  1. People like the underdog in most sports. Not golf. I don't know of anyone that's thinking "wouldn't it be awesome if Ted Potter, Jr won a major" other than his mother. The Ted Potter's of the world can have the Valspar and the like but the major's are for the stars of the game.

    Airport Selling Land

The city put out a call for bids for land on the west side of the airport. The portion closest to 183 would be aviation themed retail but the bulk of the land would be for some kind of cargo/plane operation that could support 8 cargo buildings, tons of truck docks and staging and 25-30 parked planes. That could be someone like Amazon that wants to start their own airline fleet and needs space for their planes and facility for managing cargo or Delta for maintaining a fleet of planes if they are expanding Austin service.  The key is that SOMEONE is interested in the land which is why it's out to the public.  The interested party could also be Fedex or UPS but I don't think the airport would move on this land unless it served the airport's development interest and having Delta take the land for plane maintenance would certainly fit that bill.

That is a very interesting tidbit, thanks for sharing. Will the source of the bids be disclosed before picking the winning bid? What's the time frame on selecting a bid?

  4. 76 at Bluebonnet from the "tips".  +4 after 9, a bladed pitching wedge cost me a couple strokes. Finished even par 36 on the back nine with a birdie on 18 to close it out.

Ya, it's just Bluebonnet but I care not - I'm damn pumped with a 76 anywhere. First time breaking 80 on a par 72 too. Also, work didn't catch me so that's a huge win.

  5. I'm not a fan of Crystal Falls either. So much gimmick going on from tee to green.  There are some quality holes but some are just downright comical (two mega downhill par 3's? That par 5 that squeezes down to like 10 yards wide in the layup area? Hole 16 and 17... and 18? That stupid giant tree on the water carry drive on hole 4 I think?). It's a lot better than it used to be but I'm with you, I won't play there unless it's on discount.

Apparently they are ripping up 14 of the holes and rerouting them. I'd be tempted to give them another shot after that. They keep that place in pretty damn good condition year round, I'll give them that. Fix the routing and some of the crazy greens and I think they could have a winner on their hands.

The flip to this is it's entirely possible they are rerouting 14 holes to make room for more houses out there which would put the nail in the coffin for me.

  6. My random rambling thoughts...

Will be interesting to see how Tiger and Jordan do. Neither are driving the ball particularly well, though Jordan righted some of those demons in Houston. Both are hitting exceptional iron shots. Both have hot putters, with Jordan's finally picking up the pace this past weekend.

Augusta never looks like a tough driving course but if you miss bad, it's real bad - you'll have no chance of getting yourself on the right side of the green to avoid a 3 putt or worse. Having a semi erratic but not off the grid driver may not hurt Tiger and Jordan as much as other weeks.

JT has seemingly dominated every course he's stepped foot on lately, as has Jon Rahm. Hard to bet against them. Justin Rose is a popular pick and for good reason. And then there is DJ avoiding stairs and Rory going for the slam...

Man, so many story lines. This is going to be an awesome Masters.

  7. Year 1 - mildly better than decent.

    Year 2 - dogshit

    Year 3 - decent

    I can concede that.

However... We aren't paying the 11th highest salary in the land to be decent. We aren't paying north of $3M a year to be ranked in the 30's in Pomeroy. We aren't donating to this damn athletics program to field a basketball team that has played in 2 NCAA tournament games in 3 years and lost them both. That shit is not the standard of fucking Texas A&M let alone here yet, here we are.

  8. I want him gone this year but Shaka will be our coach next year unless he takes some other job. CDC has been on campus less than one year,  the team lost their best player to cancer, a host of injuries/suspensions, and Shaka still got us to the tournament - given all that, the visual of firing him would deter a lot of potential candidates from the job.

However, a repeat of this year and he's deservedly toast. Even a minor improvement and he's toast.

  9. Best score - 73 at Star Ranch. I was even going into 18. I tried to get over the middle bunker in 2 with a 3 wood, ballooned it, wind killed it, fried egg in the bunker.  Chunked it out all of 5 yards. Wedge into green, miss left, another fried egg. At this point I'm thinking I'm about to post a 15. Thankfully I splash out, 2 putt for a 7, finish +2 on the day.

Best round - the final round of any of our golf trips where we play a scramble, everyone is getting hammered, yelling obscenities, and listening to gangster rap. It usually at Ram Rock or Apple Rock so the course is great on top of it all.

  10. It was good to see Yedlin back out there doing his thing. If he could manage his temper, he could go places but as it is, his temper gets him one yellow card a match and his persistent bitching at the refs puts the D out of position on a quick restart.  On that front, I was real impressed with Trapp - he's starting to remind me of MB10 back in the '10 WC. Nothing flashy, just smart, decisive, and won't fuck up. He covered Yedlin's spot a few times when Yedlin would push up the field and/or aforementioned excessive bitching.

A midfield with Trapp/McKennie as the backbone is pretty compelling. Also a backline with CCV, Miazga, Brooks is pretty compelling as well.

I wanted to see Antonee Robinson get some minutes.  He's the only other natural RB on the roster and I'm not sold on Villafana.

Also not sold on our front 3. Pulisic obviously but Wood has been out of form for a while and it showed last night. Johannsson is injured (again). Weah, Sargent are young and unproven at this level.

Win is a win, especially against any team from S. America.

After some research, I THINK I have figured out the issue.

My old clubs have a more upright lie.  By 0.5 degrees.  You wouldn't think that would matter, but from what I've read online it does.  And my range session confirms that (at least for me).

So, I think I will need some range time to figure out the new clubs.  Mostly, this should be accomplished by standing a little bit further from the ball.  Let's see if I can adjust to that.  I hate that feeling though (I like to be more "on top" of the ball with irons).  So, I'm going to get my swing checked out by a pro and get their opinion.  May end up having my lie angles adjusted.

I wouldn't mess with your swing too much if all it takes is bending clubs 0.5 degrees. That's a pretty easy thing to do especially with forged heads. Golf is so mental that you don't want to be thinking "I hate standing this far from the ball" the second before trying to stripe a 4 iron over water.

Unless you're in the middle of a swing overhaul anyways, I'd just shell out the $$ to get the clubs bent.

Okay, I snagged some 714 AP2s with Project X shafts yesterday off craigslist.  They are in great shape, and I'm super pumped.  Took them to the range, and they are taking some getting used to.  To avoid major mishits I have to stand a little further from the ball than I did with my other irons.  Other than my major swing flaws, is this usual?  Or do I just need to spend some time getting used to them?

What is your miss? Fat, thin, open, closed? Are they longer shaft lengths? Is the lie bent up or down? Maybe the head weight is significantly different from your old clubs and you have to take a more shallow plane to keep the club from bottoming out too early?
