I loved them. I think if we had won that game, they would have been back more often.
Which is why they need to bring the '76 Earle Bruce's back, we actually won in those.

The latter.
If you ever followed a game thread involving ISU, you'll know that I wallow in that medium. I know the reverse jinx when I see it.
It's true. Al is the George Braque or Joan Miro of reverse jinx. A genius of a medium in which we revel.

I think all of Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, and Baylor will be on upset watch in the Big 12 too so I'm sure at least one of those games will turn into a good one.
100% true for ISU. The Cajuns are no joke, went 11-3 (Miss St., App St. twice). This one is damn scary knowing how slow to get up to speed we are in a normal year. This game replaces Iowa on the schedule and honestly I'd rather play them. We'd have been laser focused on beating Iowa since Campbell has failed to do so, so far.
Upset watch indeed.

That is a really bad look for Iowa.
Agreed. I'm not gonna blast Ferentz because I know he gave $1MM to the University Hospital. But you'd think the Iowa AD could come up with some plan to save those sports...

4-8, 5-7. So far Frost has proven that he's the new Charlie Strong of Nebraska.
Ha ha, fair enough. It's no surprise Frost wants to play this season badly. It's a critical time for his rebuild.

We should have just converted a 23 yard field goal with :30 seconds left in regulation and beaten a 4-7 Mizzou squad at home and won the division outright.
OU would have fucking run a train on us, but ISU playing for the Big 12 football crown at Arrowhead would have been left KC a cratered mess.
The closest I've come to crying as an adult man. Culbertson pushing it right will never leave my memory. Motherfucker had made 21 of 22 attempts after taking over for Tony Yelk and missed a (I think it was actually) 24 yarder. CCG at Arrowhead...FUCK! FAAAAAACK!!!

Iowa kids from Chicago are definitely the worst.
I was talking at ISU. With the exception of one really cool guy, everyone I knew in Ames from Minneapolis sucked. With the exception of one staggeringly incredible douche, everyone I knew in Ames from Chicago was solid.
Also, I’m to read that as you’re dating your ex wife?
Lolz...gf in college first, ex wife later. Hawkroach always.

I fucking hated the kids from Minneapolis. Probably more annoying than the Chicago kids, and waaaaay more annoying than any KC kids.
My gf (ex-wife) went to UI so I spent some time with Western Suburb Hawks in IC...holy fucking douchebags...

Every time I drive through Iowa I'm like "man, I can't believe there are two large universities here"
Roughly half of the undergraduate students at the University of Iowa are from the state of Illinois and iirc a majority of them are from the Western Suburbs of Chicago. Very many kids come down from Minneapolis and up from Kansas City to ISU.
UI and ISU (both AAU institutions) are really good values for the educations we provide. Excellent engineering / agronomy / vet med / design at ISU and excellent writing / business / law / medicine at UI. Personally, I'd only consider Illinois a stronger architecture programs of any of our neighbors and ISU the strongest in the Big 12 besides UT.

Best move possible, imo. Contrived nicknames are dumb, and anything chosen now would seem contrived. If a nickname develops over time they can add it.

Agreed. They can use some DC monument imagery (a la the Caps) for a logo, or maybe the outline of the district itself...they'll want something to put on merch. But they don't need an official nickname.
Any nickname they choose now will seem trite. Even Red Wolves, which I'm told are indigenous to the area would seem kinda lame right now.

I've been saying this for a while. There's no name out there they could use that will satisfy everyone and they've been getting heat for years to change it. They should just not have one, go with Washington FC or DCFC.
Or call themselves the Federals. The other teams will shake with fear when the Feds raid their house/place of business.

Girlfriend last night tells me that one of her best friends is getting married this fall. Yup you guessed it, October 10th during Texas-OU weekend. I told her I'm not going. She argues with something like, "even if they do play, fans won't be allowed to go." I rebuttal with, "you probably won't be able to go to your friends wedding depending on social distancing restrictions. She'll probably only be allowed to have immediate family and no one else. either way, I'm not going. Also, isn't this your friend's second wedding?"
Check & mate.

That's a matter for the people of Mississippi. And my understanding is that while it didn't become an official flag until the 1890s, it was an unofficial flag before the Civil War, unlike Georgia's old flag which was of 1950s origin.
The Southern Cross predates the Civil War?
This Yankee learns something new on this board every day!

In around 1976 or '77 some band members went in to the football locker rooms to clean their tubas or some shit after practice thinking no one was in there. Out pops Earle Bruce and he goes bananas... "What the FUCK are you doing in here, this is the fucking VARSITY locker room!!!" To which one of the band guys says, "COACH, it's okay, we're the VARSITY BAND."
They still call it the ISU Varsity Marching Band.
