For all your Surlyettes (Surlyians?) coming up for Austin today and tomorrow.
I-35 just south of Downtown Dallas was supposed to be completely closed in both directions beginning at 9:00 p.m. tonight.
That has changed.
It is not being closed until 9:00 p.m. on SATURDAY night, December 1.
This Public Service Announcement was brought to you by The Morgan Foundation and Beat the Hell out of The Red Polyester Wearin' Hillbillies from Oklahoma.

I have come around on this bill and with a FEW, small changes which could be added as a rider on the bill, the 86th Legislature of the Great State of Texas should debate and then, pass a revised bill.
First since our beloved University of Texas is the dominant school by every, conceivable relevant measure, the game needs to be played in Austin on a pro-rata percentage basis equal to the won- loss record between the two schools.
In addition, any and all revenue generated by the game is to be split on a pro rata basis on the same percentage as the won - loss record between the schools.
The record is currently 76 - 37 - 5. That means, Texas has won 64% of the time.
With regard to the site of the game, that means we would play in Austin 2 out of every 3 years.
Texas would also be paid 64% of the revenue generated by the game.
These percentages would of course change over the years and aggy would have the opportunity to even both the situs of the game and the revenue simply by winning. At the same time, since aggy is so proud of their history and "turditions," this formula would recognize and honor the past accomplishments and history of both universities.
Oh and of course, all games are to be televised on the Longhorn Network.
With those slight, relatively minor changes, I could get behind this bill.
Otherwise ... "Fuck 'em and Feed 'em Fish Heads."

I graduated the summer of '98 but my gf/now wife was still in school so we went to the game. What an incredible run and the entire stadium exploded - maybe the loudest single moment I've ever experienced in DKR. Just an amazing play to break the record. Interestingly, I lived a couple houses down from the guy who hugs Tony Dorsett in the video after the touchdown.
I have always wondered who is that goofy looking white boy who hugged Dorsett. Any info?

I told this story on the late, may as well be deceased Shag.
My then wife and I had season tickets with her parents. Like many UT fans in Dallas, we were on a Southwest Airline flight which was supposed to get into Austin about 90 minutes before the game started. The waiting area was packed with people dressed in burnt orange and ... Tony Dorsett. Dorsett was flying down to see his record broken. Then, Southwest announces the plane has had a mechanical difficulty and it would be at least 2 hours before we left.
Dorsett and (presumably his handler), walk up to the gate agent, engage in a very quiet conversation. Next thing we know, that gate agent is on the phone and a Southwest employee is running down the hallway. About 10 minutes later, we hear an announcement, "We have a plane about to go into maintenance folks that we can use for this flight. It should be rolling up to the gate in less than 10 minutes."
Substitute plane pulls up, people are running on the plane. It was the fastest I have ever seen a Southwest flight get loaded. We are wheels up.
We land in Austin (Bergstrom was not yet open to the public so we landed at Mueller) about 20 minutes before the game is supposed to start. I see Dorsett hopping into the back of an Austin PD car with his handler.
In-laws pick us up, we park at our usual place at University Methodist Church on the Drag and arrive at DKR literally seconds before the kick off.
But for Dorsett being on that flight, we would have missed Ricky's run. Hell of a game.

Stop. The ONLY reason we beat ou in 2015 was because we had Jay Norvell on staff. For the previous 8 years, Norvell had been the wide receivers coach at ou. He was let go in March 2015 and we picked him up as our wide receivers coach. After Watson, again, shit the bed against Notre Dame, Watson was relieved of play calling duties and this was assigned to Norvell. He knew ou inside and out ... knew their personnel, knew their tendencies and took advantage of those tendencies. Was it the Charlie Not-At-All who had anything to do with play calling or designing the offensive game plan? Hell no. Charlie Not-At-All assumed his role as a potted plant and Norvell was responsible for the victory.
Charlie Not-At-All assembled the worst three year record in Texas football history.
Charlie Not-At-All oversaw the worst offensive production in a bowl game in Texas football history.
Charlie Not-At-All Oversaw the two worst statistical defenses in Texas football history.
Charlie Not-At-All had a revolving door of assistant coaches their entire tenure in Austin.
Charlie Not-At-All had a record of 2 wins and 17 losses when we were trailing at half time.
Charlie Not-At-All had more shut out losses in three years than Mack had his entire career at Texas.
Charlie Not-At-All suffered the first shut out by an unranked team for the first time in 53 years.
Charlie Not-Strong-At-All was the very definition of incompetent. At Louisville, in 4 years, his team played a total of 2 ranked teams.
Special teams? Under Charlie Not-At-All, our special teams were a joke. Under Mack Brown, between 2000 - 2010, we were second in the nation in terms of most punts blocked, most field goals blocked and fewest yards allowed on kick-off returns. Charlie No-At-All never understood the importance of special teams and he has taken that incompetence to USF. .
His recruiting at USF is being regarded as underwhelming, they are on a 5 game losing streak and he is being exposed for what he is ... grossly incompetent on a felonious basis.
To say that he left the program in worst shape than Mack is ridiculous. Charlie Not-At-All's losing persona had infiltrated the locker room and turned us not just into a national after thought, but a national don't even think about at all. OH MY GOD.. we won a game. Let's body surf the coach because we are shocked we won!
Tom Herman is doing a masterful job of exorcising the stench Charlie Not-At-All left in our historically proud program.
He should have been shitcanned the moment he "bedazzled" the most recognizable logo in college athletics.
Thank God the nightmare is over.

