I will plant my flag in the camp of let’s see what changes Herman makes and how he handles the areas of weakness.  Calling for him to be fired at this point is way over reacting in my opinion.

Over reacting. Guess you haven't been watching this team over the last two months. I know Herman is a fairly young coach, but have you seen any growth with this team this year or specifically with the head coach.

Lets not keep repeating history. About ten years ago we had a chance to move to a generational type coach, but Mack fucked that up. We owe Herman nothing at this time to have another chance to hire another great coach. Just think what Meyer could accomplish here over the next 10 years. We would not only keep the best players in Texas, but across the country. You would be looking at a top 2 type class every year. No, lets just sit on our fucking hands again and watch him go to USC. Also, A&M and LSU are going to pretty tough to deal with over the next several years on the recruiting trail.

I'm fine with a turd like Urban being anywhere but here. The are other people I'd rather have next year, but I'm willing to accept Herman for another year if he brings in real assistants.  A lot can change just by doing that.

So you are good with incompetence running this program. No matter who else he hires. Herman is still the main guy. I have seen enough of shiity performances, undisciplined players, unmotivated performances this year to know he is not the guy we want running this program.

Also, I'm not sure Herman is a better person than Urban, but Meyer is a helluva better coach.

Not soon enough. He should have fired his staff when the gun sounded or it's not good enough for Surly.

Its not the GD coaching staff. Its the Head shit himself that is the issue. Possibly the only salvage by keeping this guy is for CDC to make him bring someone in like Dick Tomey as a AHC. Someone he would actually listen too. If that is even possible.

Yes they will.  Money talks.  They will/can demand and get above market prices and get it.

You're right, but does anyone want to work for Herman at this point. I wouldn't if I knew what I was doing. That means we probably can't hire anyone that is proven or great at there job. Would you trust Herman at this stage. Herman's probably been the one releasing info (leaks) about changes at the end of the year. To keep the heat off of himself. We could live with a crap guy who could coach, but we are stuck with a shit that can't coach. When a guy thinks he knows everything, he is incapable of learning anything else. This is what we have.

We can either shit can his ass now or win the B12 next year. Hopefully both.

Reid Ryan had nothing to do with baseball operations.  His being gone effects nothing.  I don’t know how to convince people of that.

For some real baseball talk, I read a rumor yesterday that the angels will try to sign Cole and Wheeler.

I'm sure they would if they can make it work, but they still will be chasing us. I would be really concerned if they did get them and hire Strom and who ever the freaking A's pitching coach is. Strom is great, but the A's coach is a wizard.

So... this is shaping up to be a rather fantastical nose dive in a recent memory that is full of spectacularly feces ladened nose dives. From losing by a score to LSU and ou to... whatever this is. Par for the course I suppose? At least Herman gave us last year to heap some hope on as opposed to Charlie who manages only do it against the domers. Progress I suppose? The fuck happened between ou and Kansas? Injuries and loss of starters I can buy. But if a system is effective on either side of the ball, truly effective, then there's a semblance of continuity when you lose players to injury or to the league. So what in the fuck am I watching week in and week out? Besides a continuity of regression. That's a coaching problem. It's the coaching problem we've endured for 3 straight regimes now. We gave Herman an extension and Orlando a fat pay raise. What they put on the field this season was a half-assed, half-baked, narcissistic belief that they had it alllll figured out.

Yet I'm not surprised. Dude couldn't beat Maryland in two outings. For all his cockiness, Herman can't rise above this "We're Texas" mentality that has been plaguing us for more than a decade now. In fact, he's basically embodying it at this point. Seems like he expected to roll out his team and they'll win because he's in charge. Team can't tackle, can't execute, can't take a punch in the mouth, can't deal with adversity, can't deal with being down, CANNOT GET UP TO PLAY ANY SINGLE OPPONENT. Baylor was in shambles 3 seasons ago and they just punched a ticket to the ship against ou. Besides the fact that this staff has demonstrated a lack of ability to put our players in situations where they can be successful, which is obvious by how teams have been fucking our defense up and bottling up our offense at an exponential rate every week, the players seem to be more aware of just how unprepared and how ill coached they are. Shirts for this year should just read "Texas Football: Whelp..." with an empty bottle of tequila and a dead hooker on the back. I seriously don't even give a fuck anymore. It's legitimate, textbook apathy at this point. It's kind of hilarious how Strong had a historically horrible run here and then Herman manages to put this season together.

Saddest part is the program is yet again left with its hands in its pockets and only offering up a shoulder shrug and a "maybe next year" muttered under their breath. But hey... Midland played at DKR and bevo blvd is kinda tight so...

You are right on. We should have expected a somewhat rough start around 3-2/4-2 record and show some consistency and improve. Young teams with talent under a halfway decent coach improves over the year. We have gotten worse.

