Well season 2 is gonna jump 4 years forward so not sure them being surprised or perhaps even around will be part of the plot.

Season 2 is supposed to start a year after the events of season 1.

How do you fire someone without a contract? Click turned down offer and they parted ways. I really dont get the Crane hate on Twitter from a lot of the blue checks. Buy your own team and run it the way you want if you have a problem.

I’m no huge fan of Click, and I think Crane has earned the benefit of the doubt in my eyes, but this is a bit much.

Fans have a right to criticize.  McLane got well-deserved criticism.  The McNairs get it.  Bud Adams definitely got it.  No one needs to own a team to have an opinion.

Crane deserves criticism if he has no plan in place and this move ultimately hurts the franchise.  Again, though, his run of success gives him the benefit of the doubt for now in my book.

  3. Three quick thoughts…

    1. Love to all of you in this thread.  Living in SA, it’s not always easy to keep up with the ups and downs of the long season… but I made it a point to check the thread every day all summer.  What a ride.

    2. Obviously he’s not everyone’s favorite and even Crane doesn’t seem to see totally eye-to-eye with him, but props to Click for building this bullpen.  It’s a totally different experience to go through a postseason with that kind of a bullpen.  I can get used to it.

    3. Avenging ‘80 was great.  I’ll be greedy and say let’s avenge ‘86 for the repeat next year.  F the Mets.

I think he runs out of steam by and end of the season and I also think his lack of a great breaking ball hurts him in the playoffs.  If his control isn't on point, he gets in to trouble when he can't throw high fastballs where he wants them.

Wasn’t there also the whistling thing back in the 2019 series against Washington?

Seems like he allows stuff to get into his head and things go off the rails.

He might be able to learn a thing or two from Framber about overcoming it.

I was there during most of building that losing record. Not from the very start, but from the late '60s on. It often felt like trying to summit the Matterhorn on skates. To have the run we're on these days seemed unthinkable not so long ago. Another title of course would be awesome, but in the bigger picture of things, I'm just glad I got to see the surge.

    Respect.

Before you posted I was thinking that we've been pretty good for as long as i can remember.

My first memories are of the '86 team.  Was there as an 8-year-old for Game 6.  F the Mets.

The '90s through 2007 or so were pretty good record-wise with the Biggio/Bagwell teams, obviously other than the 2000 season.

2010-2013 sucked but it's been fun ever since.  I think I saw we've had 21 winning seasons out of our last 30... and in one of those "bad" seasons (2020) we still made it to within one game of the World Series.

I think it will require playoffs.  At this point, there should be no question who the best option in CF is on the team.  Just like Yuli at 1B, they gave Jake every opportunity and he couldn't make it.  Chas isn't a superstar, but he's also not a JAG.  He's a quality MLB centerfielder.  That's good enough on this team.  Would we like to have more production from that position?  Of course, but we can't play who we don't have and Chas is the clear best option.  And I'm fine with that.

Not disagreeing with you at all, but lol at the thought of Dusty Baker, of all people, solely judging people on postseason success.

Correa earned every ounce of the Htown love affair Astros fans grew into with him and let's not forget that he took a lot of shit for his injuries over the years but goddamn he was a GREAT playoff producer and true clubhouse leader. He will always hold a place in my heart as the guy who told all the haters to shut the fuck up in the course of defending Jose Altuve. Correa deserves all the respect on that basis alone.

As a fan of the Astros teams that routinely came up short in the postseason in the ‘80s, ‘90s, and ‘00s, I respected the heck out of Correa’s playoff performances.

It also should mean something that he’s easily the best shortstop in franchise history.  Who else is really worth mentioning besides pre-injury Dickie Thon?

Was whining to my friend in Portland when she reminded me around this time last year they went
    108 6/26
    112 6/27
    116 6/28

What makes Texas heat so special is the knowledge that absolutely no relief is coming for at least another 10 weeks.

And even then, that “relief” will be a day with highs around 89°, followed by a few more weeks in the mid-90s.

I mean, yeah, instead of being in a position to draft in the top 5 each year and then have those players become all-stars on rookie contracts (and inheriting Altuve and Springer), he took over with no first or second round picks and all the best players reaching free agency. It’s impossible to compare Click and Lunhow.

Totally agree.  Building and maintaining are two different things.  Especially considering the way the Astros built.

Luhnow was obviously great at building, but unfortunately he never got the chance to maintain.  Maybe he would have been very good there too, but I don’t know that with any certainty.

Regardless, Click’s job is different from what Luhnow’s was.
