether to go buy a shit ton of ice and put it all in my large cooler.   Then I fell asleep on the couch.   All that time outside wore my ass out and I woke up 8 hours later.   Power was still out.  Shit.  I'm gonna have to pitch it all.
