if Ukraine really captures 15-20k troops on that side of the river it will royally fuck with Russia's ability to do anything.

keep in mind, at the start of the war, they only had 200k actual fighters.  They have lost over 100k as casualties, I realize a lot of these guys are now probably called up cannon fodder, but still if they get 20k new prisoners eliminates Russia's ability to counter attack in that area for probably a year or more.

Also, these 20k represent a huge percentage of the trained contract soldiers that Russia has left.

Moldova might end up the biggest winner (relatively speaking) of this whole deal. Restoration of road and rail infrastructure to Ukraine and the rest of the EU and expulsion of Russian troops occupying Transnistria. Good news for one of the poorest countries in Europe.

The only thing that would make this better (besides Hill signing with Texas)  is an NCAA investigation exposing gross recruiting violations.

I would actually rather them be forced to sit and wallow in their own misery. An outside investigation would allow them to reclaim the role of the victim with the NCAA (and of course the dern sips) doing everything they can to hold down the sleeping giant. Right now they have no one to blame but themselves, which is perfect.

  4. Rams must have consulted with PK on how to play pass defense.

In all seriousness, if you play prevent defense up 4 points with 2 minutes left in the game then you deserve to lose.

I can understand that when you are attracting someone, your agreement with them might have some clauses that are in the other parties favor. But fast forward, they are working for you, and you’re giving them an extension and raise. it would be time to remove the unfavorable clauses.

From reading others analysis on the contract, Jimbo has about 80m left on the contract. If they fire him, he’s gets 25% immediately and the rest in annual installments thru 2031. I would think A&M could find a way to scrape together 20m at the end of the season. Of course at that point they don’t have a coach, who will want close to Jimbo money.

They could easily find someone who would take the job for $2M per year. The question is whether their ego would allow them to hire that type of coach.

Okay, memory fades. Who was it, in the last 10 years or so, who went into hurry up when they were trying to run out the clock in a big game? Horns? Strong maybe? Or Cowboys? Garrett, maybe?

Horns vs Texas Tech in Lubbock, 2015 I believe? Literally the last offense in the country you want to give any time to work with and we were throwing the ball and snapping it with > 20 seconds on the play clock up a touchdown with about 2:30 left in the 4th.

We haven’t had a coach who understood clock management since Mack Brown.

aggy sure knows how to drive a hard bargain.

It’s a good thing they bought that law school or else they might have gotten suckered into a really bad deal.

The obsession in almost all fandoms of running a 4 man front and playing man every play cracks me up.

This defense has a lot of problems and deficiencies, a simple scheme adjustment isn’t going to fix it.

This issue with 3 man base fronts is that most/all of them actually are “4 man” fronts that use an OLB with some fancy name like joker or buck as the 4th DL. But instead of a 260lb+ DE setting the edge you’ve got a 225lb LB operating out of a 2 point stance. It’s great if you have someone like Will Anderson in that spot. Not so much with someone like Ovie Oghoufo.

The most important elements of any defense are:

    1. Stopping the run

    2. Pressuring the QB

Most often you’re going to do both better with an actual DL in that 4th spot.

Well I'll be damned. I guess I assumed playing 10 yards off of WRs was zone coverage. Fuck me, I guess they were playing man from 10 yards away.

I’ve been vocal about wanting more man coverage in this thread and others, but I think this is more to the point. We can give such massive cushions at the snap in an all-out effort to prevent the big play. Plan man (or zone) with tighter spacing and force the QB to make more accurate throws. This does introduce a higher risk of big plays downfield but we gave up 329 yards and at least one 30+ yard TD last night with the ultra conservative strategy. It’s the 12 yard completions on 3rd and 10 to a receiver with no one within 5 yards of him that we really need to eliminate.

  10. Roy was the best individual talent. Tall, fast, incredible hands. Stats would have been much better if he played in a different era.

Shipley knew how to be in the right place at the right time and basically never dropped a pass. Same thing can be said about Quan, by the way.

Worthy is on pace to break all of the receiving TD records but doesn’t belong in the discussion for “best” yet, in my opinion.

Other guys who were awesome but had the misfortune of playing with Tim Beck as their offensive coordinator:

    Devin Duvernay

    Lil’Jordan Humphrey

  11. He was the lowest ranked player of his recruiting class and is absolutely balling out. Best LB we’ve had since Malik Jefferson and we’ve got at least one more year with him. This also isn’t his first time creating turnovers in absolutely critical situations. Remember the INT on the goal line against ISU that prevented us from going down 14-3.

We do run a 4 man front and our man to man defense blows. So….

I mean 4 actual defensive linemen. Guys who put their hands on the ground before the snap.

PK’s hybrid DE/LB position (buck?) requires a Joseph Ossai-level talent to work. Unfortunately we don’t have that.

  13. It’s plain as day that PK is the weakest link on this team. Bend don’t break is the dumbest strategy ever, especially in the Big 12.

PLEASE can we just hire a DC who plays a 4 man front and man to man defense. We might be able to find a sharp young coach from a local AISD middle school who has heard of such a thing. Because clearly we can’t find one in the college ranks.
