Everything went sideways when Colt got injured against Bama.

That’s how Mack portrayed it, and it would be interesting to see how the rest of that game (and 2010) played out had Colt not gotten hurt… but under the surface it was already a program in decline.

The OL recruiting/development had already fallen off a cliff and the RB corps that year was pretty mediocre.

Colt, Shipley, and Muschamp’s defense carried that team.

maybe my sarcasm meter needs work but get ready for perpetual 5 or 6 win seasons.

how is this going to happen?  LSU, A&M, Ark are way ahead of UT right now.

In aggy’s last five years in the Big 12, they were:

    7-6

    4-8

    6-7

    9-4

    7-6

Their first year in the SEC, they went 11-2, and haven’t had a losing season since.

If those idiots can do it, so can we.

I really feel that  schools for ages 11 and under should have gone remote (or at least had a remote option) until the approval for that age range to get vaccinated comes through.   Given the time frame for things (getting all the kids who want it a shot, the two weeks for it take effect, then on to second dose and the next two weeks) I guess I would think the whole fall semester should have had that option.     Maybe that has happened in some places across the country, I don't know.   I just think we're going to be able to pull up lots of stories about schools and infections from any part of the nation very soon.  I should say "more" stories, since many are already coming out.

Yep.  And I largely am sympathetic toward the school boards and superintendents who are now on the front lines of this, without really having those options on the table.

The real vitriol should be directed at the legislature and TEA for not funding any kind of remote learning option, regardless of the state of the epidemic.

Lol at NE. It looks like vidpocalypse there. perhaps they should have chosen a different color for no data

Yep.  Color scheme takes a while to get used to.

And while we're on the subject of NE, check out those Sturgis numbers in western South Dakota.  Off the charts.

As of late last week Corpus was definitely not declining. Last week’s report was “new cases skyrocketing and hospitalizations skyrocketing.” R# was 1.25

New report comes out today so hopefully it’s better news.

Don't get me wrong, it's still high.  Crazy high.  Over 370 infections per 100k even now.  (Austin is at 161 per 100k, for comparison).

But the trend is hopeful.  It was 488/100k on Aug. 13.

  5. Per this covidestim link that I think someone here posted a few days ago, it seems like San Antonio and Corpus are on a nice decline (with surprisingly low R numbers) and Austin seems to have peaked within the last few days.

Dallas, Houston, and Waco are still on the incline in cases, but the R numbers are falling.

Fort Worth seems to be in the worst shape, as it's the only big city with R increasing.

  6. Yeah, my hat’s off to NHC for the way they handled Laura last year.

There were a lot of people pushing that track towards Beaumont or even farther west, but NHC stuck with Lake Charles and ended up splitting the uprights Justin Tucker-style.

  7. Thinking of making a first-ever trip to the McDonald Observatory this summer, but it looks like the Star Parties are basically sold out through late August.

They do have “Evening Sky Viewing” spots available, which seems to be the same thing minus the telescopes.

Any recommendations?  Are the Viewings worthwhile or should I just wait for Star Party slots to open up?

Yea, different strategies fo sho.  Houston's blowing it up, trading everyone they can and looking to gather assets whether it be draft picks, cap space, or younger, undervalued players.  It'll be interesting to see how each executes their different plans.

I get it, and as an Astros fan like Kermit I can definitely see how a total teardown can lead to an era of success, but put me down for the Spurs’ method 10 times out of 10 in the NBA.

Even being in a destination market and having tons of draft assets doesn’t necessarily result in titles (Boston and New York say hi), so I’ve come to the point where I’m thrilled the Spurs have opted for the “stay good and see what happens” model.
