  1. Duterte extended the most extreme quarantine zones to May 15 in some areas including Metro Manila and Central Luzon which includes Angeles City where I live. Angeles city, which has over 400,000 people has 11 confirmed cases so far with 2 deaths and 7 current. Some how that equals a high risk zone in the Philippines. The other parts of the Philippines are also quarantine zones but with less restrictions. They are still limiting travel between Barangays unfortunately. My Ex GFs apartment is in a different Barangay, but her ID says she lives with me so she cannot even go home to her apartment.  So I am stuck for at least 3 more weeks before they will hopefully relax things a little.

LOL. It was a retrospective analysis of EMR data collected in real world setting, not an interventional study. You don't get to travel back through time to make sure that you have a Zn arm in the cohort.

So no doctors included zinc? I don't believe that.

Pretty well executed retrospective analysis of VA data.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Despite limited and conflicting data on the use of hydroxychloroquine in patients with Covid-19, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized the emergency use of this drug when clinical trials are unavailable or infeasible. Hydroxychloroquine, alone or in combination with azithromycin, is being widely used in Covid-19 therapy based on anecdotal and limited observational evidence.

METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis of data from patients hospitalized with confirmed SARSCoV-2 infection in all United States Veterans Health Administration medical centers until April 11, 2020. Patients were categorized based on their exposure to hydroxychloroquine alone (HC) or with azithromycin (HC+AZ) as treatments in addition to standard supportive management for Covid-19. The two primary outcomes were death and the need for mechanical ventilation. We determined the association between treatment and the primary outcomes using competing risk hazard regression adjusting for clinical characteristics via propensity scores. Discharge and death were taken into account as competing risks and subdistribution hazard ratios are presented.

RESULTS: A total of 368 patients were evaluated (HC, n=97; HC+AZ, n=113; no HC, n=158). Rates of death in the HC, HC+AZ, and no HC groups were 27.8%, 22.1%, 11.4%, respectively. Rates of ventilation in the HC, HC+AZ, and no HC groups were 13.3%, 6.9%, 14.1%, respectively. Compared to the no HC group, the risk of death from any cause was higher in the HC group (adjusted hazard ratio, 2.61; 95% CI, 1.10 to 6.17; P=0.03) but not in the HC+AZ group (adjusted hazard ratio, 1.14; 95% CI, 0.56 to 2.32; P=0.72). The risk of ventilation was similar in the HC group (adjusted hazard ratio, 1.43; 95% CI, 0.53 to 3.79; P=0.48) and in the HC+AZ group (adjusted hazard ratio, 0.43; 95% CI, 0.16 to 1.12; P=0.09), compared to the no HC group.

CONCLUSIONS: In this study, we found no evidence that use of hydroxychloroquine, either with or without azithromycin, reduced the risk of mechanical ventilation in patients hospitalized with Covid-19. An association of increased overall mortality was identified in patients treated with hydroxychloroquine alone. These findings highlight the importance of awaiting the results of ongoing prospective, randomized, controlled studies before widespread adoption of these drugs.

Given that the zinc ionophore mechanism may be how chloroquine works it takes a real idiot to run such a study and not have a group that receives zinc supplements.

Well at least you're not calling them your "girlfriends" anymore.

I have lived with her for 7 of the 11 months I have known her, so she was a girlfriend but now we are friends with boom-boom, who happen to be living together again during the lockdown. I am not paying her to live with me, but I do buy food and other stuff she needs. I also give her money to send to her family to buy food. I don't know what you would call that as I also send money to women for food who I am not having sex with. I think I could refer to her as a girlfriend if I want.

Perhaps you would live with a woman for six months and not consider her a girlfriend. That sounds weird to me.

  5. The woman staying with me for the  lockdown went to visit her best friend who lives 100 yards up the road and was not allowed in her building because someone died there yesterday and they suspect it could be the virus. This friend comes over once or twice a week, and is the only visitor we have had for the last month. I am waiting to see if the dead guy shows up in the official statistics. So far people who have died locally are not being counted as virus victims.

