  1. it took 4 weeks to go from rebar to shotcrete, and it’s now been 4 weeks since tile and coping went in. decking was supposed to go in a week ago thursday. now we’re supposedly on the schedule for this monday. at this point i’m not sure i’ll be able to get the lawn repaired in time for the winter. i’m fuckin pissed at the thought of having a mud pit over the winter.

Builder says he has a new Shotcrete contractor and wants to know if I want that instead of Gunite as it won't have a 5 week wait time.  Pros/cons?  Is shotcrete used around here much?

ours is shotcrete. from my understanding, it’s just a different way to get the same cement mixed and set.

we’re 2 weeks past coping, stone and plumbing completion and still waiting on decking. the recent rain hasn’t helped but fuuuuuck. we’re like 5 weeks behind schedule at this point.

  3. they started on coping today and dropped off a bunch stone. it’s nice to see things actually happening now.

our builder told us yesterday that his plaster guy no longer installs quartzscape, so we’re getting something called microfusion for the same cost. in my 3 second googlings, i see it’s mini pebble and i’m surprised we’re not being charged additional for it.

    Seen any recovery?

it hasn’t gotten worse, so i’m just gonna take that as a win haha. we’re probably a month away from repairing the sprinklers and laying new sod. i kind of want to scalp the existing and see if i can get it to green up before then.

Noice! Hopefully your pool equipment is all in at the supplier. That seems to be the next choke point.

man i hope not. he said he hasn’t had any delays ordering equipment or tile so fingers crossed.

i ordered a dolphin a30 robot from here on wednesday and it delivered this morning. $899 shipped, while the polaris 280 and dedicated booster pump i removed would’ve cost $1100*. it’s not much in the grand scheme of the total build cost, but i still feel like i won haha.

  6. 3 weeks since rebar and still no gunite. builder told us he expected it to happen “very early this week”. 😒

not sure why they can’t trench and lay the rest of the plumbing and other shit while we’re waiting.

after the weekend rain, the hole held some water for a few days. a little frog was in there living it up. fucker got to be the first to swim in our pool.

  7. we started on a pool build in july and my sprinklers have been off ever since. i’ve been using an impulse sprinkler and hand watering a total of 2 hr/wk. i’ve used my usual milorganite and added hydretain for good measure but it looks like i’m losing the battle to keep it alive. could it be from stress where the skid steer tore shit up? overwatering? underwatering?

this is my 6th summer here and the first time it hasn’t been deep green in august

My depth is 7 ft at one end and 4.5 ft near the spa.
I pretty much owner built mine and havent added up all the costs.
Original pool builder quoted us $70k with the spa, salt and chiller. That did not include my deck of conc/travertine, waterfall, and slide. After the dig/rebar the PB took forever. So,got rid of him and took over.
3 weeks since gunite and Im almost all full of water. Slide shipped today, need to kool cote the existing brown deck and concrete sidewalk from the spa to the slide location, so need to tie up a few things but we are ready to swim. Gonna take a break and get it done in Sept.

    badass!

we’re nearing two weeks now since rebar and rough in plumbing. builder said we were on the schedule for gunite this week, but tmrw is friday and not a fuckin peep.

I'm guessing this clip from the new Politico interview will be the big news today. Russia has something very deep and dark on this man.

it’s hard to believe this dipshit is our president. it’s even harder to believe he conned 40% of the country into joining his cult. wtf.

I love my Dolphin robot. Cleans very well (never seen a missed leaf or object) and can even climb the wall high enough to scrub the tile along the waterline. I only run every couple weeks usually for two cycles at two hours each. I also have a wall around the back of my pool that helps keep a lot of debris out.

scrubbing the waterline is a big reason why i removed the 280 and booster from the build in favor of a robot.

Let's be honest, the #BuyGoya Trump supporters can't handle anything with more flavor than salt and black pepper.  They won't be buying shit from Goya.

    you forgot ketchup.

    Dirt u in pville?

Im in round rock. These gunite/shotcrete guys gonna turn me mad.

    Still waiting to shoot mine.

We’re going with travertine as well.

All these pool guys are swamped.

yep, we’re at the 130/45 split east of costco. our builder has 3 other pools going in right now in our hood. 1 ahead of us and 2 behind us.

I'm getting plastered this week (yes and yes)... design/dig/gunite were super fast for me... then sloooooow... motion set in with tile/decking/finish/ etc... lots of work, add in weather and COVID and long process. But can't wait for this week when pool is filled.

what type of plaster are y’all getting? we’re currently set to get quartzscapes in tahoe blue. we was at my bro’s up in dallas this weekend and they have pebbletec. my kids complained that it’s a bit rough. we’ll see how the quartz feels.

  15. been a month since we signed the contract and we’re still waiting for city of derkaville permits. our hoa won’t even review the plans until the permits are complete, so who knows when we’ll get this mofo started. in the month of waiting, we started back on the decking debate, and it’s looking likely that lady dirt will be getting her travertine. i never win, only try to postpone the inevitable long enough. in this case, permitting taking this long is what’s getting me. fml.

we also realized we had no fucking benches in the design, so we’ll have a call in with the builder tmrw to add a few. also going to have him remove the dedicated suction and polaris 280 cleaner. i’ll be going with a dolphin robot or similar.

Builder is old school.  And there's nothing wrong with that!  He's also buying his equipment not from pentair,  but from distribution.   This is true for 90% of poll builders in Texas.   He may also not realize his true cost on a 280 vs robotic.  He may also not be priced right on robotic.  Anyway, if you like him, his design and trust the company go for it.   The only thing I would stand firm on is the VS pump.

ended up going with jandy equipment including variable speed pump. 🤘🏽

signing the contract today. too much to hope for a late august swim?

    Nice pool buzz.
Does the salt jack with your stone deck??
So went to the tile store today, Crossville Tile, to pick out pool tile. Wife now wants travertine deck (fmw).
Does the tumbled travertine get slick when wet? How bout hotness in direct sun all day? Im still worried about the kids running and slipping.
Pool guy told us kooldeck (generic name?) was best option for heat and nonslip surface, but said travertine would be ok.

our builder brought over samples of the koolcote stamped overlay. it has a weird, shiny topcoat to it that makes it look wet at all times. that plus the $5k premium made it an instant no go. the travertine decking was a $7k premium, so no go on that either.

we debated over brushed concrete, salt finish concrete and koolcote knockdown textured. ultimately decided on koolcote for the reasons your pool guy gave you. we’ll be covering the existing patio with it as well.

It could. Did you put the AT&T router into bridge mode?

i don’t know a whole lot about it, but apparently the model gateway i have can’t be put in bridge mode only dmz+ mode or some such. so i followed some gateway specific instructions i found on at&t’s forums to do dmz and also turned off the wifi signals. guess i’ll grab me a new cable tmrw and see what happens.

at this point with as much time as i’m wasting, it’s probably diminishing returns. but goddammit i’m paying for it so i want to see it. as an aside, the next tier down is 300mbps at the same price as the gig service.

  18. new gateway is installed and orbi is connected. exactly zero change, so 300-350 from the orbi, 500s from gateway to orbi. i would think i’d be seeing much more from gateway to orbi. bc there’s no change with the replaced gateway, could it be as simple as needing a better cable?
