Eagle Rare in Austin for $29. Saw several bottles on the shelf, and I only bought two.

I have a Makita. Love it.
Milwaukee was the standard.

Who was the German prof that always wore western wear? I had him for my freshman engineering physics in 87, but can't remember his name.
I was a freshman engineer in 87 too. I had Gleason, but don't remember the guy you're talking about.

I got curious -- Center lives a few hundred yards away from me. His kids should feed into Anderson HS, is that where they go?
It's a good neighborhood but nothing about their house would indicate they've been bankrolling much in excess of his UT salary (as if that means anything).
His son definitely went to Doss w/ my son. His wife is the college counselor at St. Stephen's, so he may go there.

I’d like for Camp Mabry to stay put too. Same for Laguna Gloria.
Same here. If Laguna ever goes up for sale, I'm sure Westwood CC will be first in line to buy it. They are severely limited on space and impervious cover.

One of the boys goes to LASA w/ my son. I've seen Kelly around the school a couple of times. Her voice is sublime.

I've driven through that area but always stay up north, but it looks nice.
A couple of suggestions:
1. Do make the trip to check out the North shore. The scenery is completely different from the south (and amazing) and the drive is easy
2. Take the boat trip on the west side to see the Napali coast. I can't describe how beautifully prehistoric it looks. My recommendation: book the Captain Andy's catamaran tour. one it a couple of times.
3. ZIpline.
Thanks for the tips! Luckily, I'm going with my wife who used to live on Maui. She's got us booked for a lot of what you suggested.

I'm heading to Kauai on Saturday. My first time on this island. Staying at Timbers Kauai.

No blind test. We just went through the lineup (a few times). We all agreed the WLW was the best of the bunch. I thought the birthday bourbon and 1920 were next, followed by the EHT. W12 was as smooth as ever, but next to those higher octane bourbons wasn't a fair fight
The OF rye was good, but not special. The Old Portrero is a true 100% rye. It was clearly the most unique of the bunch. It had a very distinctive nose and taste. If I were a more seasoned rye drinker, it probably would have been more enjoyable. Very strong grain smell and taste.
We we had a blast.

Here's the selection that we had Saturday night. My friend brought the WLW down from Boise where he won it in a lottery.

I’ve looked in 3-4 shops in west Austin and haven’t found it.
It was not at my Twin Liquors (Lake Austin). In fact, they had no insight into the OF Rye. I found mine at the Austin Wine Merchant on W. 6th street.

Kaizer (or anyone else) - do you know what that piece of equipment on the bottom left of your last image is? I'm watching them working on the building at 5th and Brazos and they have something very similar, but it never seems to get used. Just curious.

I just picked up a bottle of OF Rye and a bottle of Old Portrero Rye. Plan to try both this Saturday.
Edit: $26 in Austin

I've seen Jesus play with flames in a lake of fire that I was standing in
Met the devil in Seattle and spent 9 months inside the lion's den
Met Buddha yet another time and he showed me a glowing light within
But I swear that God is there every time I glare in the eyes of my best friend- 2

You can definitely get to LASA via other middle schools. Plenty do and excel as Brisket's daughter shows. Something to consider is KM has by far the greatest number of kids at LASA. I'm pretty positive that a good majority of kids are from KM. The feedback that I heard from my kids from kids who entered LASA from other middle schools is that at first the volume of work is difficult adjust to. Also a few non-KM parents told us at LASA Parent night that their kids had a tough time cracking the large circle of former KM kids at LASA. That was Freshman year so that's expected at any high school.
Both my kids went KM and LASA route. We would do it again without a second thought. Kids would prob also agree.
But....it will be interesting if Austin continues to have magnet schools. Budget cuts are real. My youngest is a Jr. I hope AISD doesn't do anything stupid until after she graduates.
My son is a sophomore at LASA right now (via Kealing). He loves it. I'm counting on AISD not being able to make any decision before he graduates.
My daughter went Murchison, Anderson and it all went very well.

Has anyone here had Wathens? Picked up a bottle at TW. Wondering what other people think about it?
Yeah. It's just ok to me. It was recommended to me by my guy at Twin. It doesn't stand out to me as memorable.

Had some W.L. Weller special reserve on Saturday night for the 1st time. I see now what all the fuss is about. It was surprisingly better than what I've been drinking over the last couple of years.