The DT thread is pushing a video from “The Epoch Times” that pushes the theory that the coronavirus came from a Chinese lab.

Epoch times and the NTD channels are pro Republican and anti Chinese Communist Party. I watch them for the news on China recognizing their bias.  They usually put up a photo of source documents which is better than most media. They do run with social media video that is at best anecdotal, but the amount of lying and censorship by the CCP means we have to take what we can get and try to connect the dots.

The Wuhan viral lab published a lot of their research in journals so the fact that they were experimenting with bat coronavirus and altering them to infect other mammals so they can be studied is well founded.

i'm sure you're correct.  it was an assumption i made based on the video you posted that says, the Wuhan lab is "280 meters to be exact from the Huanan seafood market where it was originally claimed to have originated".

    care to clarify?

The CCP decided to say it was the wet market even though the person they identified as patient zero had never been there and no bats are sold there.

The lab actually went to caves in southern China 1000 km or so away to collect the virus specimens closest to SARS cov2. And then they manipulated the viruses so they would spread in other mammals they could study in the lab.

The lab was also caught using bsl 2 instead of bsl 4 gear while studying the virus.

This did not age well. I sincerely hope that bt and you will still vote.

Travis county refused to count my vote in 2018, so I am not sure it is worth my effort this time. I would have to register again since they refused my registration last time and hope for a miracle that my ballot makes it through the Philippines mail to the US. I can only vote in federal races and the congressional seat is the only one that might be competitive at this point, but I am not confident it will be. I don't have a printer so even printing the ballot takes extra effort. I hardly think it is worth my time.

Since I have no intention of ever living in the US, I am not sure if I should even care anymore about which corporate controlled lackies are pretending to care about the people.

  9. One of my girlfriends who is from Tarlac which is north of Angeles  just told me one of her next door neighbors died from Covid and authorities are in the process of disinfecting her family's home. She is very upset and afraid for her and her family. I have been sending her money for food occasionally They did go foraging on a nearby mountain and river, but they have been stripped clean. Tarlac is in Tarlac province so she cannot come to Angeles right now but I am sure I will see her again after the lockdown ends.

Picture in accordance with the rules. Her 19th Birthday was March 21, and I have checked her ID. I will add she is 4' 6" and 37kg with no babies.

  10. An acquaintance who is known as Banana Man runs an organization that feeds over 200 kids a day who live in a nearby slum. Today the mayor shut them down because the kids don't have masks and can't maintain social distancing. The mayor did offer to distribute the food if it was given to him. But the mayor had the slum bulldozed in October and he is too busy doing photo ops handing out food packages to families that can afford to own or rent homes or apartments.

  11. The Philippines reported 50 deaths yesterday to bring the total to 297. The death rate had been in the 20s, so it may be an escalation. Considering that the Chinese spread the infection here in January there must be a reason why the outbreak in Manila is not like New York City. The reported cases are over 4600 now but it is testing limited and not a valid measure. What is clear is that there are no signs of a large number of deaths occurring in peoples homes as I was anticipating.

Some Filipinos I know are in favor of the BCG vaccine hypothesis plus the higher temperatures. The vast majority of Filipinos do not have air conditioning and when they gather they tend to gather outside, such us on the street, an alleyway, under a tree, or a covered but open sided basketball court. I will be watching for results of the BCG vaccine testing, to see if it is more than a epidemiological coincidence. About 90% of babies born here get the vaccine. It may be that I am safer here from Covid than in the US after all.

Lulz. So wrong, but good guess.  No, horrible guess.

Yes, of course.  September is also foolish.   Researchers trying to get attention or funding are the worst people to listen to right now.

