It wasn’t even at an intersection. I forget the road in SW Austin but it was not a small two lane road. I came across the same thing in Houston a month or so ago. The bus was probably 50 yards or more from my lane. I was lucky to see it. I stopped but no one else on my side of the median did. So a bus stop can be in the middle of a busy street, drop kids off and kids can jay walk across a lane, then a median, then two more lanes—all not at a cross walk/red light? Whether it’s a legit bus stop or not, it’s extremely dangerous because many drivers just don’t notice something so far away from their own lane.

Took the day off today in Snowmass. Good thing. Several lifts were intermittently closed due to high winds. The last three days were fabulous. It’s snowing now and we could get 2 feet tonight and tomorrow. Next week should be good but it will be hard to beat the blue bird days this week.

If you drive past a stopped school bus while they're picking up kids / letting them off, I know you're not my people.
In Austin they send you a $300 ticket in the mail. It happened to my daughter. In her defense, it was a four lane divided road with a wide median. She was in the far right lane and the school bus was three lanes away across the median going the other way. She never saw it that far away. It was all on video.

Aux arms, Citoyens! Armez vos battalliions! Marchez, marchez, qu’un sang impur, abbreuve nos sillons!’Every scene in Casablanca could be in this thread. The ending; here are your winnings; I thought I told you never to play that; I was with them when they blundered into Berlin; I stick my neck out for nobody; you’re lucky the bar’s open to you; you’re getting to be your best customer; I said 22; of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world; we’ll get drunk and go fishing. The list goes on.

So the date on screen in this scene is October 17th, 1943 so we're about 2 months from the first batch of Merlin powered P51 long range escorts showing up. Really looking forward to some kick ass CGI dogfighting.
This. After fighter escorts could be employed all the way to the target, the casualty rates improved dramatically.

Slightly related; slightly off-topic question. Does UT have any Tom Landry related honors like a statue or anything on campus? As an alum and lifelong (don't judge me) Cowboy fan, I actually didn't even know Landry attended UT until I read his autobiography. Sports aside, he accomplished quite a lot in WWII as a B-17 pilot.
I was UT in the early 80’s and I was a huge Cowboy fan then. It was well known among the frat brothers that Landry was a Texas Ex. He was a DKE and a Texas Cowboy. And, yes, he was branded.

Something else that I didn't catch while watching. And, I don't think it's made the 40+ list of stupidity or plot holes over the last 3 pages. We knew Annie was killed by the group of scientists; however, the Eskimo Mafia did not know this. Why did they go after the entire crew?
Obligatory: Eskimo is not the proper nomenclature.

Get an Old Forester 100 proof.
I prefer it over the EW BiB and it’s just as cheap. Finally replaced one of my daily drinkers with the OF 100. It’s around $48 for a 1.5L vs. around $28 for the Evan Williams BIB. It is noticeably better and it’s only another $20. With my simple taste that says something. Thanks for the rec.

Do any of the Austin HEBs have whole green chiles? They have shelves of different brand of diced, but not a single damn whole green chile can. I cannot support the institution until my store starts carrying whole ones.
Same at San Felipe HEB in Houston.

How did the aerial gunners not shoot down the other bombers? The way that they were swinging their guns around it is unlikely that they were paying attention to what was beyond their immediate targets.
I thought the same thing. Seemed like total chaos for the gunners.

I had problems with ML (Bank of America) in dealing with my father’s estate’s accounts. ML has lawyers based NY that review these matters and they are not cooperative and they look for ways to hold things up. It took us about a year to get things sorted out.

Lately I have mainly been using sous vide to reheat things-especially BBQ.
I used to do steaks sous vide quite often but it seemed like the middle of the steak was never warm enough. I typically would go 135-137 for at least two hours and more if the steak was frozen. The texture of the steak is normal for the high end of medium rare. I sear the steak several ways such as grilling on very high heat, cast iron and a torch. No matter, it seems like the middle of the steak is rather cool. I never do a cool water bath. Anyone else have this problem? I can get a medium rare steak at a Pappas Bros. or other good steak house and the middle is always very warm.

I’ve always wanted to do the train ride from Vancouver to Lake Louise and then on to Banff. A Canadian client of mine said it is spectacular.

I love the Centurion Club. Very good food for what it is. Good bar. That why I keep my Platinum Card.

Yes, and women mostly wrote the screenplay and I believe women direct it as well. NTTAWWT.

I have tested positive once, but my wife and kids have not. Fever is our main criterion for testing.
Same here for me and my wife. My adult daughters have had it a few times with no serious symptoms. I live with constant allergies so I only test if I get a fever. My last and only booster was November 2021 and I got Covid in June 2022 and I’ve been in close contact with many contagious people at numerous events since then. I’ve been Covid free since June 2022.

Your wife doesn’t like the thought of windows sleeping around
Probably so. She just doesn’t grasp the tough times that most of Europe experienced in the late 30’s-early 40’s.
I love the scenes showing the bravery of the Belgian and French women in smuggling our guys to Spain. Too bad the French leaders of the 30’s didn’t have their fortitude.- 2

So my wife sees the Polish girl and immediately assumed she was a prostitute. As she left the hotel (?) room she assumed that Egan paid her and they just didn’t show it.

Actually, according to this lawyer. I should have disputed the ticket.

Drivers across a median do not have to stop.
