I think that the fan indifference at Minnesota was due to their sharing a Pro Stadium for all those years. The experience didn't create the loyal college fan that an on campus stadium like they have now would have. It is going to time and winning for that to happen.  It really makes a difference as an alum to be able to run around in your old stomping grounds before or after the game as opposed to the experience of a pro stadium that is all business. Imagine if we had every home game at Jerry World, that would suck.

Agreed...and sharing a city.  I wonder if it's that simple?  Would UM athletics be more popular and perform better if they were in Mankato or St. Cloud?

I agree with that.  Campbell is good people, and not just because he is from Ohio.

    ETA

How is harvest going for you?  Is it a shit show?

And Matt is a practicing Catholic, IIRC.  What makes me nervous is FSU money-whipping Brian Kelly and whispering sweet nothings in his ear about zero academic standards at FSU combined with remarkably fertile recruiting grounds.

I'd presume that Campbell is on ND's short list along with Pat Fitzgerald.

    Agreed.

I think OU is still really good and will probably butt fuck everyone left.

End up out of the playoffs and just thrashing whatever SEC team misses the playoffs in the Sugar Bowl.

I hope we don’t crater in Norman in a few weeks. I hate everything about the way that’s coming together.

Well, I see the game in Norman is going to be in primetime...so a butt-fucking sounds about right.

Of course on the weekend that OU & UT lose; our QB has to throw three pics in the fourth quarter so that we gain zero ground...fucking ISU moves...

This loss is on everyone not named Charlie Kolar

Mike Rose was fantastic.  After his facemask penalty he made the next three tackles.  It was a bummer but it was bound to happen when we ride Brock that hard.  Credit oSu and their staff for a well called and executed game.  Especially the first half that put us on our heels.

What is Iowa State doing on kickoffs? I know you don't to kick to Reagor but jesus.

I have no idea but it makes me want to punch a baby.  I swear to Christ our special teams coordinator is a degenerate gambler trying to give points to TCU. And this fucking black and white shit...god forbid once, ONCE we get some old school Earle Bruce style yellow helmets.  But no, let's jump on the black and white uniform trend taking taking 2010 by storm.

All that really comes down to the fact that a bad OL is a lot harder to mitigate in the red zone.

Add to the mitigating factors; a running back that could turn shit to gold (David Montgomery) and a wide receiver fast enough and big enough to snatch jump balls thrown by a quarterback under duress (Hakeem Butler).  I thought we would be fine this season...we're not.  The OL unit has shown the slowest progress since Campbell arrived.  It's happening, just not as quickly as every other unit.

    Bitter loss for ISU

It's a typical loss for ISU...what a fucking clown show.  No points in the first half and an absurd failed comeback in the fourth quarter.  Here's to eeking out a bowl berth if we're damn lucky.  Fucking fuck.

    Hopefully it’s Robert Forster.

    Yeah, pretty sure it is.

Side note: I saw a clip of Bill Burr on Rich Eisen's show and Eisen asked if he was going to be in El Camino.  Burr said he wasn't only because he had conflict.  So I presume Vince Gilligan tried to get the whole band back together so to speak.  I know that Jonathan Banks is in it (at least one flashback) so I'm hopeful Cranston is too.  And hopefully Bob Odenkirk either in flashback or present time.

    BANDGATE!  update...

Lotta unsubstantiated and unreported claims of meanness.  But an interesting nugget imo is where UI prez Bruce Harreld mentions ending the series.  Bruce clearly wants out.

Oh, and by the way; with the match from Busch Light that ISU student has raised over $1MM for the Stead Family Children's Hospital on the campus of the University of Iowa...which I presume Bruce will refuse in protest.

I don’t get the continued faith in Iowa State. Matt Campbell is an excellent coach and I’ve been hyping him since they hired him. They play good, tough football. I’m sure they’ll finish 7-5 or 8-4, either of which is great for ISU heading into a bowl.

That considered, they lost their best players to the draft, they’ve looked like shit (I fucking watched the games - they looked like shit), they’re Iowa State, and they’re playing in a strong Big 12 this year.

They were overhyped. They’re fine in the 3-7 range, but I view them as below at least TCU right now, personally, and probably KSU. Both of those schools played decent teams from other P5 conferences on the road and won. They both played tough and they played excellent defense in doing so. Advantage to both of them over ISU.

I think this is spot on. We were absolutely over-hyped pre season.  I think the defense is probably the third or fourth best in the league but the offense isn't close to that.

As you note it defies logic to put ISU ahead of TCU or KSU right now based on their performance.  OSU is also ahead of ISU based on their offensive output thus far.  And OU & UT are at the top.  A lot of us picked the trip to BU as a loss pre-season so personally I've got us behind them too right now.

ISU can finish third if and only if the offensive line experiences some really remarkable growth over the next two weeks.  It's possible, but this team has 6-6 written all over them right now.  They don't know how, or just cannot finish games.

Yeah, ISU is taking the complete denial angle. You're a homer so you, predictably, assume Iowa is making the whole thing up.

I'm sure some people are...I'm not.  But this goes back to my point about Barta and bad press for ISU.  As El Diablo rightly points out there is only a guilty verdict in the court of public opinion.  Similarly, as I'd alluded to up-thread there was a false accusation of theft previously from UI against ISU.  But really that doesn't matter; if Barta's intent is to sour UI people (and even ISU folks) on the series...this helps.

Doesn't Iowa have something like a 20 game advantage over ISU all time?

45-22 Iowa, iirc.  There is a disparity in home meetings though, by something like nine...?

No specific allegations whatsoever.  I've known a few ISU band members and I've heard stories about batteries, beer, hot dogs, whatever being thrown out at them, and I personally witnessed an elderly Hawk fan in Kinnick trying to take out ISU band members at the knee with his cane.

So, yeah, I don't really give a fuck if our fans harassed their band.  I'm not saying two wrongs make a right, but Barta should clean his own house before telling us to clean ours.

If I recall correctly it was under Barta's watch that the false accusations were made against ISU staff/students of theft in the visiting (Iowa was in Ames) locker room during a game.  It ended up being a UI student or staff or something.  Point being; whether real or not this sort of thing comes up more often now and I get the sense that Barta is sowing the seeds to sever ties with ISU.  Which, personally, I have no problem with.  It was acrimonious enough to not play for 40 years and I could take another 40 year break.  Getting Nebraska or Colorado or even Missouri back on the schedule in place of Iowa would be fine by me.
