That last quarter of the Michigan game was eye opening.  If you give him a clean pocket and time, he's Mark Rypien and will tear you to shreds.  If he has to do it on the go/underpressure, he's also Mark Rypien and his game falls apart pretty quick.

Is there any indication whatsoever that Gregg is at risk to lose his job if he doesn't get a certain result in the tournament?  They REHIRED the guy, when they already had a built in solution to move in another direction.  Get used to him remaining on the sidelines.

Gregg would have only maybe  been in trouble if we had (1) Lost to Jamaica 🇯🇲, AND (2) Not made it out of the group in the Copa.

    #1 didn’t happen.

Gregg will be the manager through 2026 barring his demise in a car crash, falling off of a hotel balcony, slipping in the shower and falling on a gun that unloads 3 to 5 rounds in his back & head, food poisoning of the Putin-esque kind, a politician sicks his mob on him…

The loss to Jamaica really needed to happen. It didn’t.

The talking heads on podcasts and such ask “Which big name coach is available? Who would really take this job right now?”

I would take BJ Callaghan in a heartbeat right now.

It doesn’t have to be a big name, it just needs to be a person who understands how to let the players cook.

  3. Apparently Sabalenka was no longer with the “boyfriend” who came to Miami to commit suicide.

Aryna Sabalenka capitulates in sad scene at Miami Open after ex-boyfriend Konstantin Koltsov’s death

The Australian Open champion’s emotions finally came pouring out after bottling up a tragic week.

A tragic and emotional week for two-time Australian Open tennis champion Aryna Sabalenka has come to an end with a third-round loss to Anhelina Kalinina at the Miami Open — just days after her ex-boyfriend reportedly took his own life.

Former Belarusian national ice hockey player Konstantin Koltsov passed away on Monday morning in what the Miami-Dade Police Department described as an “apparent suicide”.

Sabalenka and Koltsov dated for about three years but had recently broken up before the 42-year-old’s death.

And after a gutsy second-round win on Friday over best friend Paula Badosa, the world No.2 appeared to have little left in the tank physically, mentally or emotionally for a late night Saturday stadium court battle with Ukrainian Kalinina.

When her return wide gave Kalinina the 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 result, the 25-year-old Belarusian bowed her head, took a few steps then flew into a rage, venting her frustration by smashing her racquet to pieces at centre court.

With racquet destroyed, she then turned and walked off court without shaking the Ukrainian’s hand.

“It’s always tough to play on big stages against these top players,” Kalinina said. “Today was really tough with nerves but I managed in the tough moments to deal with it. So, I’m a little bit proud of myself today.”

Great updated video that includes DIRTY Sanchez (GK) trying to take a swipe at a celebrating USMNT player.

    So fucking Mexicant.

For some readers my fingers typed “diety” instead of “dirty”. How did that not autocorrect?

    Anyway… FIXED.

Is that how it is in Argentina too or are they constantly talking shit?

There were 4 sports channels when I lived there and each channel had round table shows discussing soccer.

It’s everywhere, so you could point out the failings of managers and still work.

I think that even Diego was getting criticized for stinking up the place during qualifying for 2010, especially after Argentina lost 6-1 to Bolivia (or 6-0) due to Diego’s plan of flying to altitude the day before the game and then pressing all over the field. (La Paz, Bolivia is over 2 miles above sea level.)

And when Diego & friends finally secured qualification (in a downpour on a marginally offsides goal before the days of VAR), Diego repeatedly barked to reporters in the hall outside of the locker room:

”Who’s going to suck me next?”

In English we would say “Blow me” or “suck my dick”.

A national hero on the pitch and a national embarrassment off of it. You could take Diego out of the ghetto, but you couldn’t take the ghetto out of Diego.

But Diego was chosen as the manager after the previous manager had been fired during qualifying. In Argentina, it wasn’t unheard of for a manager not to make the it through qualifying, but the federation tried to choose wisely so that they didn’t have to make a change, but the press didn’t refrain from criticizing the manager if the guy sucked ass.

Diego Maradona & Lionel Scaloni are the only two managers I know of who had less of a managing resume than Gregg, but one was a legend and the other was an assistant coach that filled in on a temporary basis and proved to be amazing.

Busio has been on the scene for about 8 years.

    …and he’s still Olympic eligible.

Hope Tessmann (sp?) is on the team as well.

1.3 million views so far of the aggy milkman doing his thing. Got to give it to LSU fans. They have exposed aggy idiocy and mocked them mercilessly online.

Speaking of The SEC, where “[They] Have Nothing Else.” (a.k.a. “It means more.”)

My brother went to Yale and showed up to see that Yale was leading in the last minute over Auburn.

After laughing at the score, he turned and asked:

    ”What conference is Auburn in?”

…because he honestly had no idea.  😂

  10. I think that Herc Gomez is on the outs with US Soccer, but ESPN loves that he has experience playing in Mexico 🇲🇽 & the USA 🇺🇸, plus USMNT experience at a World Cup.

No one else feels comfortable speaking the truth, because if they do then they won’t be selected to call USMNT games or be part of the studio team. For people who have almost no other bankable skills but to talk about soccer, that is a huge deterrent to speaking the truth.

It isn’t like all of these former players think that Berhalter is great. They know that he’s shit, but he is friends with the powers that be and US Soccer feels comfortable with him.

I really wish that there hadn’t been an own goal at the buzzer.

Gotta admit--in the waning seconds of the match, just before the accidental equalizer, I found myself resigned to a loss but hoping for a silver lining, i.e., this embarrassing result would finally motivate USSF to dump Gergg and get a real coach.

So when the tying goal found the back of the net in bonus stoppage time, I was simultaneously elated and disappointed.

I didn’t watch, but I would have loved a loss.

Jamaica with their scrub team beating our best 23 man roster in years…

That would have been glorious for those of us who hate Gregg & US Soccer’s bullshit.

Who might be the most overrated 2024 NFL Draft prospects??

I believe Dallas Turner (Bama DE) drafted in the 1st Rd is a mistake.

Found this article that discusses possible offensive busts in 2024 NFL Draft

    article hot take:

Christian Williams: Michael Penix Jr. is the most overrated player on this list, not because of talent but because of injury and age concerns that could limit draft capital upside. Penix is a great deep ball thrower operating a well-designed offense, but the injuries he's experienced show up on film (his movement skills are much worse now than when he was afreshman). He's also an older prospect. Penix looks like a second-round pick, at best, giving him a lot less value than some are speculating.

    🙄

Agreed! You do NOT want a QB with tons of starting experience who throws beautiful deep balls and has learned to bide his time in the pocket while avoiding pressure before launching pinpoint passes who will be on a 5 year rookie contract.

You want a younger guy with limited starts and inferior production.
