Jack Buck routinely had to carry Mike Shannon's drunk ass on Cardinals' broadcasts.  It was a thing for many broadcast teams.

Getting paid to watch baseball, drink beer, and talk about what you're seeing on the field (and off).  What a life.

I was more of a Milo Hamilton man myself, but I will always be jealous of Carey's ability to wear those glasses in public.

  2. At the beginning of the season I thought the Huskies were going to be a problem on the schedule. I still think the Huskies are better than their record indicates. They've had some interesting luck. Second year head coach Jason Kelly may have overachieved last year.

    We'll see.

When Harry died, Sports Illustrated had a full page illustration of a Cubs flag at half mast that I laminated and had hanging on my wall in high school.  Can't find it on the interwebs now.  But growing up with WGN broadcast nationally (I think?  We had it in Austin anyway) made a lot of Cubs fans out of young kids watching day games at Wrigley after school got out at 3.

This team is playing in a different gear tonight. I wonder if David Pierce read all of our mean posts about the team so that they would be motivated to get their shit together.

    Or it's baseball.

I don't think we will play in Lubbock within 10 years.

I do think we will end up playing Tech relatively soon at one of those early-season tournaments at Globe Life or Minute Maid.

Well, I hope you are right...  and I'm fine with the globe life/minute maid/arizona tourneys.

I could easily see us getting sent to a Lubbock regional/super.

Hey guys... this is the last time we have to visit Lubbock ever. Like in any sport. Let's shit on their faces.

Uhm,   I'll bet we'll be playing baseball in Lubbock within 10 years.    Regional/Super Regional or lazy non-conference scheduling at which point I'll start the Jim SLOSSNAGLE GIVES ME BIG SAD thread...

For the record I don't want to play ANY of the current big 12 peeps non conference weekends at all  (home or road) when we go to SEC.  Arizona State/Arizona fine, but everyone else is Tuesday here or die.

I think that’s a good point but the context is different.  If that coach (the one we’re potentially firing) had taken over from a two time national championship winning coach and the program had lost momentum but it wasn’t a total rebuild, then yes, I think we would entertain it.  Particularly if we could see that we, regardless of the performance overall, appeared to be 4th or worse amongst regional rivals.

Mississippi State baseball let Gary Henderson go after he ran well into the playoffs after taking over for an imploding coach.  They then won it all with the new guy. So I hear you on this.
