You don't think Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Arkansas are our peers? Vs current Big 12?

More our peers than  big 12, certainly.  I read peers as "equals" regarding national influence but if you mean kinda sorta in the same neighborhood and they really care about football, then ok.  I was thinking bama, OU, Georgia, fla.

Your point remains though that Texas is not going to have to be one of 2 bellcows carrying a bunch of slap dicks on our back.

Yep.  This is a good one.  I think back to when I was a kid and my parents were, say, 31 and 30.  (Would have put me at 8 years old.)  Anything that came out of their mouths was completely unquestioned.  Didn't matter the topic, perspective, or context.  It had to be absolutely 100% correct.  I'm older than them now.  I can't believe anyone listens to anything I say.  I have no idea what's going on half the time.

    This.

Same thing with professions.  Like roughly 75% of this board I'm a lawyer and growing up I assumed lawyers were brilliant people who were never wrong.  Fast forward to law school and I realized it's just a bunch of idiots that couldn't find a decent job upon graduating from undergrad.

I have not been able to find a dating app for younger women with daddy issues. Hope springs eternal.

Someday someone is going to create one of more websites that will connect older wealthy men and women seeking older men with money.  That's an arrangement many are seeking...

  4. Watched Beckham doc and as an American non soccer fan, I had no idea that he was hated by pretty much the whole country after getting booted out of the world cup final.

I'm trying to think of anything in America even remotely close to the vitriol over something that purely happened on the playing field (ie not sandusky stuff) and am coming up blank.  Take Gideon in 2008 and multiply it by 100.

Tldr-limeys really, really care about soccer and make the most ardent college football fans appear sane.

Read my post. I said at the end of the day they are going to get the blame. That said, smart adults should be able to see what went down. Same thing happened to a buddy of mine. Him and another ex-Longhorn tried to open a restaurant in Austin and it flopped. They lost a lot of money. People's kids involved makes it different from a feelings standpoint but it doesn't change what it was. Ex-athlete puts his name on something that he doesn't know how to run. Entrusts it to professionals who run it into the ground. Ex-athlete loses money and gets blame. Simple as that.

Being a small business owner I understand how this works more than most. Anyone who works for me fucks up and the blame goes on me. At least I am running things and can control how things go. Sanders not so much. The guy got fired from Prime Prep in 2013 for assaulting the CFO. He clearly wasn't running things. People here should be able to sort that out.

Assaulting the CFO?  Was it an intense discussion on depreciation that just got out of hand?  There's got to be some backstory to this.

I have little doubt Coach Herman would still be coaching here if games were officiated fairly.

This is not the thread to point out the good things that happened because of rig 12 officiating.

  7. Watching the Oregon st/CU game last night I laughed when OSU accepted an encroachment penalty on a made xp, went for 2 from the one and promptly gave up 2 points to cu on a turnover on the attempt.

I can just imagine this board exploding if that happened to us.  Does 1 yard really shift the analytics that much?  Im of the school of thought that if you really thought 2 points was worth it, go for it the first time from the 2, but perhaps the analytics say there's a 47% chance from the 2 and a 70% chance from the 1 (keep in mind we're discussing the average red zone team and not Texas which would be roughly 15% and 20%, respectively).

Based on that, it makes sense, depending on the situation.  You'd never go for 2 in a tied game late in the 4tg quarter unless your kicker's leg fell off.

As the lead increases, you should be getting more conservative and taking more guaranteed points for less variance.

Thank you!  My dogs are getting sick of me yelling this at the screen during games, though much less eloquently.

If I had 10 million dollars, and someone offered me a coin flip where I win 15 mm if it's heads and lose 10 mm if it's tails, analytics tells me that's a good bet.  But you'd be stupid to take it, given the context.

  9. So if Washington, Ohio st, FSU, bama and Texas win out, who goes?  Obviously the three undefeated, but I have a feeling that bama gets in ahead of us.  Early season loss, playing better now, SEC champ, yada yada.

I'm not saying that's right just that will be the language the committee uses as they fuck us- see 2008 (albeit absent a conference championship in 2008, but I can still see it happening).  Will be interesting if Michigan wins out instead- that'll be 3 blue bloods fighting for 2 spots, and one has pissed off a lot of people lately.

Maybe he is a pussy but also possible that it’s something personal like family member having cancer or dying and he’s overwhelmed.  I’m inclined to think it’s probably the latter.

Are you saying his Hawaiian girlfriend he never met is dying?  Caleb doesn't seem like the type to keep that private, I'll just leave it at that.  I'm gonna stick with spoiled Mama's boy until I see otherwise.

Counterpoint - We are the only Big 12 team with a credible path to the CFP, which would put $6MM in the pockets of the Big 12. It’s not a huge sum in the grand scheme of things, but it ain’t chump change either.

Or, roughly 430k in each schools pocket.  Plus that doesn't even consider that a non playoff Texas would still go to a good bowl that pays something, do the marginal benefits even less. Now go interview each AD and ask them if 430k would be worth Texas losing.  I think I know the answer
