How is it failing? Sanctions are working?
A couple interesting sections.
"American and Western officials say there is some good news. Russian production is still not keeping pace with how fast the military is burning through ammunition and wearing out equipment. For example, even though Russia is on pace to produce two million rounds of ammunition a year, it fired about 10 million rounds of artillery last year. That has led Moscow to desperately search for alternative sources to increase its stocks, most recently by trying to secure a weapons deal with North Korea, U.S. and Western officials said."
But here's the kicker from earlier in the piece.
"Western officials also believe Russia is on track to manufacture two million artillery shells a year — double the amount Western intelligence services had initially estimated Russia could manufacture before the war.
As a result of the push, Russia is now producing more ammunition than the United States and Europe. Overall, Kusti Salm, a senior Estonian defense ministry official, estimated that Russia’s current ammunition production is seven times greater than that of the West."
Seven times. wtf
It seems pretty clear that the West has to escalate involvement significantly otherwise Ukraine is fucked as it stands now.
Perhaps should have negotiated as Milley suggested when Russia was on back foot.
I guess the silver lining is they can't build artillery or replace barrels often enough to shoot all of those shells. Seven times the number but less than seven times as accurate.

I've got a Ruger Ranch in 300blk, but I've thought about getting it in 450 BM. Already have a big bore can for it.
Do it. It’s a thumper with over 1000 lbs. of kinetic energy at 100 yards. We keep hoping TPWD will open an early deer season for black powder and straight sided cartridges.

CHIEF Jr. bought a 10 inch can for his .450BM and 400gr. subsonic ammo to shoot hogs out of the stand with this year. It sounds like a big pellet gun:

It's time to give the Russians the white phosphorus treatment on their trenches. It isn't a war crime, as long as they don't use it against civilians. Set the fuses long on the artillery to where the shell doesn't detonate but a couple of hundred feet above their heads. The Russians used it against the civilian population of Bakmut:
Burn the fuckers out into the open.

Just not sure what they'd eat? I could see them passing through looking for water, but a sounder would struggle out there to keep up their numbers.
They will eat the tunas off of the prickly pears for sure. When we hunted in Aspermont, we leased up 15,000 acres of pasture, not an oak tree on the whole place. We were overrun with hogs, you would probably see 75 a day, each. It was all prickly pear and mesquite, so there is something they are eating, just not sure what it is.

Talking deer. For some reason we have zero pigs. They're in the northern part of Coleman county where there are live oaks, but our area is all mesquite and pear patches.
Just remember, there are two kinds of people in this World, those with hogs, and those that will eventually have hogs.

Depends, Japanese or German edge? They have different bevels.

We always have a round chambered in the bolt guns, but the firing pin is not activated. I don't trust safeties. It is this way in the stand as well. You have to raise and lower the bolt before the gun will fire, which takes conscious effort.

Anyone got any of Margarita and ol' Victor Solovyev's hot takes lately? Haven't seen any in a while, and I don't Twitter.

Back on the subject of feeders. Has anyone used a 70/30 percent blend of corn to soybeans? I used a couple of sacks in my road feeder last year, and the deer ate it up. Had a buddy try it in his feeder, in the feed pen, and they kind of ignored it. Anyone had any luck on getting them to eat it?

Yes, I remember they revived him on the field. I think it might have even been his parents, both Drs if I remember correctly, that did it with an AED machine.
Yes, his mother is Barbara Bergen, I forgot his dad's name. I worked for her practice when I first moved to Austin in 1992. I knew Matt when he was in elementary school. Great family. They bought a little farm out by Muldoon that they would invite us to.

Just curious - any history with that deer?
I have become a big believer in aging via multiple years of pictures. Obviously, every place is different but if I have a deer blow-up one year, then he’s probably getting a pass. For example, I couldn’t place this deer last year so he got a walk and I’m hoping to see his pictures in this years batch.
I agree with everyone else on the aging based on that pic - he’s at least 4.5.
Everybody started going back through last year's game cam pics, and we found him on another guy's game cam about three-quarters of a mile away.
The spring rains sure were good to him. Looks 3 1/2 last year, gonna say 4 1/2 this year. We are supposed to shoot 5 1/2 and up. I'm just not sure we are going to get the same kind of spring rains in 2024 to make him any bigger. My vote is to let him get shot this year with no repercussions.

