Dan Gable would make sense but could understand why it probably wouldn't be a good idea. Could be one of those weeks where it's just some sort of celeb that has no ties to the school.

Inside the state it makes great sense. Dan always wears his ISU letter jacket and reps ISU wrestling while being one of the biggest Hawkeye legends ever.  He's really a dual fan/figure.

But that probably won't do it for ESPN.

  2. I could see Kevin Costner with the Field of Dreams anniversary and MLB thing being announced.  It won't be Kutcher.  They know it'd rain full Busch Light cans on the stage if they trotted his dumb ass out there.

I'm in the Steve Austin camp with Al.

this shows the dangers that come with playing in state little brothers especially the first game

they have all off season to prepare for their big game and their players know a lot of your players personally from HS and believe they can compete

Absolutely true.  UNI kids are all Hawkeyes fans who didn't get recruited by UI.  But feel slighted if they then didn't get recruited by lowly ISU.  UNIs qb today was a preferred walk on to ISU as a DB but went to UNI so he could play qb.  He was desperate to "show us" today.  Just like all the other Iowa kids on UNIs roster.

Ames is ridiculously easy to get to. Its probably the second closest fbs school to most dakota school fans after MN. Nebraska 3rd. Next yr NDSU resumes their fbs terror at Oregon. Thatll be a freaking test for the team and for fan travel..it isnt a day drive to iowa city ames Manhattan Minneapolis etc.

    Not sure if I'm going

Do it!  My sister went to UO...Eugene is great and Autzen is pretty cool.

That is correct. Mostly from western Minnesota, though. Being afraid of the big city is a real thing in areas that are a long ways from the Twin Cities.

And not being able to get into UM.  See also, Superhawks from the Western (Chicago) Suburbs.

Joel Maturi (Minnesota AD in the early 2000s) also loved booking the Dakota schools. Between us, I think we bankrolled the transitions of all the Dakota schools to 1-AA.

Like you, I don't ever want to see any of the Dakota schools on our schedule ever again. I remember the first game vs.. NDSU in 2006 at the Humpty Dump. There was so much green and gold that it felt like Lambeau Field.

As for the game last night, it lacked any aesthetic niceties, but a win is a win.

And Chris Farley's HS football coach and inspiration for Matt Foley, motivational speaker.

It's incredible. That thread has actually been visited by paid B1G propaganda machines, and a couple posters over there are suspected as being the same.

It's just fucking weird anyway.  You'd think OU fans were all schizophrenic bipolar basket cases by reading it.  "We are the greatest, most oppressed, most decorated, least respected, most independent, most hamstrung by a conference, richest, poorest program in America!"

Lol. Isu will lose to Northern Iowa and all hope for the season is lost.

At least you'll get the inevitable heartbreak over with early

Ha, that'd be an ISU move for sure...

But sounds like Clemson will be featured week one(?) So the schedule for 9/14 is looking like (unbeaten) Iowa vs. ISU could be likely.

I'm hoping Game Day comes to Ames on September 14th for the CyHawk Rivalry Game.

I'd rather UT & ISU are undefeated when the Longhorns come to Ames on 11/16 and they do it then.  It would be a pretty compelling matchup; two interesting coaches, one trying to get UT back to dominance and one trying to make ISU more successful than they've ever been.

No. Bottom is going to be really bad. Tech, WVU and KSU are looking at rough transition years. Kansas still sucks.

Agreed.  I'm not sure anyone could make the argument that the Big 12 will be strong top to bottom.  The top (UT) will be stronger and the middle (ISU, oSu, BU, TCU)  might be stronger.  But I don't see how the bottom doesn't struggle mightily simply because of the coaching transitions.  I think Klieman's transition will be very smooth at KSU but won't translate to wins yet.  The Hat could win a national championship at KU, who the fuck knows...but they won't do shit this year.

This. Iowa State is the only team that Texas has taken care of with zero drama in the Herman era. 41-17 over two years including garbage time points for ISU last year. Texas is a very bad matchup for ISU.

    Exactly this.

And while the loss of Montgomery at RB is a bit overstated, the loss of Butler is not.  We'll miss him badly.  It's nice that we're getting a lot of preseason love but that's mostly for the defense.  UT's offense will be better than ISU's offense.

And knowing ISU's luck it'll be 70 degrees at kickoff on November 16th.

That defense they're describing sounds a lot like what Pelini was running 10 years ago.  Works great in the B12, not so much in the B1G when a team like Wisconsin will just stomp all over your shit and your sucking wind by halftime.

Yep, proven by the fact that Campbell hasn't beaten Iowa yet...

No, they just aren't thinking about what other people are predicting. Standard coachspeak.

Yeah, I took it to mean they would crumble if they thought they weren't meeting expectations in the past.  Now they're more resilient mentally. And focused.  Something like that.  Campbell's not big on faux disrespect.  I mean, we're picked third behind teams he's beaten once combined for chrissakes.  That's not disrespect.

Obviously living here, I run into these fucking rubes on the reg.

Luckily, Tulsa is way more of an OSU town, and particularly where I live (midtown Tulsa) you are spared running into mouth breathers like this guy.... they are basically in force in every small piece of shit town in this state, particularly as you get closer to OKC and western OK.

The actual OU alumni who I work with are shockingly normal.  It's the white trash rubes like the dude in the picture who tend to be the overly obnoxious prototype OU fans.

Lolz, replace Tulsa with Des Moines and this is ISU/UI exactly.

  16. Why define yourself by who you're not?  It's dumb.  I've seen vehicles where someone went out and bought a Longhorns sticker and put it on their window upside down...boy, you really showed them...

I mean, I get it, every other big 12 fanbase is gonna flash the horn down when they score on UT or whatever (including mine) but OU's trophy case says they should be better than making it their sign.

Just because Oregon makes an "O" with their hands doesn't mean Oklahoma can't.

I think #3 thru #6 are all close to one another eventhough  B12 media favors Iowa State...

       3. Iowa State -- 589
        4. TCU -- 474
        5. Oklahoma State -- 460
        6. Baylor -- 453

Rhule and BU should scare the shit out of 3-5.  I know he's got my attention.

    1) I wonder if Iowa State has ever been picked this high before?

    2) Numbers 4-6 are really difficult to guess/ separate.

    3) Number 10 I feel confident about.

Lolz, no.  Maybe picked second in the North in '05?...but third in the conference?  No.
