When was the last time an fbs coach was fired one game into a season?

I am thinking it has to be when Arkansas fired its head coach after losing the opener to The Citadel around 1990 or thereabouts.  But I am sure someone will correct me if it has happened since then.

Loose tiger lassoed on street in Mexican suburb

May 15 (UPI) -- A surprised witness on a street in Mexico captured video of the surreal moment a loose tiger was lassoed by a man wearing a cowboy hat.

Footage filmed from the safely of a passing vehicle in a suburb of Guadalajara, Jalisco, shows the tiger walking loose down a sidewalk while three men chase the large animal.

One of the men, wearing a cowboy hat, manages to lasso the tiger, which then pulls the man out of the video's frame.

Authorities confirmed they received witness reports about the loose tiger and its pursuers, but the big cat and the men were gone from the area by the time they arrived.

Reports indicated the tiger may have escaped from a private residence in the area, but authorities have not identified the animal's owner or any of the men seen in the video.

Also, if you don't love you an occasional pot of Kraft mac n cheese with some hotdog cut up in it, you are a commie who hates America.

In college I would cut up some Earl Campbell hot links to put in my Kraft mac n cheese.   I think the grease added some extra flavor.

  4. SIAP, but Patterson is using this down time because of the pandemic to become a songwriter.

Between video conferencing with players and staff, furiously planning for a multitude of possible college football scenarios, spending time with family, and helping in his community, TCU coach Gary Patterson is staying as busy as ever during this period of social distancing.

With practices and workouts on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, Patterson is using his rare downtime to chase a dream: making music. He said he is working with a recording artist to make an album.

"I used to write music when I was younger," Patterson said Tuesday during a video conference call with reporters. "I actually sent somebody some of my music, and somebody's going to record it."

Patterson won't say whom he is working with or divulge many details -- "I'm not letting somebody steal my music," he joked -- but he noted that the process is moving along well. He estimated that he has written about 15 songs over the course of 30 years, and some of the lyrics have been updated with some help.

"I've always wanted to be able to do it," he said. "They've already been in the studio, they've already put it on tracks, and we're going forward. That's something that I never thought I'd get to do because I always stayed so busy."

Added Patterson: "You might be really surprised when we get done with this. The guy that helped [rewrite] it, he put it in the modern age. If it hits No. 1, I'm gonna make all you guys all go out to some country place, and you're all going to have to dance to it."

Aside from his passion project, Patterson remains optimistic about the possibility of the football season occurring in some form or fashion. He said he has made multiple plans for different scenarios of how many practices his team might have during an altered training camp and has discussed countless possibilities for safety measures when his team is allowed to resume workouts, including staggering weight room sessions for groups of 10 or fewer at a time and having players not

sit next to one another during meals.

He repeatedly stressed that he and his coaching counterparts will have to rely upon "the higher-ups" -- government officials and health experts -- to give them the green light to ensure that players and students are safe.

"I think there will be [a season]," Patterson said. "I think my optimism is very high. That's why I'm doing all the things I'm doing. At some point in time, whether it's fall or spring or it's shortened, whatever it is, we're talking about five, six, seven, eight different options. The closer we get to June 1, and people are starting to open things up more a little bit here in May, I think we're going to be able to make a lot better decision on what all that looks like. But right now, I think everything changes day to day."

In Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Monday that the state's stay-at-home order will expire at the end of the month, and some businesses will be able to reopen at 25% capacity on May 1 as part of a phased reopening of the state's economy.

Patterson said more testing is necessary to ensure that it's safe for players to resume team activities. He mentioned that he is likely to have an antibody test himself, possibly later this week.

"Do coaches and players need to get tested every day or every two days? There's just a lot of unknowns right now," he said. "Our doctors and our trainers, our chancellors, we're working on a plan of what that looks like, so if we do have an opportunity to do it, that we're able to do it safely."

One thing Patterson is certain of is that whenever football does resume, it will be different.

"We're finding out, whether it's sports or just on your own block, our lives have changed," he said.

He pondered that it could be fodder for another song.

"Some of it slowing down, to be honest with you, is for the better," he said. "Maybe I'll write a song about taking that deep breath, see what that looks like."

Is he already working on the lyrics?

"Yeah, I might," he said. "You guys will be the first ones to hear it. I'll do a Zoom call and get the guitar out."

Well where else would you eject from a fighter jet? Inside the hanger would probably be a bad place

As a resident of the coastal bend, I second this opinion.  What bbq there is down here is most definitely is not as good as what Champ was producing.

  7. SIAP somewhere else, but Lee Child is stepping back from the Jack Reacher series and handing it over to his younger brother.

The author of the Jack Reacher series of novels is retiring and handing over the writing duties to his brother, according to a report.

Lee Child said he has been searching for a way to kill off the title character, portrayed on film by Tom Cruise, for years but has ultimately decided his fans deserve to see him live on in books which will now be written by Andrew Grant.

But Child, who was born James Grant, has reportedly set out a condition for his brother: he too must change his surname to Child.

“For years I thought about different ways of killing Reacher off. First of all, I thought he would go out in a blaze of bullets, something like the end of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. It would take an army to bring him down [but] Reacher had to have an afterlife after I was done,” Child told the Times.

Grant is an established author in his own right. “It’s not as if I twisted his arm into doing it. And he didn’t twist mine either. It just happened. It feels like a natural development. My brother is a good writer. Now he has a hero,” Child said.

He added: “Readers don’t need to know about me or whoever writes the books. They only really care about Reacher. And I know he’s now in safe hands.”

Child has sold more than 100m books since embarking on a career as a novelist relatively late in life at 40. Jack Reacher has been turned into a film and is also reportedly being made into a series for Amazon’s Prime service.

According to the Times’ report, the cover of the next Reacher novel – in a series which is published by an imprint of Random Penguin House – will read: “Lee Child with Andrew Child”, in what has been interpreted as a possible sign of the publishing company’s nerves.

  8. Headed up there for the Texas/Purdue basketball game.  Anything worthwhile near Purdue?  Going with a couple of Purdue alums, so I imagine I will be dragged to their old college haunts, but in case I get a chance to get away, any recommendations on bars and/or restaurants would be appreciated.

Staying in downtown Lafayette near the river.

  9. I guess aggy is now in charge of the local MS Society chapter, as the route for the 2020 ride is out and the new finish is in College Station at Kyle Field.  I thought the ride could not get any worse after the last two rides finishing at COTA, but the MS Society has decided to see if they can make the ride even worse.  I am questioning if I even want to continue to do this ride any longer.
