So, we ever gonna get another commitment?  This feels less than ideal as a start to what you would hope would be a new coach bounce.  Not panicking yet- just thinking about sort of maybe getting ready to panic in another couple months, maybe?   Rather skip that stage and just be excited about this class.

Patience. Couple pages ago someone posted that Gerry put the O/U at 6.5 commits before the end of July.

    I mean, holy shit.

Out of 24 non-transfer signees, 8 transfers (assuming Smith is gone) and 3 medical retirements.

Whit has been the most productive out of the top 10 guys signed and he's barely been able to stay on the field. Adimora probably has played the most out of anyone in the class.

    Just unbelievably bad.

I didn't even think about DGF, Derrian Brown, and Mpagi all being in the same class. That is some seriously shitty luck.

yeah as soon as I saw this bumped, I knew what the news was

wasn't everyone else expecting him to transfer? because from the start he seemed like a contributor level player at best and there was a disconnect between attitude and aptitude

Yeah feels like he's been unhappy since day 1.

I watched Miller's tape this morning as well and liked it better than Gatson's (duh). Miller's best skill is his burst, which is pretty dang good. Very different running style from Gatson - Miller likes to be patient waiting for his blockers to set up and then explode through the hole. Consequently it takes him a bit longer to get headed north and south than Gatson, but he'll be much more likely to hit home runs. Top end speed is also very good, better than Gatson. He can catch as well.

  5. OK I just watched Gatson's tape for the first time. I like the vision - his best skill is his ability to slash his way through heavy traffic. Powerful lower half and low center of gravity make him tough to bring down. Top end speed is adequate at best. I don't remember a single highlight of him catching the ball out of the backfield which is weird. Body style and film remind me somewhat of Vondrell McGee.

  6. If Gatson commits to USC today, it's going to be really hard to figure out what we're doing at RB. That puts us almost back at square one, depending on how you view the situation with Blue. Miller, Citizen, and LV dude aren't happening. Jones not a take.

Either they feel a lot better about Blue than we as fans do, or they're starting to view RB more like the NFL does. Basically they're interchangeable and you just go get the best guy you can from the portal every year.

(Mike Roach) Afternoon Delight: Commitment coming for Texas?

      Hide contents

    — Newton running back DeAnthony Gatson will make his decision tomorrow. I've been going back and forth over this one for a while, but I've decided to enter a 247Sports Crystal Ball pick in favor of Texas. When Gatson made his visit to Austin a few weeks ago, we heard very strong feedback regarding the trip, but there was still some uncertainty about where Texas saw him. When the Longhorns canceled the visit of Tavorus Jones this weekend, I was told it was a strong indicator about where Texas stood with another back in the class. Complicating the matter was the confidence at USC about landing him, but after talking to folks today, I'm moving forward with a cautiously optimistic Texas pick.

    — LSU commit Jacoby Mathews made an official visit to Texas A&M last week. I had heard during the spring that Texas still expected to get Mathews on campus, so I checked around to see if he might take a trip this week. I was told that Mathews was kicking the idea around but nothing is set in stone at the moment. One source I spoke with said they didn't believe he'd ultimately make the trip. Additionally, I checked with Florida commit Isaiah Bond who was scheduled for an official visit next week. Bond made trips to Miami and Alabama, but he told me he will not be making the trip to Austin.

    — Beaumont Westbrook safety Bryce Anderson has been back and forth about his decision date and visit to Texas. I was told today that the current plan was still to come in on Saturday after his team is done with the state 7v7 tournament. While he teased the idea of moving the decision date back, a source I spoke with still expects him to decide on July 4. Anderson and his family are still working out if this weekend will be official or unofficial.

    — Tenaha linebacker Jeremy Patton is still making his visits. Texas made a huge first impression on him, but he wants to take in the whole experience. Texas is working on getting Patton to return for an unofficial visit sometime this summer to try and solidify their position. Patton is currently looking at an October decision date, but he could move that up depending on how he feels.

So Anderson is going to be this year’s Guy That Sticks to an Early Commitment Date That Literally Nobody is Forcing Him to Stick to Even Though He Doesn’t Know Where He Wants to Go.

  8. As someone who has bought and sold a house in the last 6 months, I wholeheartedly agree that standard realtor fees are pretty painful for the consumer. I liked our realtor. I thought he did a fine job. I'd use him again or recommend him. But I'm also not really confident that he did almost $10k worth of work in selling my mid-range 1800sf house.

That being said, "disruption" as I understand it sounds a lot like "fragmentation". If you want to see what houses are for sale right now in any given area, you go to the MLS. Period, end of story. It's a monopoly, sure, but that setup does have its benefits for the consumer. Is a world in which buyers need to track down listings separately on an MLS, Zillow, Redfin, Trulia, etc going to be better somehow? I have my doubts. Oh, realtor X only has a deal to show only houses listed on Zillow and Trulia. Realtor Y on the other hand works with the official MLS. And so on. Zillow and the like aren't heroes out there fighting valiantly for the little guy. They're not running a charity. Ultimately every "disruption" is just someone else trying to carve out a piece of the pie for themselves.

I see parallels with the transition from cable to streaming. We all hated cable and for good reason. But now we've just ended up with 5 different streaming services, paying roughly the same bill per month, and never knowing wtf show is on what service. Maybe we're slightly better off at the moment, but in the long run, someone clever is going to figure out how to wring every possible dollar out of the consumer.

  9. That Gucci thing might be the ugliest piece of shit I've ever seen in my life.

This thread makes me feel poor. Curious what the household income range is for you guys. 100K - $200K, $200K - $300K, $300K+?

My wife and I make good money, but I'd find it hard to pull a trigger on anything > $3K for myself without a LOT of hemming and hawing.

Like @Sam Lin said, a lot of it is personal priorities. I'm not nearly the collector that some in this thread are and I'm not Surly 1%, but I have a couple of nice watches that most people would consider "expensive". On the other hand, the TVs in my house are 15 year old 720p LCDs, whereas some people want to have the newest 4K OLED. I drive a Toyota, other people want to drive an Audi.

The other thing is that lots of people that are into watches buy and sell them pretty frequently. Few people have a drawer full of $10k watches collecting dust. The right kind of watch will hold its value fairly well, so it's different from spending $10k on a vacation and then that money is gone forever.

Good job. That frees up space for your wife to get more crap.

Hell yeah. To be fair to her though, I am the crap-keeper in our family. Not pictured above is her standing just out of frame rolling her eyes. She just doesn’t understand that I NEED to keep all 4 boxes of my late dad’s water-damaged baseball card collection.
