who the fuck is "auto driller" and why is he negging this

did we just find GRU's new sock?

Explain to me, if you will, why Russia “needs” buffer states for their security? They don’t need shit. Fuck rationalizing and sympathizing why they attack their neighbors. I’m more confused why people pos-repped this post.

  2. Even if the does eventually go through - which still doesn’t seem to be certain - Monahan needs to be fired immediately. Supposedly the PGAT is a player run organization so I certainly hope there is something in their bylaws that would prevent him from profiting off this shit.

  3. Putin expected / hoped that China would pledge to support him militarily in addition to increasing economic and political support. What he fails - or refuses - to see is that it doesn’t really benefit China for Russia to “win”. It wouldn’t be a net negative for them, per se, but ultimately it doesn’t benefit Xi if Putin manages to capture <random Ukrainian city>. What DOES benefit him is for Putin to become more and more dependent on China as their only major trading partner and access to the outside world. The longer Russia is engaged in a fight in Ukraine, the more one-sided the power balance in the relationship becomes. Not to mention that it keeps NATO’s eyes on the west rather than the east. Xi certainly is not going to risk western sanctions and his own military readiness by depleting his stocks of munitions so that Putin can realize his fantasy of rebuilding the USSR.

From a strategic perspective, the best thing russia could do for themselves is retreat from Ukraine NOW, turn over war criminals, and begin the (multi-decade) process of trying to repair ties with Europe. Because China is not going to treat them well.

When is the last time you saw him in a video near a window?

I don't have even remotely a clue what this guy's end game is. He obviously likes attention. That much is clear. He obviously views himself as a truthsayer, a person my Dad liked to say was "willing to put the turd on the table." But how do you make a living doing what this guy is doing? What does the rest of your life look like, however short that may be? Nobody in the west is going to align with the guy because of his past. He has to have made himself persona non grata in Russian ranks. As much control as Russia has over their people and their communications, I'm flabbergasted this guy still has a means to express his view.

My understanding is that he is still very popular in the nationalist and “milblogger” community due to his role in the initial formation of the L/DPR and Crimean annexation. Putin may worry that eliminating him may alienate his biggest source of domestic support. But I agree - I would have assumed that he would have jumped out of a window a long time ago.

Turns out he's wrong.  (Stunned, I know.)  They were under supervision for over a year.  I'm sure he'll post a retraction:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/19/business/economy/fed-silicon-valley-bank.html

WASHINGTON — Silicon Valley Bank’s risky practices were on the Federal Reserve’s radar for more than a year — an awareness that proved insufficient to stop the bank’s demise.

The Fed repeatedly warned the bank that it had problems, according to a person familiar with the matter.

In 2021, a Fed review of the growing bank found serious weaknesses in how it was handling key risks. Supervisors at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, which oversaw Silicon Valley Bank, issued six citations. Those warnings, known as “matters requiring attention” and “matters requiring immediate attention,” flagged that the firm was doing a bad job of ensuring that it would have enough easy-to-tap cash on hand in the event of trouble.

But the bank did not fix its vulnerabilities. By July 2022, Silicon Valley Bank was in a full supervisory review — getting a more careful look — and was ultimately rated deficient for governance and controls. It was placed under a set of restrictions that prevented it from growing through acquisitions. Last autumn, staff members from the San Francisco Fed met with senior leaders at the firm to talk about their ability to gain access to enough cash in a crisis and possible exposure to losses as interest rates rose.

I think we all know why nothing was done despite adequate warning signs. The executives and large account holders at SVB ran in the right social circles and possibly/probably donated to the right politicians. Regulators never fuck with “their people”. It’s pretty reliable that the only ones who are consistently under scrutiny are the poors.
