  1. Well, CHIEF Jr. is living at home ratholing money after college. One of our friends, the one that would be giving him a construction loan to build his house, said he would need to buy something before any lender would ever give him a loan (he has a high credit score but almost no credit history). So what does the little fucker come home with? A TRX.

That is his old beater truck behind it that he decided to keep since they wouldn't give him much for it.

Figured out my mistake. I was looking at The Judge, not the Monarch. Sorry to send you down a rabbit hole and thanks for the feedback!

No problem at all. They are a good feeder to supplement your primary feeder during season. 300 lbs. will last the whole season and run out in January.

Just realized these are made in Austin. Do they sell factory seconds, by chance? I could care less about paint jobs. Also - I'm curious about maintenance. Is the system easily accessible (or do you have to take apart the whole plate system on the bottom to do any work? How is yours working out for you now? Did you end up with a 500? Thanks in advance! We primarily use All Seasons, but considering the Monarch for a new deployment.

They are not made in Austin. They are made between Alvarado and Midlothian, about 30 minutes from me. This is always our secondary unfenced feeder: https://deerfeeder.com/collections/feeders/products/the-barrel-stubby . $200 and you supply the barrel. You will need to attach it to "t" posts or drill through the skids and attach anchors. Cows, hogs, and Auodad will turn it over. But it is a deal for the money.

Mike Elko is vanilla. He’s who Texas A&M is. Even their “splash hire, big name, sitting national championship head coach” was vanilla. Nobody really cares beyond how much they force the rest of the world to pay attention to their never-ending train wreck.

Their culture is the problem. They’re programmed to embarrass themselves.

If they would embrace their role as "spoilers" instead of "contenders", their mental health and their level of embarrassing themselves would be non-existent. They are the same tier with the Mississippi schools, South Carolina, Kentucky, etc. Their culture will always mean that. They will never be an Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas, or Florida.

  5. My parents were married for 52 years. Mom is quite a bit younger than Dad. He passed in 2019. She was only 71. The death of your spouse is really traumatic. Especially if you are over 90. I always admired Jimmy Carter. He is a wonderful person, he presided over some really tough times in American history. I could certainly see him dying of a broken heart. He will be deeply missed.

I am not in the education field,  but did he contact the Texas Classroom Teachers Assoc  as the first step ?

Is he a new hire under a probation period ?    I believe @Knoxtnhorn is in the education field.   Though I think he is in the Metroplex,  perhaps he can offer advice.

Yes he is a new hire. He had to restrain the child, the child was not hurt. However, SAISD has not provided him restraint training. The Principle, or Superintendent basically said "that's on us", if anything comes of it. He said he had to do it to prevent serious injury to the student that was being attacked.

  7. I'm lucky that my Second Trinity well is about two hundred feet from the Brazos river. It is 579 feet deep and has over 150 feet of water in it. I've always had it in the back of my mind that it could be a gold mine one day. It's good enough to bottle straight out of the pump.

I remember him from Apollo 8 and CEO of Eastern Airlines.

He is not even 50 years old in this Eastern ad. When I saw him he looked easily 75 or older. Imagine looking like an advanced senior citizen for more than half your life.

    Apollo 8 Commander Frank Borman - 95

Frank Borman, Who Led Historic Flight Around the Moon in 1968, Dies at Age 95 - WSJ

When I was in college, Frank Borman bought a 1964 Piper Twin Comanche. We went and picked it up, brought it to our FBO and annualed it and put a bunch of speed mods on it. We then flew it to Las Cruces, NM, where he lived. I was expecting to see this young guy that had been an astronaut. He was only a little over 60  at the time, but already looked much older than what I expected, and acted much older. He was interesting to talk to, but I thought he would have died a while back. After meeting him, its hard to believe he lasted this long.

Today I learned over a dozen NATO nations train their fighter pilots here in Texas, and have been for over 40 years.

Those bastards run the canyons on or deer lease everyday, all day during sunny weather. They are low enough and close enough that you can see the markings on the T-38s. The deer are used to it though. They seldom look up, but it can be loud as fuck. We sometimes shoot the bird at them as they fly by and you won't see them for a few hours. I guess they don't realize the blind is occupied.

  11. I've always loved Billy Ocean for some reason. I remember dancing to "Suddenly" with Mrs. CHIEF, in our room naked, on our honeymoon.

Here is Billy singing it, and this video is 14 YEARS OLD:

He is on my bucket list to see, he occasionally hits the US with a couple of shows, but plays more locally around London. It will probably involve a trip across the pond.

  12. You might see if the local monument engraver is also able to polish it.
my father is buried in a small rural cemetery. My g-g grand father’s tombstone is broken off and is laying on top of his gravesite. My mother and I are going to purchase a new one. His fathers head stone, right behind my father’s grave is leaning a moderate amount. We are going to re-level it.
none of these graves are important to his family, but their upkeep is really important to my mother, so that makes it important to me.

When you make a joke about something over Macho Grande or get into a discussion about Hall and Oates and a lot of people understand it and want to discuss it,,,,

I'm old enough to remember when Hall and Oates came out. Being a country kid, I actually thought their name was "Haulin' Oats". I was puzzled that they didn't really sound country.

  14. I have a step-uncle that has moved back from Hong Kong, where he taught school for 20 years. He went to work in SAISD. He had to restrain a child that was throwing stuff, trying to injure other students. He was put on standard administrative leave. The kid he restrained is completely over it. He doesn't think anything will become of it, but would like a good attorney referral if anyone knows someone. You can put any referrals here or DM me. Thanks.

  15. I've always been a car guy. I remember lusting after my friend's 69' Camaro and his Dad's 57' Bel Air two-door hardtop. That would be like me lusting for a 98' Viper or a a 2009' Vette now. Both of those older cars were considered "classics" at the time.

My dad was my age in 2000, with a two year old grandchild that I didn't even have until I was 30.

I always say life is like a roll of toilet paper, it rolls a lot faster as you get to the end of the roll.

  16. Good post Brisket. I will reiterate that when I tell someone that I am praying for them, many times I am not praying for a devine miracle, although I would happily accept it. I am praying that God give them peace and comfort to be able to accept their fate, or to give them strength for the ongoing battle to in their fight against a disease, grief of loss, or their bad circumstances.

It is my belief that I have eternal life through God's son, Jesus Christ. Sent to this world to give us that hope through faith. I will not have an eternal life starting after death. I am living my eternal life presently. In my carbon based life, presently, I am merely a caterpillar waiting to emerge from my cocoon. I am also a very live and let live type of person. I have a strong belief in separation of Church and State. I left my last prayer group over it getting too political. The bible says that the World will become more immoral and depraved, the evangelical movement to stop it from happening, as they see fit is just tilting at windmills.

  17. I pray. I don't really pray much for God to intercede in matters on my behalf (except for safety of family and friends, selfishly). But for understanding of the things in this world that I have no control over.

Also, for those that are so condescending about anyone that is a believer is ignorant of science. I am always trying to punch holes in my faith, I have found that it accomplishes just the opposite, it makes my faith stronger. I love watching debates, two of the really great scientific believers are Frank Turek, and John Lennox, an Oxford mathematician. For those of you that have made up your mind that there is no God, fair enough. But for those of you that are on the fence, these scientists make some compelling arguments. I invite you down the rabbit hole. Please remember the headers are from a biased commentator, I usually fast forward through his narrative.