Ranger belts run about $132 a pop. I would assume maybe a little less on a Mule with a smaller belt. It takes longer to get the dust cover off on a Ranger then to replace the drive belt.

This stupid fuck running his mouth may have just saved our ass now the media is going to be watching Big 12 officiating with Texas and OU. In perfect Big 12 fashion in an attempt to flex their little dicks they may have royally fuck themselves as they now have brought into question the validity of Big 12 competition.
The fucker needs a shot across the bow. Blatant officiating bias, that diminishes ticket, apparel sales, and sabotage of an opportunity at higher seeded bowls with bigger payouts, and Texas/OU sue for the exit fees to be nullified. It ain't chump change. I just don't know where we could find a good law team made up of distinguished alumni that graduated from an exceptional law school to make that threat, and follow through with it.
Would have to be made by the schools and ADs though.

Mrs. CHIEF, CHIEF Jr., his gf, and I are sitting around the living room the other night bullshitting, and Mrs. CHIEF gives me the "you need to quit interrupting me, its rude" line. The only time I interrupt is to tell her to "please, get to the point." Which may be a time or two in an hour long socializing conversation . CHIEF Jr. proceeds to rattle off about a dozen, "MOM, let dad finish what he was saying, you're being rude!" in a little less than five minutes. After the last one, he turned and gave me a wink. I don't think I have been more satisfied in my life. It was like the end of round three in the sack, when we were newlyweds.

When my Dad passed in 2019, he had two brand new 800 lb. Capsule Feeders https://www.feradyne.com/product/800lb-capsule-feeder/ in his shop. I thought, "what idoit would pay a grand for a damn corn feeder." So they sat in my shop until 2021 when I got on my current lease. Since they were "free" I decided to use one as my personal feeder. I'll never use anything else. We feed corn from about the first of September and shut off the corn during Spring Break. So about 200 days, more or less. You can throw up to 4 lbs. per day, and only have to fill it from the ground once per year. They aren't cheap, but they are coon (its an auger system, coons aren't strong enough to spin it through the cage), and hog proof. It has been maintenance free with cleaned corn, still runs the original spinner motor, timer, and battery for three years.

No one has seen this guy. But it isn't like my situation last year, where I could have shot that buck legally. Its pre-season. so he is fair game. No dibs. BUT, Ii sure hope this buddy gets him. He almost cried when CHIEF Jr. shot that big Aoudad. The guy is due. Never shot a monster anything.

I'm gonna say he is 4 1/2 at a minimum. Anyone on the ranch, and in our group would shoot him. They might not like it, but anyone would understand. Personally, I think he is old enough. My buck from last year should probably go 170+ this year. We have multiple bucks that will go over 150" on every one of our game cameras. The guy, in our pasture the farthest NW, has a monster mule deer buck on his camera.

Buddy on our lease had this guy show up:
We think he may go over 190". He said he is shooting him no matter if he is 2 1/2 or 5 1/2. He said we can get a look at him in his truck bed as he hooks up his camper, and removes his blind and feeder.

If y'all want to follow a cool story. My best friend is part of a crew sailing a 51ft sailboat around the globe for the Ocean Globe race, on an all veteran crew, to raise awareness for PTSD and suicide. They are sponsored by sig sauer and are competing against absolute professionals as they are....a skeleton crew.
https://skeletoncrewadventures.org/tracking here is the link. They started in Galveston and are about to land in Southampton where the race begins. I will be going to see him off next week.
This is relevant as I tracked him every day and was terrified of him hitting a hurricane on the way to England. He still have to make it around the cape this summer so it could happen.
Tell him to be sure to have his handkerchief and his summer frock. Oh, and don't listen to "Southampton Dock" by Pink Floyd, kinda depressing and very PTSDy.
