God dammit, I thought the bump was going to be that they caught fucking covid and that we'd have a second straight game "postponed." Should be a good matchup.

There's still time...but we've been pretty on top of it.

Yeah, really looking forward to the game.  I presume it won't be 40 degrees in Stillwater like it will be Ames...

It fucking snowed this morning in Sioux City.

I would like to see the breakdown of the survey.  360 respondents but only 20% Presidents, 30% ADs and 21 commissioners makes the 61% of the P5 favor breaking away seem a little suspect.  Is the 61% based only on the 65 p5 schools commissioners, presidents, and ADs?  If so, is it based on the 20%, 30%, 66% average?

To me 100% p5 commissioners would vote yes.  90% of P5 ADs would vote yes. 75% of Presidents (probably much higher seeing most mutlischool collaborations extend way outside conference members anymore) would vote yes.

Agreed, but I wonder if the fact that there are non P5 AAU institutions would be consequential to any Presidents( I presume probably not...)?  But you're right, in my limited knowledge of collaboration happening at ISU when I was there it was with KSU, Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin...so regional rather than conference affiliated.

  3. One of my favorite records is Thurston Moore's Psychic Hearts.  It's outstanding from start to finish.  IMO it would land in the top half of SY albums.  It was released in Spring of '95 and Sonic Youth released Washing Machine that Fall so I think a lot of focus went to WM (deservedly so).  Maybe not so much ignored but overshadowed by WM.  It was reissued in '06 and has subsequently gotten critical praise.  If you dig Sonic Youth you will love this album.

I  root for ISU. Always have. Tech also bc many family members and friends went there. Except when they play us. There is a lot of value in having a good ISU. I saw some flashes last night of what’s possible but I know y’all don’t dare to dream beyond next week. It would be cool though if y’all became a force in the conference. Jmo. There have been plenty of coordinators with talent and skill that have gone through Iowa State. I know it’s a challenge but I do think Campbell is a great hire for Iowa State. It’s hard to judge the last two three years because Purdy has been in and out of the lineup.
Who will be the next QB?

The presumptive successor to Purdy is Hunter Dekkers.  Big Dutch kid from NW Iowa.  Holds the Iowa state records for passing yards and TDs.

I like Matt Campbell a lot!

I think he is exactly the right coach for Iowa State.

Iowa State’s AD said “Hey we have money but we want someone who wants to coach here. They have to want to be here.”

I think Matt does. He is a good coach. It takes time to really build a team. He cares about being there. Purdy has been in and out with mono and injuries so the last two-three years are hard to judge as a whole. I am happy for Iowa State. I hope he stays and develops that program better than Gundy has OSU. Jmo.

Campbell gets it. I hope they appreciate him. And he stays.

We love Matt, and will keep him for as long as we can.

And he does get it...but by "it" I mean coaching at ISU.

UT and ISU couldn't be more different with regard to football.  We have no expectations, your AD budget dwarfs ours, your state is the center of the high school football universe, your BMDs make ours look like the small time tight ass farmers they are.

Matt has nothing to do with UT except for making ISU into an opponent that's not a laughable waste of time.  Surely Longhorns fans can see the value of ISU being good.

All the criticism of Campbell and ISU in here are 100% valid but so is the OPs point.

    3 points is solidly?

Yes.  TCU never led and didn't really seem like they could.  And they scored a TD at :00.

Regardless, Campbell obviously sucks. He lost to LA, has never beaten Iowa and also lost to Northern Iowa once.  Fucking loser.

I like ISU and was disappointed in the loss. Sorry, resident 'Clone fans.

Thank you for your kind words.

We've got some really troubling problems on the OL and in special teams.  Boy am I glad I turned it off and finished binging Cobra Kai.

Yeah, to me, Pink Floyd's run of sequential greatness starts with "Echoes" on the 2nd side of Meddle and ends with "Goodbye Blue Sky" on The Wall.

AHM, Meddle and The Wall are great albums and their highs are exceptionally high, but there is some filler that doesn't contribute much.  I'm looking at you Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast, San Tropez, Seamus, Empty Spaces and others.  And then the wheels fall off with The Final Cut.

I guess I would say DSOTM, WYWH and Animals are all just tightly focused towards their concepts with not an ounce of fat on them.  Take any one song out of those, or replace it with another song, and I don't think you have as good an overall album.

What's funny is that Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast is actually what bounced AHM from the list for me too.  I love San Tropez and Seamus (especially with Seamus on Live at Pompeii).  Imho, There's more weak tracks on The Wall than strong ones.  But I might have a better opinion of it if I'd been old enough to see it live and in it's original stage form...

I’d say Pink Floyd had a three album run with Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and Animals.  I still listen to those albums front to back all the time.

Yeah, all three are loops that end as they begin and just brilliantly crafted as albums .  I HAVE to listen to Animals in it's entirety.

To be honest with regard to PF: Beginning after Atom Heart Mother and before The Wall I like every single song, that includes the Obscured By Clouds soundtrack. Everything. I named one record but really could've named Meddle, OBC, Dark Side, WYWH, and Animals.

It definitely would have complicated the rise of Hayden Fry.

When ISU hired Donnie Duncan, John Cooper wanted the job.  He's an ISU alum.  After we fired Donnie Duncan, Bill Snyder wanted the job.  We hired Jim Criner.

We've been fucked over by the refs/universe many times, but we're pretty good at fucking ourselves too.

We picked the absolute worst time to hire Donnie Duncan.  At the exact same moment (in 1979) that Iowa began their ascendancy with Hayden, we nose-dived. But even if Earle had stuck around he would've demanded shovels in the ground constantly (as Fry did at Iowa) and more money than he was likely to get out of Bob Parks (ISU's president at the time).  So who knows...

Agreed.  Oddly enough, ISU won at Folsom the next year 20-16.

I can only remember ISU winning in Folsom once in my fanhood:  2000.  2010 (our final trip there) should have been an ISU win giving us bowl eligibility.  We were 5-5 coming off a heart breaking 2 OT loss to Nebraska.  You guys had just fired Hawkins.  Our starting QB blew his knee out in the first quarter, and it was like a boulder (pun firmly intended) rolling down hill from there.

Two words, Earle Bruce. The Earle Bruce Cyclones beat UNL in Ames in '76 and then went TO Lincoln in '77 and beat Nebraska in their revenge game, 24-21.
