I was surrounded by about 80 rabid LSU fans with 20 or so fans from other SEC schools. They hate us so much. At a round table during a golf tourney weather delay an old dog orthopedic surgeon LSU fan gave me the dig that it took being able to pay players openly for Texas to be good again. I just said, “Yea we are all real excited and loving this new era. It’s been really fun.” The scowl he gave was better than a birdie putt. Welcome to the fucking show you fucking dildo.

Damn what a sick burn. He really got you. Hope you’re doing ok.

Should’ve asked him about their baseball team.

  2. Calvin Thomas looks like a future pass rushing DE to me. He's got that long lanky body type and seems to be move better in a straight line than side-to-side. Get him up to 245 and turn him loose on the line of scrimmage, IMO.

I like Okpala better as a pure LB. More sudden feet and has a thicker body type. His tape shows him doing a good job fighting through traffic to meet ball carriers head on.

Quarterback Dia Bell coming back to campus to recruit

The jewel of the Texas class is excited for his official visit.

Bell is doing his part to help the Longhorns push their way back to No. 1 for a second-straight cycle.

“There’s a couple for sure, guys like Jalen Lott, guys like Kaydon Finley, guys like Malakai Lee, Felix Ojo, we’ve got Vodney Cleveland,” Bell said. “There’s a whole bunch of names we can list. Xavier Griffin, we’ve got EJ Crowell out in Alabama.

“From what I can see I feel like Felix is feeling us, I feel like Vodney is there as well. I’m going to work Kaydon as much as I can this weekend. I feel me and him can do big things at Texas. I feel like he already has that connection with his dad going there. I’ve been trying to work Jalen Lott as well.

    The latest on Kaydon Finley

As Bell said, he’s pushing hard to add the legacy recruit to the Longhorns staff and Sarkisian and company have prioritized him the entire cycle.

It’s Notre Dame or Texas. Sources that spent time with him in South Bend like where ND stands following two summer visits. Confidence has always been high around Austin.

I do think Finley is probably a better bet than Jalen Lott at this point to land at Texas but we’ll see how it plays out.

    Five-stars coming to campus

Five-star defensive lineman Richard Wesley and five-star tight end Kaiden Prothro take their official visits to campus. The Longhorns are working to make up ground on Oregon with Wesley and Georgia with Prothro coming into the weekend.

    Add another five-star

On3 has confirmed Loganville (Ga.) Grayson five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson is coming back to Texas.

The Longhorns have had Atkinson on campus in the past, for the Georgia game last fall. Perhaps this becomes a Texas-Bulldogs battle down the stretch.

Texas is pushing the opportunity to come in and play right away in the spot Anthony Hill will be leaving following the season as a potential first round pick.

Atkinson trains in Texas as well.

The On3 Industry ranks Atkinson as the nation’s No. 1 linebacker and No. 8 prospect overall. Steve Sarkisian and company are pushing to get him on campus for the last official visit.

Atkinson has already taken officials to Georgia, Oregon and Clemson.

Quick hitters on other top targets

I still like my On3 RPM in favor of Texas for the nation’s No. 2 interior offensive lineman John Turntine. Same goes for my prediction in favor of Felix Ojo who visited last weekend.

USC is trending up for coveted edge rusher Luke Wafle but this has been a fluid recruitment and there is confidence around Texas they can still make another move.

I still like my prediction in favor of Texas for four-star safety Chace Calicut. I’m close to logging a prediction in favor of UT for On300 defensive lineman Kendall Guervil.

Texas is emerging as the favorites for in-state linebackers Calvin Thomas and Kosi Okpala.

Corona (Calif.) Centennial tight end Keawe Brown is on commit watch.

    More Longhorns buzz

Texas has the momentum with On300 cornerback Samari Matthews going into this weekend’s OV to South Carolina.

Logged a new prediction for Texas to land four-star defensive lineman Vodney Cleveland.

A source feels UT is trending up with On300 offensive tackle Malakai Lee.

Still feel good about the On3 RPM in favor of blue-chip defensive lineman Jamarion Carlton.

The prospects are out there for Texas to make another run at a second-straight No. 1 class.

    The TL;DR:

    • Fong thinks we get Turntine, Ojo, Calicut, Guervil, Keawe, Cleveland, and Carlton
    • Thinks we lead for Calvin Thomas, Okpala, Samari Matthews, and Malakai Lee(?)
    • Noncommittal on Finley. Fades our chances with Lott.
    • In the hunt but not leading for Atkinson, Prothro, Wesley, and Wafle.

  4. Lalas is an idiot and it's not a good take, but the criticism of him isn't understanding the distinction between socioeconomic/racial diversity (which is a worthy goal) and stylistic diversity (which, as Lalas points out, national teams don't really have time to deal with). If I squint, I can kind of see what he's getting at. Isn't everyone always saying that the strength of the German program is that from the national team all the way on down to the youth level, the training/philosophy/etc is all rowing in the same direction? Whereas on the other hand, we have key senior-level players that came up entirely in the English or German systems and basically arrived to the USMNT fully formed.

A better counterargument to Lalas than the one given in the article (France national team with lots of ethnic - although maybe not stylistic/experiential - diversity) would be someone like Messi, who left Argentina as a young kid to train in Europe and still integrates well into the Argentina national team. Of course that's Messi.

Discussion about an Al Nippon 787 that had both engines do an uncommanded shutdown on landing rollout in 2019.  Apparently the cause was not determined.  However, there is apparently software on 787 that will shut down the engines if the actual thrust is much higher than the commanded thrust.  But it is only activated on ground.

That doesn’t seem like the kind of thing that you just say “fuck it” and move on. Take it from me, I’m possibly the world’s leading expert on saying fuck it and moving on.

fwiw, the survivor stated that there was a "loud noise" that preceded the crash.

Considering that the poor dude just stumbled away from a fiery plane crash in which 200+ other people died (including his brother who was sitting in the next seat), and he's laying in a hospital bed physical pain and shock...I'd say not a whole lot.
