This should make the young people happy.

Older Americans now have twice as many sexually transmitted infections (STI) when compared to a decade ago, a new study has found.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the rates of STIs in adults aged 55 and older have doubled over the past decade.

"Rising divorce rates, forgoing condoms as there is no risk of pregnancy, the availability of drugs for sexual dysfunction, the large number of older adults living together in retirement communities, and the increased use of dating apps are likely to have contributed to the growing incidence of STIs in the over 50s", Justyna Kowalska, who is presenting the research, said in a statement.

"These data likely underestimate the true extent of the problem, as limited access to sexual health services for the over 50s, and trying to avoid the stigma and embarrassment both on the part of older people and healthcare professionals, is leading to this age group not seeking help for STIs."

For example, gonorrhea cases rose from 15 per 100,000 people in 2015, to 57 per 100,000 in 2019.

Gotta be fake news.  Post-menopausal women don’t have sex.  Ask my wife.

This is the answer, especially in tejano music.  Can’t stand it.  It’s just one song that is played over and over, right?

  3. I agree with much of what's posted so far--especially the impact of social media on our youth.  There's also the issue of news reporting in general which finds its way into social media.  The book Factfulness, by the late Hans Rosling (a retired MD from Sweden and a social democrat) and his son and daughter-in-law gives a good explanation of how news is reported and how people get a grossly incorrect understanding of the human condition on very important issues, such as world health, women's education, the levels of poverty around the world, etc.

In addition, having co-raised two daughters, now almost 33 and 30, and seeing how they and their friends navigated high school and the somewhat early days of social media, I observed that their generation and those younger lived in a world of superlatives.  "Awesome" was used in every sentence.  If some high level of achievement wasn't reached it seemed like the endeavor was a failure.  Everything--vacations, college admissions, first job, etc. had to be the best or it was a disappointment.  Sadly, many of my girls' peers were disappointed a lot.  And getting back to social media, people report on the highlights of their lives so the disappointment hits home.

That seems a little surprising, to be honest, but UT has a way of fucking up admissions.

Wait, the kids are pulling against UT or the parents?  I'd tell my kid "good luck" and then to pound sand for a couple of hours.

No, the parents that are UT exes.  Still pissed their kids didn’t get into UT.

  5. I ended up buying a Eufy system.  It’s another app but Eyeon wanted to sell me cameras and equipment at $325 plus another $20 per month in Cloud storage.  The Eufy system stores the videos on a local card that can store 3 months of videos which is more than I need.  So long as my internet is up (it rarely goes down) I can access the videos from my iPhone anywhere that I get an internet connection.  No monthly fees.  If I don’t like it I have 30 days to return it with Amazon.

  6. A friend who lives on the lake tells me IMG_0106.thumb.png.a55ed0054e113883bbc470a586d2aa5a.pngthat part of the problem is that LCRA generates a lot power from the dam.  So that’s where some of the water goes.  I looked briefly for some historical discharge data and I only found this screenshot:

Well, I've decided that it's time to buy a helmet (enough brain damage already, thankyouverymuch... it's why I'm on the Surl).

Getting to be the end of the season, so there should be some decent options on closeout and such- any recommendations or things I should keep in mind (MIPS is mandatory, according to the Mrs.)?

I will consider one of these when my Giro wears out.  It’s supposed to be even safer than a traditional shell helmet.  But my Giro has served me well.

  8. I have an existing alarm system (with Eyeon Integrated Solutions--apparently a Houston-based provider).  It has a z-wave hub and uses Alarm.com which I can access with my iPhone.  It seems I can integrate other z-wave devices with the Alarm.com account.  I'm already paying for monitoring through Eyeon.  I am looking to add a Ring-type door bell/monitor and at least one outdoor security camera/motion sensor.  Is there any advice for using z-wave compatible devices and running them through the z-wave hub vs. going with a standalone system like Ring?

  9. Even when I was younger and had very good hearing I was one that never understood the lyrics of most songs.  Too much mumbling and other distractions in the music.  Lyrics matter a little but I judge a song by the melody and the artist.

Yeah, my daughter noted yesterday in a discussion on family genetics that our French ancestry (remember, my mom was a coonass) was specifically Parisian.  La-de-da.  I am quite fancy.

Of course, last night, going through a bunch of stuff, I found out that a GGG uncle of mine was big-shit in Mexico back in the day.  He was born in Texas in the early 1800s (that's right, "Coahuila y Tejas" was the state back then).  Ended up being Mexico's ambassador to France trying to talk them out of their Maximilian bullshit (didn't work, obviously).  And lots of other notable offices.  But, to confirm that he was indeed a member of our family, he "died penniless."  Yep, the bloodline checks out.

My mother was born in Louisiana and is 1/2 French on her mother’s side.  We always thought she was half coonass but when we did a family tree several years ago we learned that the ancestors were indeed French, but they came to New Orleans well before the Cajuns arrived from Nova Scotia.

Dunno about recency, but I am always suspicious of tests that slam results neatly inside modern national boundaries. To put it another way, lots of common elements went into the mix of modern groups. Ancient Roman colonies were all up and down the Rhine, with Germanic tribes clustered up next to them before later settling in Italy and elsewhere. I have read that Hesse comes from the name of the Germanic Chatti (Latin word for them, ) they weren't complete strangers.

Or maybe somebody adopted an Italian orphan.

No doubt there are a bazillion long-term Germans who read genetically as more like Danes or French or Italians or Poles.

At least in my case, with 23 and me, it categorizes my ancestry with various locations in Europe—some of which are very specific locations.  It uses modern geographical boundaries which may or may not reflect the actual genetic makeup of the country as a whole.  In my case, from my father’s side, my genetics come from a very small area in Poland near the German border.  I could actually be more German than Polish.

Regarding sex drives, it does drop. And also , the walls are thinner or something because sex hurts some for a lot of us. Lube up and really focus on her clit. Once she gets super worked up, you can see from there if that eases her pain enough for penetration. But hurting so good can be fun, with a generous lover. If she is shutting you down a lot, this could be why. Offer back messages with lots of oils and enjoy touching her with no goal in mind. This is the kind of thoughtful behavior that makes her want to try. Most women don't want to give up on intimacy and sex. Focus on being intimate and patient and this will go a long way.

In my wife’s case, her sex drive dropped like a rock and it’s stayed there.  When sex happens it’s extremely painful for her and we’ve tried several supposedly high quality and expensive lubes.  I’ve tried the back rub and massage thing and that just relaxes her to the point of wanting to go to sleep.  Guys, get your sex in before your wife goes through this, or get a new wife it’s that important to you.  I’m of the “for better or worse” camp so no divorce.

  13. Finished my last day of skiing in Snowmass today.  Back to Houston tomorrow.  Seven days of skiing and some of the best conditions I’ve ever skied.
