It was the typical gentrification story. Gays move in to a rundown neighborhood in a good location inmass and fix everything up. Now only top 20% incomes can afford the area.
You can sip wine while strolling between art galleries on High St these days. -
Yeah, so you’re about my age. Compare 6th Street in 1985 to 2005; is that the High Street analogy?
Wasn’t there in 2005. The job was a decade later so I wasn’t hitting High St in my late 40s while raising kids outside of having dinner at the tiki bar. The Bridge Park area , Clintonville, or Easton was where we went.
CBus is tracking Austin’s progress from about 30 years ago. Same liberal magnet in and conservative area and graduates don’t want to leave. Not on navigable water so heavy industry is tied to railway thus mostly white collar service jobs. -
How old are you?
Old enough to have pissed off Akers while I was playing racquetball in Bellmont.
Old enough to have had an afternoon Statesman paper route.
My father was a Silver Spur 75 years ago. -
As long as you aren’t running the townie ghetto of High Street bars to and from, you’ll be fine…
It’s been 20 years. That shit is all gentrified now. This like expecting to walk into 1985 Austin in 2005. -
Kamehameha School is pretty badass, actually. It prioritizes admissions of kids with some proof of Hawaiian descent as well as indigent kids and orphans. You can imagine how many of those kids playing o-line are some seriously pissed off motherfuckers. They have some serious grudges.
I think it's interesting to know that the school also owns the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, several malls on Oahu, the Four Seasons, a few condos in Waikiki, and a bunch of exclusive properties in Kahala (one of the wealthiest parts of the state). They used to own the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center as well. Many people who have visited Oahu have personally donated to KS without ever knowingly doing so. /csb
So, the school is part of the Bishop Estate which is worth over 20 billion.
We have good friend in leadership there that my wife trained and they are now in the equivalent of my wife’s role there.
How good a friend? We took a working vacation to help them fix their parent’s house, that had been a rental for many years, in Pacific Heights when they hired and returning from the mainland. My wife is a Kailua Surfriders grad.
The school still has to deal with government oversight from the trustees scandal that was over 20 years ago. -
How much does the Texas d line rotate? That's been a criticism of Ohio State by fans earlier in the season but now it seems like there is more trust and the d line is fresher later in the game.
Texas played 97 d snaps against ASU. Whatever it is Texas good. -
At this point the disrespect for our team, what they've accomplished, and how they've played is basically triggering me.
I know implicitly it's bc the narrative is always to shit on and hate Texas but it's getting very annoying.
Every serious fan watching the sport saw that every team this year is beatable and nothing was certain. But now it's all conveniently forgotten.
Praying to the CFB gods this team is fired up to a level last seen in bumfuck Tuscaloosa.
This is along the lines of what I’ve been kicking around in my head for a few days.
Jaylon turns and makes the block for a pick 6 and Texas wins the SEC CCG. That changes the entire media narrative around this game. -
I would rather not be tied to that boat anchor of buffoonery, given the choice. They're both hayseeds and pussies.
We should sue to prevent them from having TEXAS on their uniforms. As in, everything they wear should just say "A&M." They embarrass the Great State.

I moved out to the Phoenix metro just over 4 years ago, from the Austin area. Yes it gets hot in July and August (115°+), but if you're not in direct sun it's tolerable (that's where misters are great to have). I also have a pool, makes those hot evenings a lot more tolerable. This last summer had over 30 consecutive days of over 110°. Last winter there were only two nights where the temp hit 32°. Winters are extraordinarily mild, and pleasant. When Texas got hit with the Ice Armageddon, we didn't get a single night of ice.
I prefer dealing with a couple months of very hot weather, and many more months of very nice weather. Winter is not wet and cold, just cool. Today was 49° at 8 AM and 75° at 4 PM.
Add to this with not doing the time change in summer daybreak is about 5am and it takes around 90 minutes for the sun to clear mountains to roast you. You can get an early morning run in.
I really don’t find summer different from Dallas or Houston.
Evaporation works here. Took me a while to realize why I wasn’t sweat soaked. Getting in an 80F pool when it is 115F is same body shock as getting into Barton Springs.
7 months out of the year the weather is fantastic. -
Casting Couch U. An ASU alum I used to bang told me that cc is shot there, no clue if true.
Kind of concerned it took this long to get to Only Fans ag. -
2024 SEC Championship vs Georgia L, 2023 CFP vs Washington L, 2023 Big 12 Championship vs OU W, 2018 Big 12 Championship vs OU L, 2009 National Championship vs Bama L, 2009 Big 12 Championship vs Nebraska W
Can do this all day but point is in the past 25 years Texas is 4-6 with a Championship or a chance to keep the national championship season alive. Not sure what has changed. Hell even King of the Hill has an episode showing Texas can't win the big one. The Alamo and Texas Bowl wins are great though! I'm sure many fans remember the likes of DKR and the runs the teams had in 60's and 70's, or the runs of what almost were. Mudstomping is considered only a 17 point win now, but when you've gone through what you have and not seeing a two score win in a big game I understand.
Also, comical to point out a bad ACC conference when 27 of your 33 conference championships came in the SWC where yall were the biggest school in their. Not to mention the 2 in the TIAA?
Always had respect and liked watching Texas but to disrespect Dear Old Clemson doesn't sit right with me. So sit back and watch how history continues to write itself and the jokes about Texas being back never dies.
So, Clemson-Ing? -

