  1. After the way we showed against Maryland, I'm not too sure this is a great matchup for Orlando's defense.  I know we've come a long way, baby, but that Big10 running team pushed us around 2 years in a row.  If Orlando plays more 4-man fronts, or plays more traditional linebackers, then I like our chances better than if he goes w/ our traditional nickel and dime packages.

  2. I'm in a pretty good spot with my senior daughter. She's auto-admitted to Texas, so worst case she'LLP get to stay here. She's applied to Vandy, UVA, and UNC. SHe did the early application for Vandy, so that's where she'll go if admitted. She is getting her IB diploma from Anderson this year. I couldn't be prouder.

There was this recruit back when Mack first got here...."Mike Williams" I think.  Before Hudl or Twitter or maybe even Rivals...anyway...right after signing day that Feb, Mack came to the Longhorn Club luncheon at the Ervin Center with a film of all of the players who had just signed.  I forget now which class it was...it may have been the one with Roy Williams, Sloan and BJ...anyway..this linebacker Williams absolutely stole the show.  Best fucking highschool "highlight reel" of that bunch, or any other bunch I had ever seen.  Left the luncheon awestruck.  I don't think he ever played a down at Texas, and I have never seen another highlight reel like that until this Floyd thing...same kind of deal ....violent.

He ran into some legal issues if I remember correctly....maybe involving a girl?  I believe he was from East Texas somewhere.

I dug a little deeper . . . I believe the patriarch of the family was her husband's paternal grandfather (also "Joe").  He was the one who started the restaurant boom in the family.

There are multiple OLD Austin names in that family tree:  Lung, Dismuke, Freytag.

you should join us, Jimmy.  The whole gang is going to be there.  Nov. 16th.

Now, that brings about the question of one of the biggest hits ever written in Austin . . . but it wasn't written by an Austinite:

    "Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffett

What I didn't know until I just googled it was that it was inspired by a margarita at Lung's Cocina del Sur restaurant on Anderson Lane.  That HAS to be a relative of Joe Lung, longtime Austin restaurateur who passed away just this year.  I worked with his wife for years.  Never put the connection together with "Margaritaville".

I did not know that...I'm having lunch with Diane in a couple of weeks.
