So that would have been pretty dangerous? Could they have fit in the elevator to take them below? And no way to launch planes for ship defense.

I guess in a pinch you could push half of them off the ship and launch the rest. But if these were going through contested areas, they'd have escort ships

Really?  Have you not seen how things have gone in NYC and on the West Coast without police or administration escalating?
I have. But this isn't the thread for those protests. Mentioning them here is irrelevant at best, or intentionally misleading and gaslighting at worst.

Give them an inch they will take a yard.
Ok? Maybe? But you have to let that happen before you can step in to stop it. There was absolutely no evidence to justify the intervention we saw last week. Could it have escalated on it's own? Sure. Would it definitely have? Who knows, but that also doesn't matter. The government can't step in until something actually does happen. And any action must strive to be limited to those not abiding by the law.

Some of you need to open your eyes and realize these aren't a bunch of hippies smoking pot and singing Give Peace a Chance like in your good old days.
Who has said that? I certainly haven't.

I feel like plenty on this board are letting their hate for Trump/Abbot/MAGA cloud their judgment.
Who has said that? I certainly haven't. Feel free to look at my post history to see if I've ever advocated sending in riot police to stop MAGA folks at their various protests. You won't find anything because I understand the First Amendment. As much as I may loathe some of those people or the reasons for their protests, I support their right to hold them unless/until they are no longer peaceful, in which case the government's response should be narrowly tailored to only address the wrongdoers.

Listen to some of the jewish students speak (including those on UT campus) about the rhetoric they are hearing walking around campus.
I have. And I find much of it repulsive. But again, most of it is protected speech.

How about protestors at UCLA not letting Jews on campus.
This is the thread about UT, not UCLA. Stop bringing up irrelevant shit.

The national news was disgusting this morning. Not fox news or newsmax, fucking mainstream national news.
This is the thread about UT, not the national news. Stop bringing up irrelevant shit.

80% of this country is disgusted at what is taking place.
I don't believe that 80% of the country understands the First Amendment, but I support their right to be "disgusted" at whatever you claim them to be disgusted about.

But sure - Hartzell is the problem.
At UT, following his involvement in the unwarranted actions of the police last week, his comments before and after, the continued escalation...yeah, he's part of the problem. He needs to be part of the solution.

lol. I missed that. Y’all are probably correct

  4. Man, I just don’t believe these protests would be where they are right now without the cops escalating it. At this point, I’m really worried it’s going to keep getting worse because the cops just can’t help themselves. Whether it’s them taking the bait of someone antagonistically putting up a tent or not is a bit beside the point. In a proper world, the government should act like the adult and try everything they can to deescalate. But I give that almost no chance of happening.

Hartzell may be the only one who can save this situation, and it will involve him acting like an adult and joining the protesters .. not in their message, but physically going down there, standing with them, stating that he supports their right to peacefully assemble, and ordering the police to stand down. Some will say that’s a risk to his personal safety now, but if he’d done it last week I truly don’t believe we’d be where we are today.

In the end, I guess my point is that Hartzell made this bed, and now he needs to fix it.

I’m even more mystified about the goat story. You decided your farm needed an intact billy and then you got angry when it became a massive stinky asshole that attacked anything that got near it? Why did you get and keep the goat? What kind of farmer are you to be surprised at this?

That was the crazier part to me as well. Having raised thousands of goats in my life, it makes no fucking sense. That describes damn near every billy goat ever. To do it right after shooting your puppy for doing puppy things reeks of her having gotten some sense of pleasure out of killing the dog and wanting to maintain that “high”

As funny as that may be, that’s the kind of thing that, only 10 years ago, would’ve earned you a very serious visit from the feds. Just another sign of how fucked up Trump’s effects on our country are. It’s now widely accepted as appropriate to jokingly request a hit job on a former president (and applauded to do the same for a sitting one by a fuck ton of people).

    Isn't Johnson a grad transfer?

If he is, Blinn is still a Junior College, so there are no graduate classes offered at a junior college for a graduate student to take. Lulz.

It does make you wonder whether Sankey's office considered if undergrad transfers in any sport can "launder" their intra-SEC transfer through any college (Blinn, Kilgore, College of the Redwoods, Alvin Community College, Austin Community College, Houston "Country Club", etc., Lulz) in order to avoid the 1-year sit-out provision.

Dad went to Blinn before Texas, so this theory will give him a laugh.

I thought they were prohibited from playing the following season within the SEC. Surely there’s not such an obvious loophole that you could transfer out of conference for the semester then back into it before the season starts?

Some women like the thrill of sneaking around, having someone "forbidden" and being that 'other woman'. No idea if that story is true but absolutely women out there like that.

Believe it was also the premise of a Seinfeld episode

Harpo what dis snek? About two feet long. I might not have noticed it but I was out walking Bevo (female dog) and she noticed it. I never can get a great picture of sneks I encounter.

For those of you following crime stories in the news I’m still in Atlanta.

This one is really stumping me unless you just suck at judging length. I can't think of anything other than some species of brownsnake.

This hits close to home.  My oldest had a Taylor Swift-themed sleepover birthday party last night.  They wanted to listen to the new album so i downloaded it, put up speakers and a disco ball and light show and decorations and photo booth and all that.  And figured, "It's a full-length album so 75 minutes from now, they'll be danced out and want to get to bed and I can still take everything down and pack it up before I hit the hay."

Fucking thing is 31 tracks.  That's not a record, that's a fucking boxed set.  I tried to stay up once in junior high and listen to Physical Graffiti all the way through and didn't make it and I wasn't even dancing.  What the shit, Taylor?  Put a fucking parental warning label on there, "NOTICE TO PARENTS:  THIS ALBUM CONTAINS EXPLICITLY EXTENSIVE DURATIONS!"  They didn't go to bed until freakin 11:00p.  Good times, good times.

You had a sleepover where all the kids were in bed by 11? That's a big fucking win right there

Actually the precedent is that the West will do this to other nations that step out of line. I think it is totally justified to do to Russia given the situation, but the tricky part is that other nations may suspect that it could eventually happen to them for lesser discretions once this seal is broken. They will adjust how they hold reserves.

Given that this move has been telegraphed and threatened for a while, I’m sure they’re already making those changes anyway so we might as well go for it.

Honestly, it wouldn’t be the worst thing for us if certain countries didn’t have so much invested here. That is at least part of what gives them more power and influence than they should have

Not what I said at all. We can, and should have relations with every country. We can and should not dictate how they run themselves. We have a strong relationship with the extremely autocratic Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, yet we can't have normalized relations with Venezuela. Why not? It's hypocritical and actually undermines our soft power with nations outside the West and fucks with the global economy all at once!

Are you of the belief both of these countries are exactly equal and have the same leverage to push back against policies we try to place upon them? Like, I can scold my child if they’re acting up at the grocery store, but I’m not going to tell Conor McGregor to stop eating grapes in the produce section