Can we just rename this the aggy dffect for clarity. And I have asked someone if they were using the Dunning-Kruger methodology before after receiving their brilliant insight.
"The Dunning–Kruger effect is defined as the tendency of people with low ability in a specific area to give overly positive assessments of this ability.[2][3][4] This is often seen as a cognitive bias, i.e. as a systematic tendency to engage in erroneous forms of thinking and judging.[5][6][7] In the case of the Dunning–Kruger effect, this applies mainly to people with low skill in a specific area trying to evaluate their competence within this area. The systematic error concerns their tendency to greatly overestimate their competence, i.e. to see themselves as more skilled than they are."
aggy = Dunning-Kroger effect-

Had dinner last night at Ocean 44. Outstanding in all aspects. Sat at the bar with Mrs. Smwhorn (sorry, no pics, I'll cut you, man). Great drinks. Great service. Great atmosphere. Even better food.
Played both Talking Stick courses. Both are worth it.
Casino is shit. It was clean and not all that smoke filled but I could not believe how crowded it was. There were literally no tables last night after we got back from dinner where there was more than one seat at the table. Most tables were completely full. Sportsbook was packed.
Lost both the over at 47.5 and the -18.5.
Won Auburn +1.5.
First week of the snowbirds return for winter everything was crowded. -
that's really well-written.
Noticed too.
He going to have a line trying to hire him if he can’t return to football. -
TS- table service
QS- quick service -
Going to DL for the first time in over 40 years. Career has us in Phoenix so we will drive with it being under 6 hours. It will be the 37th anniversary of our first date and with relocating 3 times in the last 4 years our first couple’s vacation in a few years.
Reading mdmost it seems like 3 days of park tickets maybe overkill. But it is what I’ve been thinking being used to WDW.
Restaurants/meals. At WDW we always did a nice TS at lunch after hitting rope drop and mixed QS and TS for dinner. Seems like TS for dinner is the better way at DL.
Likely to stay on property so choosing between the Grand and DL hotel.
Evening light-show/fireworks advice? Dinner package? -
I feel really good about the Blue Wall and GA. What are y'all thinking on NC, AZ and NV?
Seems to me North Carolina is the most likely of the 3, followed by NV and AZ.
I would have had that AZ, NV, NC a week ago.
She takes all of them.
I’m in Maricopa they is very little Trump signs. These are McCain Republicans.
People really need to think about how many voted Nikki Haley in the GOP primaries. -
Nikki Haley primary votes is where I’d start in trying to divine who crosses over or opts out. How many of those return to the fold?
-
Significantly more registered Republicans voted than registered Democrats in Arizona in 2020 and 2022. It worked out ok. The hole isn't massive at all.
John McCain Republicans aren’t big on Trump.
If women over 65 are breaking heavily for Harris keep in mind AZ has a huge retiree population.
Harris takes AZ.-

About Republicans voting for Harris. Anecdotal, but interesting story:
Last night, I got a call from a friend in Baltimore for a business trip last and visiting family over the weekend. He told me the following:
Was in a cafe/coffeehouse near his hotel. Two 65-ish men sat down at the table next to him. They were "Republicans for Harris."
-- They did canvassing for Harris among Republicans in PA. Optimistic about what they saw.
-- Had "Republicans for Harris" signs in car window. Said that 90% of driver responses were positive, though they said 5-6 Trumper-MAGAs were pissed and shot them the finger and yelled at them.
-- They told my friend that they expect 10-11% of Republicans to vote for Harris nationwide.
So, here is my question, followed by a comment.
Question: If Harris gets 10% of Republicans, how does she not win in a landslide? Are the polls not considering the "R for Harris" voters?
Comments: That also means 90% of Republican voters are voting for a Christian fascist dictatorship. Come on Surly Republicans and conservatives, tell me how this is going away after Trump? I'll answer. It is not going away.
-- The Republican Party is a Christian Fascist party. They want to end secular democracy. END OF STORY.
I’d also guess ~5% of registered R leave the top of the ticket blank.-

Any seen the Selzer poll breakdown?
If it is truly 85% of Iowa women over 65 voting for Harris because of Dobbs this is over.-

2000 South Congress to 2020 SoCo is analogous.
It is called the Short North now and not High St.
