Is traditional Halloween fading away versus what it was say 30 years ago?  We have young children and are starting to get into that phase of life.  A few observations.

    1. There are a lot of events we are invited to that are "safe spaces" for trick or treating.
    • Our church threw a "Trunk or Treat" where families from the church decorated the trunks of their cars and parked side by side in the parking lot.  There were maybe 75+ cars this year and no less than 500+ kids.
    • Our daycare facility held a "Trick of Treat" event at the daycare.  We did not go.
    • Our City hosted a "Spooky Square" event where businesses and households line up around the old town square to hand out candy and toys.
    • We've been invited to half a dozen other, similar events through family and friends.
    1. There are a lot less houses in general that are participating in Halloween.  On our street maybe three of the 25+ houses have their lights on and hand our candy.  As a result, we don't get many people coming through.  There's one stretch in our subdivision - just one - where the neighbors are older and have come together to activate that stretch of 20 or so homes, i.e. everyone is committed to lights on, music on, decorating, and so forth.  So that tends to get any traffic.
    2. Weather seems to be increasingly an issue.  Looks like it will be mid-40s and rainy this year.  I understand as a parent opting for other events, which have weather contingency plans baked in, to get that Halloween fix for the kids.

I don't remember this when I was younger.  Change in society / culture?  Or just now observing what has always been the case?

If our neighborhood is any indication, trick or treating door-to-door is stronger than ever. Kajillions of kids walking around each year, parents having a great time, decorations everywhere. Honestly I love Halloween -- the one time of year we tell kids to go knock on stranger's doors, because good things are going to happen. Bring it on.

Holy shit indeed. They fucked up a nerve in his back removing that human he scrote-birthed … he’s now paralyzed and trying to relearn to walk.

He recovered enough to become a DoorDash driver. Did some reaction videos under the name Dan S. Delivery and played in some poker tournaments. Someone posted on one of his Facebook pages "RIP" in April but I can't confirm that. His last post on his most active page was in April.

    Texas v Missouri 1996 is the all-timer

Exactly what I was thinking. Mizzou punted from deep in their own territory when the storm was blowing in and the ball maybe went 15 yards because the wind and rain were so intense. Later Ricky Williams carried some poor Mizzou player into the end zone a la Earl vs SMU, which seemed to be a fitting metaphor for the game itself.

  4. The issue isn't if Salt Lick is tolerable, or if it's better than out-of-state bbq. It definitely is. The issue is that there are many other options for better bbq. You don't have to stand in line for Franklin's, but you don't have to settle for shitty Salt Lick either. The first few replies to the question gave a great list of options.

Matt's, on the other hand, is a fucking treasure and shouldn't be missed.

In the slow mo there is surely an argument to be made that the runner gained enough for a first down. However, this is the first time I’ve seen it at live speed (daughter basketball tournament) and it’s also easy to see where the spot came from at live game speed. It was a bang bang play as much as a spot can be. If he gained the line it was for a split second before he was turned back. If someone wants to argue it should have been reviewed then I think that’s a a valid argument but the initial game speed call was not as egregious as it is being made out to be. See 8:06 in the video below

I could give two shits about the spot on that play. We never saw a definitive angle. What we did see, definitively, was Barryn Sorrel get choked and damn near decapitated at 6:42, and nobody on tv said shit about it.
