This likely belongs in the unpopular opinions thread, but I like Jonas.  His style isn't as flashy as the other top riders, and neither is his personality, but I'm wired the same way, so I can identify with him.

It’s less my dislike for him and more the fact I’m a huge fan of Pogacar.  I also am not excited about the idea of another Froome/Sky era.

Love them or hate them, you have to admire how they manage their team.

Yeah, the combination of Roglic and Uijterbrooks transfers were brilliant for Visma.  They basically got paid to unload a 34 year old GC guy that wasn’t going to win the tour for them and took a 20 year old GC guy who can hang with the best.

I was going to suggest that @Knoxtnhorn rename the old TdF thread so we could keep that rolling, but this works.

To answer your question, yes, Pog can win the double, but I do not think he will.  Barring injury, I expect Visma/Vingegaard to again win the Tour.  I do like Pog for the Giro, but weird shit often happens in Italy, so we'll have to fuck around and find out.  It looks like Visma may give van Aert some leadership leash at the Giro, so that will be fun if it actually happens.

I will be curious to see whether Bora improves enough to seriously support Roglič, and of course the same with Quick Step and Evenepoel.  There is more top end talent than ever.  It's a good time to be a cycling fan.

I was hoping Cian Uijterbrooks would stick around to support Roglic, but “Visma Lease a Bike” had other ideas.

  4. The Giro designed that course specifically to attract Pog.  No doubt he wins the Giro, the only question is whether he will wear himself out before the Tour again.  WVA was planning to ride for GC at the Giro, I’ll be he’s saying “oh shit.”

Can’t forget to mention Roglic to Bora, should make things fun!

For that one, I had family that couldn't come last second. I had their 2 endzone seats purchased at face.   There was absolutely zero market.  I ended up trading to a couple of guys on the golf course in exchange for about 15 beers and a couple of plastic bags with ice.    Considering we were completely unprepared to tailgate and were about to walk over to the Texas Exes tent and pay $7/beer or whatever they charged, it was one of the best ticket deals I've ever made considering the market.  I knew multiple people that couldn't unload extras at all.  Ended up moving from my endzone to pretty good (unused) seats solely based on the extras floating around.

Sounds like you came out really well on that deal!  Plus, you got to watch one of the best football games in UT history.

  6. I admit, I haven’t been paying much attention to this fight other than I know it’s going on.  At the risk of sounding like a total moron, I have to ask the question.  Why should I (American) care about this Israel vs Hamas war?  I recognize the tragedy in people losing their lives in both sides, but other than that I don’t understand why I should care who wins.

I remember this as well.  Had a buddy sell tix to a random couple in the elevator that were just Ole Miss fans in town celebrating New Years for about 50% of face for 300 corners and that was a STEAL compared to what he could sell on the market. Many tix went unused last minute that game.  I don't think it will get anything close to that low for this one, but there is still a shit ton of inventory.  I'm checking about 2X per day just to keep tabs on inventory and trends but not seriously considering buying at these prices yet.

I remember at the 2004 Rose Bowl (the Michigan one) there were so many extra tickets outside the door people couldn’t get $5 for a ticket.  I felt like a dumbass for paying $140 face.

UW beat Oregon twice.....big deal....who wouldn't ?.... Will UW get some yards?...of course.....some yards.but they will have to do it in the air. I doubt they get 60 yards rushing on our Defense.....and speaking of Defense....The only thing UW knows about Defense is that they suck at it. I think we will damned near score at will on them. Most of the national guys have our Offense as " a nightmare to defend" UW is only "very good". I just do not hear much talk about Defense.

I think UW will start to press just to keep up and the game just gets out of hand for them.

Can someone find an AI image of Bevo fucking a dog?

This is an intelligent view. I think there are years where it is clear that one team is better than the other in the CFP and the only hope is for the lesser team to play perfect and the better team to play shitty. UW v Bama in 2016, Bama v MSU the year before, etc.

That isn’t this game. I, and many national analysts, like our passing game against your pass D and that is why I have confidence. But there is always risk Penix is off and that edge is neutralized to an extent. I think the key to your victory is getting Penix to make bad throws and stuff the running game. If that happens our path to victory gets very narrow. If our OL protects annd run blocks and Penix is on his game then your path narrows. The best versions of UT and UW are likely to show up and it will be a close game. (But being honest, i am hoping for a shitty version of TX v best version of UW).

    The Penis will be deflated

the worst texas team in 15 years beating nebraska when they had that game circled all year was hilarious

That video they made leading up to it was some bush league bullshit.  I wonder how many times Mack played that for the team leading up to the game.

I was really going to refrain from further banter with you, but since the Nebraska post is at the top I’ll play. I knew after your foolish corn post that you wouldn’t be able to help yourself. Luckily, I have a PhD. in mindfucking mental midgets. I knew without a doubt you would have to bring up the record between Nebraska and Texas, because you wouldn’t be able to help yourself because it was such an easy target. You know what? Those games happened almost 15 years ago, so it’s kinda like in the past like your last national championship. If you wanna know the truth, Texas has been more like Nebraska, the last 20 years than different. One fucking national championship in the last 50 years for Texas? You guys are the kings of underachievers year after year. You have the most money, the best recruiting, and for whatever reason you still can’t win the big one, and for the most part, you’re Oklahoma’s bitch. Maybe you wanna go ahead and bring up the one second or the 96 big 12 championship game. I couldn’t give a rats ass less about them either, because I’ve already gotten over it.

Here’s a good refresher for you.  It’s especially hilarious at 4:50.

Alabama hires ex-Michigan assistant ahead of CFP, source says

Story by Adam Rittenberg  • 1h

Alabama has hired ex-Michigan assistant George Helow to its coaching staff ahead of the team's CFP semifinal matchup against the Wolverines, a source told ESPN on Thursday.

Helow served as Michigan's linebackers coach in 2021 and 2022 under coach Jim Harbaugh. He and Michigan mutually parted ways in February, shortly after Michigan brought back Chris Partridge from Ole Miss to coach the linebackers. He did not coach this season.

It wasn't immediately known what Helow's role will be, but he will not be one of the Tide's 10 on-field assistants.

Alabama, the No. 4 seed in the College Football Playoff, is set to take on No. 1 Michigan on Jan. 1 in the CFP Semifinal at the Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential.

A former Ole Miss defensive back, Helow coached several standout linebackers at Michigan, including current players like Michael Barrett and Junior Colson. He worked under Wolverines defensive coordinator Jesse Minter in 2022.

Michigan fired Partridge last month for a failure "to abide by the university directive not to discuss an ongoing NCAA investigation with anyone associated with the Michigan football program." Partridge in a statement said he had no knowledge of the prohibited off-campus signal-stealing operation led by former Michigan staff member Connor Stalions.

The Athletic first reported Alabama's hiring of Helow, who has also made stops at Maryland and Colorado State. Helow started his coaching career as an intern for Alabama coach Nick Saban in 2012. He later made stops at Florida State and Georgia.

LOL - watch Michigan start bitching about sign stealing.