That's a dumb take. All coaches look awful with ineptitude at QB. We did last year. Strong's faults aren't any different than any coach. We will probably finish 8-4 after getting really solid QB play simply based on the fact that we can't consistently get stops. The fact that you guys think that USF had ALL this talent is laughable. They simply had an uber athlete at QB that hid all their deficiencies. Flowers covered up a lot of offensive issues with his legs. Had you guys been watching them pre Strong you would've seen that. Now they are tasked with retooling.
Strong's faults aren't any different? Really? So, all college football coaches are laughingly incompetent? All coaches in a 3 year time frame would have assembled the worst record in Texas football history? All Texas coaches would have overseen the worst offensive production in a bowl game in Texas football history? All coaches would have overseen the two worst statistical defenses in Texas football history? All coaches would have had a revolving door of assistant coaches their entire tenure in Austin? All coaches would have had Texas record, when trailing at halftime, of 2 wins and 17 losses? All coaches would have had more shut out losses in three years than Mack had his entire career at Texas? All coaches would have been shut out by an unranked team for the first time in 53 years?
Charlie Not-Strong-At-All was the very definition of incompetent. At Louisville, in 4 years, his team played a total of 2 ranked teams.
Don't like your quarterback? Fine! Go bring one on campus! Oh by the way, under Charlie Not-Strong-At-All good luck with that because his idiot offensive coordinator installed a dead West Coast offense when the majority of Texas high schools are playing a completely different offense.
Special teams? Under Charlie Not-At-All, our special teams were a joke. Under Mack Brown, between 2000 - 2010, we were second in the nation in terms of most punts blocked, most field goals blocked and yards allowed on kick-off returns. Charlie No-At-All never understood the importance of special teams and he has taken that incompetence to USF. (They lost to UCF in part because of a late returned kick off).
His recruiting at USF is being regarded as underwhelming, they are on a 5 game losing streak and he is being exposed for what he is ... grossly incompetent on a felonious basis.
It is a miracle we have achieved as much as we have this year with the shocking lack of depth and the stench of losing that buffoon inflicted upon us.
Thank God he is USF's problem now ... No take backs!

Technically, there is no King of England right now. And when there is a male overlord, I believe he is the Monarch of the Kingdom of Great Britain and the United Kingdom.

We used to play the hell out of The Yellow Rose of Texas as well when I was in LHB (84-88). Personally I'd love to bring back Victory, old school like Grandioso, have the whole stadium spelling out Victory, would be cool.
Wasn't Victory played after every touchdown in the "Whatever It Takes" year of 1990? It was greatness.
Also.. don't forget The March of the Longhorns

Sweet Blue Amputated Mohammad on a tricycle. You are comparing apples to spam. You must have gone to Tech or some such damn place.
Durant did not quit on the team while games or tourney games were being played. Now, let's suppose Durant had left the Longhorns before the NCAA tournament was played to focus on the draft then, yes... there could be similarities.
Those who sweat with their team from summer workouts through the last game of the regular season, those who toil and are part of a team and the team relies upon them ... only to leave because they are afraid they may get hurt in the bowl game, or exposed, epitomize the "All about me" players who place themselves over anything and everything. And if I were a general manager of an NFL team, I sure as shit would take that into account as a huge negative against the player ... that he places his own perceived "needs" over the needs of the team. Will they ever truly bust their ass and give 100% on every play.. or hold back because they may get hurt? They already turned their back on their college team, what makes me believe they wouldn't do that same thing in the NFL?