  7. I see a lot of complaining about the assistant coaches, but this team has played unmotivated and coaches have been out-coached (unprepared) the last two weeks. This is on Herman and Herman only. Understand we have had significant injuries and gutted in the secondary, but this was fucking Kansas. We almost lost to fucking 2-4 Kansas again. I really thought Herman was the guy, but he may be to arrogant to get out of his own way.

Hell, Lets bring back Gerg for the rest of the season.

The failed 4th down attempt was an abortion of a play. They were all looking at each other and at the sideline, then they eventually get set with a body language indicating that they had no idea what to do.

Yeah, that has bitten Herman in the ass several times. We hurry up and run straight into eight defenders with five blockers.

Omenihu looks very good.  I'm so happy for the guy.  We all saw this potential and knew his best play was ahead of him.  These NFL teams are idiots for passing on him till the 5th round.

Agreed, I don't know what the hell these guys get paid for. He was dominant in a conference where holding is every play kind of thing. I mean, who doesn't want a guy who's all most 6'6" with over seven foot wing span and can cut 40 in 4.8, plus he improved as a player each year. Lucky for the Texans though.

SECx3 = 6  Barn and gata are probably 11-20 range  aggy still ranked is a fucking joke  1/2 of their conference is complete garbage

B1G = 6  tOSU is probably top 4 right now and wisky looks like top 10   UM probably still overrated at 20

PAC = 5  Cal might be the best team in the conference, they should not have 5 in the top 25

B12= 3  fuck OU.  OSU should be at 20 instead of UM.  Overall conference is better than ACC and PAC

ACC= 2  Its a 1 team conference that utilizes the same scheduling advantage as SECx3.  Worst conference yet again

    G5 = 2  Meh

Dome.  UGA is overrated, surprise.  Dome benefits from that by staying inside the top 10.  5 guaranteed losses ahead of them minimum, they probably drop another game.

This year looks like there's more parity at the top (15ish teams), so naturally the spinners are working overtime to position 2 SECx3 into the playoffs

Not far off if it was to end today in which won't. Cream is Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, OSU & LSU. We could be there, but we need to get significantly healthier and we need better coaching than we had yesterday. We made Okie State look much better than they are. Our Defense played a heck of game.

  11. You guys may want to take a seat before I break the news. According to the Bourbon guys. The 2019 George T Stagg will be at 116 proof. Was expecting somewhere back to Hazmat or close to myself, but hopefully the quality is still there.

Cosmi had zero hype.  He was a 260 lb low 3-star coming out of HS.  Composite had him #155 in Texas and NR (outside the top 1,000 or so) nationally.  I would LOVE to see what this staff could do with a Connor Williams-type elite OT prototype.  Maybe in a year or two after Tyler Johnson has a chance to RS and develop.

The hype he is getting after a few games. In College.

You are right, but his athletic ability was terrific from the limited film I had seen. He looked more like an athletic TE, than a Tackle in HS.

Terrific eval by the Houston Cougar staff.

Connor Williams absolutely would have benefited from returning because of his injury situation, and because the Gilbert offense that he really shined in was very easy on OL. That was known at the time.

Also, I don't follow the Cowboys but my understanding is that they played him at G. That's a pretty good way to minimize his strengths and highlight his weaknesses. He's not an NFL guard.

Lastly, it's a long season, but early returns are that Cosmi is looking better at LT than Connor Williams. Williams never had a game like Cosmi just had against LSU. I agree that Cosmi stands to benefit from returning absent guaranteed first round status but I don't think the situations are comparable.

They are very comparable and I was all on board the Cosmi recruiting take and have been a big fan every since, but I think most should stay for three years. We aren't the only ones that have kids leave early to fall out early in there career. It not only helps the football player, but the person as well.

Cook's the worst data point in the "is JWash bad at coaching" debate. I'm willing to say Boyce might just be bad, and JGreen is making regular youth mistakes, but Cook has clearly gotten worse.

    JWASH to running back coach.

I don't believe this correct, but we are young. Why don't you name these twenty two players.

I have to think Okafor slides into one of the two vacated spots. The staff gave him a lot of first team run in the spring/fall and he's the current sixth man.

I also think Cosmi comes back unless he gets a clear cut first round grade. I don't know this year's OT draft class well enough to say whether or not that's likely. OL, like QBs, tend to better in the NFL when they stay for that fourth year. Obviously he can't say no to surefire first round money, but absent that I think he'll be back because that'd absolutely be in the cards if he came out as a RS JR.

Really tired of our guys leaving early and not living up to the hype. Pretty much the same things we were hearing about Williams a few years ago.

My hope is Watson gets significant action against Rice, and opens the coaches' eyes enough to get a few snaps against OSU.  Wallace will have a field day on us regardless, but the sooner Watson gets trust from the staff, the sooner we can field a corner with the physical tools to one day match up decently with Wallace, Lamb, Wease, Hazelwood etc. ESPECIALLY when it comes to playing the ball in the air.

This has nothing to do with Watson, but is Kobe Boyce actually better than Cook or have I missed something.