The Gates' are arguing 18 months.  Gottlieb / AEI 24 months.  That's what people need to hear because the population needs to be conditioned to this, not that there will be a magical injection in 5 months so you can go X-mas shopping at the mall.

A vax making things worse will be measured against no vax causing things to be even worse.  That's why the risk-benefit profile will be unique.  If the economy is in the dumper in Q4 and we're operating at 60-70% of capacity as a country, the pressure to approve and roll out immediately will be enormous.

You are right, there is no similar context for this as an event, but it's not like the first version of any vaccine is the best or the safest - that's what I was getting at relative to context.  Ramping up administration will be interesting, as you noted. Especially since healthcare workers will be one of the first constituent groups to be vaccinated.

There will be more than one vaccine, and each country / region will have to make their own assessments.  What's going to suck is if there is wide disparity on vax approval timing.  If the gap between who approves first and who approves second is 6 months or more, there's going to be some severe party crashing.

In the Philippines and similar countries the winning vaccine will be based on who pays the most bribes, so that will be interesting. We will probably get the least effective Chinese vaccine on the market.

i was wondering about that the other day, how does that work in bars? I don't think I'd mind wearing one to/from work, if i leave my desk for lunch, to the grocery store, etc, but do they take them off at bars? Do people still wear them around their necks? If they know they're going bar hopping, do they wear them the entire time except when actually ingesting alcohol? Maybe this should go in the dumb question thread but outside HK I haven't spent a lot of time in the far east unfortunately.

The Koreans I see will wear their mask on their chin when in the bar or smoking which looks stupid to me, but some take them off a put it in their pocket. The Filipino girls that go with Koreans do the mask on the chin thing too.

Updated.  Yeah, so not stoned.  Just drunk.  Looks like a weekend project.  And don't you have anybody cuter to do?  Or are we in a refractory period?

I do hope to set up my lab in the next couple years to try to manufacture electrons and protons. If I or someone else succeeds, I might then take a shot at cosmology. I am supposed to present at an energy conference in August where I will discuss electron and proton production in the hopes of getting other people interested in doing experiments. I am not sure if I will be able to travel by then.

I have an ex girlfriend living with me during the lockdown while I line up women for the post lockdown activities.

  15. I do not have a cosmological theory of the universe but I have been thinking about some of the parameters. Here are a few.

    A. There is no such thing as a non-physical material.

    B. We first need to know how electrons and protons are produced without antimatter, and possibly destroyed, in order to understand how the stable matter in the universe evolves. Without that people are just guessing.

    C. The literary definition of the universe includes everything and is therefore unlimited with respect to space and time. Non-infinite parts of the universe are merely subsets of the universe.

    D. Because of B, the universe cannot expand or contract, only regions of the universe can expand or contract.

    E. The principle of conservation of energy is not violated. So, any theory that violates the principle of conservation of energy is invalid.

    F. The local speed of light limit for light and stable matter is not violated. So, any theory that requires a violation of local speed of light limit for light or stable matter is invalid.

    G. The universe and space are by literary definition containers that contain all matter.  The universe and space are not material substances by themselves. Their physical properties are consequences of the physical matter they contain.

    H. The physical dimensions of space are determined by a physical material in space.

    I. The clock rates of space are determined by a physical material in space.

    J. All known space throughout the universe contains the quantum field consisting of quantum fluctuations and zero-point energy.

    K. Quantum fluctuations are the most elementary material substance.

    L. All physical properties and physical constants in the universe arise from the quantum field.

    M. Where there is an acceleration there is a force (F=ma). An unexplained acceleration means there is an unidentified force present.

    N. The electrical neutrality of the universe means that electrons and protons are produced in equal numbers. This means that they are either produced together in a single process or separately by identical processes with equal probabilities.

    O. N means that electrons and protons are related to each other and have the same basic structure.

The big bang model in combination with the standard model violates all of these basic physical principles. Once someone figures out how electrons and protons are produced we will have a much better chance of developing a viable cosmology.
