  1. If there's one thing I've learned reading this thread it's that your analogy game better be air-fucking-tight.

This pandemic reminds me of a story called The Puppy Who Lost His Way...

The puppy was like the American people in that they were both lost in the woods.  And nobody, especially the little boy..."big pharma vaccination development" knew where to find them.  Except that the puppy was a dog.  But the corona virus my friends, that is a global pandemic.

    What?

I'm way up on the Minnesota border and we saw nothing.  Hell, I took the dog out to piss about 3AM and was comfortable in gym shorts.  It's sleeting now, but that shouldn't amount to much.

Was a skiff overnight here in the Siouxer...still hovering around freezing.  Started out as ice.  My cousins in Austin love to bitch about the heat but I'd take it ten times out of ten over ice and snow past April 1st (or fucking March 1st).  This is horseshit.

How does this relate to selling widgets?  It's all about advertising.  No one watches Stanford and Cal.  If I want to see a doco about Bill Gates, I'll watch the history channel.  Texas is crazy for not going to the SEC.  I can't stand this elitist snobbery.

This is an excellent question.  I don't know the answer... but it does seem far out that academically / athletically rich and powerful institutions like SC and Stanford could be in as weak of positions as some of these reports say they are.  Major college football (athletics) is just a really weird animal.  Where else does a giant not for profit enterprise converge with an off the charts for profit enterprise as in P5 football?  I mean, besides the US House of Representatives...

PS It fucking snowed here last night.

The Pac-12 GOR expire at the end of 2023, while the Big 12 expires in June of 2025.

I think the way this goes is that the Pac-12 gets a new deal with the idea that behind the scenes, the networks know the Pac will get the Texomakan 6 and move to be the Pac-18. Three time zones, big names in Texas, OU, and KU (hoops), and Pac gets two AAU institutions in UT and KU. It also keeps the lawsuits from Baylor from really ever getting off the ground because they were not invited, most likely because of religious reasons (see BYU) that don't mesh with the liberal views of the West Coast.

Iowa State and WVU join the AAC, while TCU and Baylor join the MWC.

They could take a 3rd AAU and increase the footprint (if you're into that sort of thing), add a burgeoning / established western program (you pick) and bingo bango...Pac XX!

Any chance we could kick out WVU and Iowa State/Kansas State for Cal and Stanford? WVU is too far east for the Pac 12 schools we're adding and given a choice I'm taking them instead. We could also kick out the other of Iowa State/Kansas State for Colorado. Most of the schools in the Big XII should be G5 schools imo so it would be to get rid of the shitters. Also Cal and Stanford are Olympic sports elites along with the SoCal schools and us so that would be great.

    Ouch, Boat.  COLD BLOODED...

I previously argued on this board (or its predecessor) that Sabbath may be the most influential rock band of all time, because basically every genre of heavy metal can trace a direct lineage to that band.  Our resident Beatlemaniacs reacted with measured, justifiable disagreement.

JK.  They fucking lost their shit.

There is no doubt that the Beatles are one of if not the most influential rock band ever.  Ozzy himself was inspired by the Beatles to become a professional musician.  But Sabbath invented a genre.

The influence challenge is unwinnable.  Someone influenced Chuck Berry, Elvis, The Beatles (Brian Wilson says "hi"), The Velvet Underground, Sabbath, Kraftwerk, etc., etc.

But as a starting point to a genre Black Sabbath is a book of Genesis.  And imo, really fucking good.

  7. Yesterday...

Originally released on Friday the 13th of February, 1970 in the UK.  That summer in the States.

One of the greatest and most influential records of all time.

It's tied with Vol. 4 for my personal Sabbath favorite album.  Your thoughts on this masterpiece?

My 10 y/o son recently asked me what was my favorite song on Reign In Blood.  We agreed that Raining Blood is the best song.  It's a conversation I never thought I'd have...

Absolutely #1 for me.  So different.  Opens with "Born Under Punches" which I just love.  "The Great Curve" is an awesome "put on the headphones and chill" song.  "Listening Wind" and "overload" are just phenomenal too.

Yeah, one of the best track one side one tunes ever.

  10. In October...

Was curious where you all rank it in the Talking Heads discography.  I think it's typically considered their best album.  In my opinion it's the last album that's not a full on David Byrne vehicle but that could be Fear of Music in '79.

Anyway, I love Remain In Light and also watching the 1980 concert tour footage that includes all the guests, especially Adrian Belew.

The Big12 is mediocre.  Texas athletic department is mediocre.  Texas' revenue is #1.  If Texas desires to stay #1 in revenue, it's going to have to make a move.  The position we have in the Big 12 is going to be our death in the long run.  We need to take some risk and get stronger.  The Big 12 is not helping us.  The thought of an easy path to the playoff is not helping anyone in the Big 12.  Soon if we aren't already there, the Big 12 will not garner a spot in the playoff unless the champion is undefeated.  A one loss OU or Texas will be percieved as weak because of OU's poor performances in the playoff.  It's coming.  The B1G and SEC will poach more and more Texas talent due to the perceived weakness of the B12.  Right now, Texas is weak.  We are not a great football school.

As an outside observer I see a lack of commitment by your AD to football excellence.  UT is a historic blue blooded brand.  They are now, they were while they were in the SWC, and I presume before that...

The Big 12 will suffice as a supporting conference for UT.  OU's trips to the playoff prove that.

UT doesn't have the best coaches they could / should have.  By adding Chris Ash you'll now have three former ISU coaches on your staff (Herman, Ash, McKnight) at critical positions none of whom we miss.  CDC needs to make a statement hire.  If that's Urban or Saban or fucking Bill Belichick he needs to do it.  Are we really supposed to believe that Alabama and tOSU are destinations above UT???  The richest AD in America should have a top 3 head coach minimum.  You don't.

Also, UT and OU need to pressure the conference brass to go to eight conference games thereby opening up dates for UT & OU to schedule up (or down).

Why the hell had Garrett not been fired yet?

I don't know who knows besides me... Jason Garrett is one of Jerry's sons. He will be on staff... Probably as head coach.

Red headed step child?  Fuck that.  Red headed LOVE CHILD.  It all makes sense now!

It’s the story of our season. We clearly have the raw talent to beat these guys but we step on our dicks at a pace that borders on intentional

And this staff seems to have neither the desire nor the ability to unfuck these guys.

As the GOR approaches, it will be interesting to see if it is extended.  Can the Big 12 negotiate a decent deal?  Does OU and UT demand higher distributions than the rest of the conference?  How would the other eight react if that happens.  What real options do OU and UT have if they want to leave?

In what sense?  Do you mean making a deal with a conference that already has a deal in place?  I presume that at least UT has many options.  What conference is not made better in every way by adding UT?

The same reason that I am a TX Rangers fan. I was born into it. I didn't stop being a fan of Dallas area teams when I lived somewhere else.

I think the OP is about why someone from elsewhere would be a fan.  I've got a good buddy up here in Iowa who told me straight out that when he was in first grade he liked the Cowboys colors / unis and that was it, that's how he picked the Cowboys.  We're in our mid forties now and he's as passionate as ever about the Cowboys.
