V1 is what made me love astronomy, college level astronomy is what made me hate astronomy.

One of my favorite classes at UT was ET Life.  Had to estimate how many intelligent species are out there that want to communicate with us.  You plugged in a bunch of factors/requirements but the final one was that they don't blow themselves up before contacting us.

  2. Looking at that combine invite list, it's the first time I've seen Sam Hartman mentioned in the draft.  Seems like that guy could be a purdy 2.0 if he gets in the right system.  Or maybe I just remember him from qb1 as one of the non-douchy guys so I'm just hoping he'll do well.

I ignored my portfolio all of 2022 and 2023. I am way up and glad that I didn't touch my investments for close to two years.

Buy index and hold for the win.

    This right here.

I did semi-early retirement (53 at the time) last February.  My advice for people contemplating the same is quite simple-just time it right before the market goes up 20+%.

  4. Re NASCAR and Denny- how in the hell can someone drive for one team and own another one, all on the same track?  Maybe it's not a rule written into the official rules because it's so damn obvious that it's a problem, but seems like a really bad idea.

If there is a lot of rock, any points can't be too deep. A 300 gallon tote with a gas pressure washer will do the trick.

Hell, It's close enough the house I can just run a hose.  Which would cause my mother to have flashbacks to the 80s when she comes out and sees that her idiot son is destroying her property with one of his projects.

Or I can get that hole digging guy from another thread to come over for a weekend.

  6. Total newb here, but I was visiting my mother's place in Kyle and noticed a bunch of flakes on a hill on her property.  Found a few promising pieces on the surface, which look like they've been worked but certainly aren't the obvious symmetrically perfect arrowheads a lot of people are posting.

Top one kind of looks like a scraper of some sort, even has a nice indentation for the thumb.  Left 2 have the best shape, but the other side of each isn't finished (see pic of reverse below).  Not sure about the other 3 but they seem to be roughly the right shape and look like they've been worked.  Maybe got some rejects they started or my imagination is seeing things in an otherwise completely natural rock.

Anyway, if these are promising and are actually man made, what's the next step to find more?  I tried putting a shovel in the ground and hit rock almost immediately.

  7. This is all sorts of fucked up, IMO.

His base from CU is $6mm per, plus endorsement deals from Aflac, KFC, etc., his NFL pension, etc.  Let's just say he's easily in the 8 figures per year.

This has to be a publicity stunt, or prime is the most self absorbed man in the world.  Or both, more likely.

  8. At the end they started talking about next to join- you'd think Lamar is a lock if he gets another MVP or wins SB this year.  Derrick Henry maybe?

It's astounding how many Heisman winners are busts.  It's almost like the award is a media driven award ...

Close to 10 years of marriage, 2 kids, sometimes working 2 extra jobs so she can spend more time with the kids, and little shit like making sure her vehicle always has gas but I've been told that peeling an orange for her is a sign of love.

We don't argue very often, but I came close to telling her to GFY.

Shit you do out of the house and away from her vision doesn't count, you know that.

When my kids were preschool and my then wife stayed home with the kids, I always got up every weekday well before anyone else, quietly showered and left for the day.  Every weekend I was told it's my turn to get up with the kids, because she just did it all week, needs to sleep in, and it's my turn to carry some weight for a change.

I mean, I didn't mind, as I wanted to see the kids and I did get an extra hour of sleep from when I normally got up, but her logic was perplexing.

  10. Re American nightmare, the ex girlfriend being the supposed target of the kidnapping wasn't really explored, seems that would be a key element of figuring out what happened. And the FBI agent that dated her seems pretty coincidental too.

And a 15k ransom?  I mean, I'm no surly 1%er but seems like a low amount to ask for if you want a kidnapping to seem real.

The only thing I came away from that knowing for sure is that the local cops are corrupt idiots.

Not directly wife related but it amuses me when someone that's supposed to be a college football writer mentions that at least Texas gets Oklahoma as a home game that year.

Seems crazy to me that Bama didn't prepare for this and start working on a more robust NIL infrastructure. Did they really think nothing was gonna change after Saban left?

It's almost as if making the 4 team playoffs every year and winning it almost half the time lulled them into a sense of complacency.

Given bama's NIL problems, combined with tOSU's hiring at AD, well that couldn't happen to 2 more deserving programs.

This used to be "cool" to say, but now, not so much.

I have every cover that Texas been on (all sports, special editions, good and bad covers, just a player shot, etc), signed by the person on the cover, or the coach of that sport at that time.  I have them packed away, but at last check it was roughly at 39 of them.  The first cover Texas was on (can't remember the name), a football player and cheerleader were walking out of the Cotton Bowl (1959 I think).  I sent that to him to sign, and when I got it back, two signatures were on it.. they got married.

    Cool collection...

    Bobby Lackey.

Edited to change from Bobby Morrow, who was a sprinter for Texas.

The commemorative issue that SI made, after and for the ‘05 NC, had a couple historical team pictures. My Dad is just to the right of a kneeling DKR, as they were awaiting the results of the coin toss, for the ‘63 Texas vs OU game.

Texas was #2 and OU was #1 going into that game. It’s currently the last time both teams have played as #1 vs #2, in the history of that rivalry.

    Hook’em!!!

1984?  I could swear we were 1 and they were 2 before we imploded at the end of that season.
