I'd be willing to bet that ole Baker Mayfield had an impact on Wilson also. It's not lost on me that the bitter QB from Wilson's own HS who had to go out of state to get a real shot got drafted #1 overall just days before Wilson decided to....go out of state.

Is Wilson walking on as well?

I like the Frost hire, but that particular accolade seems misplaced considering the offensive style.  The first time we lose a game where they fail to convert on a 1st and goal, with all of the plays being run out of the shotgun, the fan base is going to lose their shit.  You'll be able to play bingo with the message board criticisms at that point with "that offense won't work in Lincoln" having the center square.  I'm a Husker fan, but we, like Texas and ISU, have our share of idiot fans.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Seriously. We get this guy, and a large part of our offensive problems are solved. Jordan Shipley gave us an automatic 5 yards similar to a game changing running back with a shitty oline. I think the McCaffrey and Harvin comparisons are within reason, but the guy has what it takes irregardless of competition level, and anyone can see that in his tape. I think some WRs are attracted to UT, because they see Rising and the kind of ball he throws and they envision receiving TD passes from him in games that matter.

Helpful hint:  people will think you are smarter if you stop using the word "irregardless."

  4. We’ve received 2 (two) graduation announcements this year after receiving dozens and dozens every year for the past 10 years. One is from the daughter of a guy who put in countless hours coaching my now-20 y.o. daughter’s soccer team, and one from a cousin’s kid who - like her parents - would hardly say two words to us at family gatherings (big time Dem ideologues who take their political beliefs waaaay too seriously).

I’d rather pay for the friend’s daughter’s college tuition than send the cousin’s spoiled brat a card

It’s great having kids who have graduated and who didn’t pal around with younger friends. And, most of our friends happen to have kids who have already graduated.

  5. Laredo Martin and Laredo Nixon were a pleasant experience. As the visiting team, our buses (including the band and pep/drill/cheer) had to have uniforms, instrument cases, or anything else handy placed against the windows to protect against the rocks being thrown.

Everything in Olympia is casual. My wife loves Wagner’s for breakfast and in the downtown area. In Seattle I like Lowell’s. It’s touristy but good and during the week really not too crowded.

I screwed up and spelled it Olympia N.P.  We won't be in Olympia early enough in the morning to eat breakfast, as the house we're renting is north of downtown.  Lowell's might work out, though.  Thanks.

Went to Victoria two summers ago. Like previously said, it is the shit.

For breakfast, hit up Floyd’s. The hash plate is like 3 lbs of food. Red Fish Blue Fish down in the harbor has the best fried fish I’ve ever eaten.

The mammoth exhibit at the BC museum is cool. Plenty of good hiking with insane views. With kids, Avatar Grove was awesome. Easy hike/climb around giant trees. It’s a bit of a drive from town. Whale watching is good. We saw both orcas and humpbacks breaching when we did our tour.

Excellent.  Do you need to go out on a charter to get decent whale watching?  If so, any advice would be greatly appreciated.  The reason I asked is that when we were on The Big Island, we took a whale watching charter out of Kona which was nice, but I really enjoyed viewing with binoculars from bluffs up the coast because the whales were putting on quite a show.  It was also the time of day because there was too much glare off the water on our charter, and you can guess which side of the boat the whales were on.

We like Portage Bay Cafe. There's 4 locations sprinkled around town. Wife always gets the Dungeness crabs Benedict.  Also enjoy Lowell's at Pike Place. Wonderful view of the Sound if you go to the upper floors.

Thanks for the recommendations.  Both places look good.  My daughter takes pride in her Swedish pancakes with lingonberry compote, but they aren't made with organic rice and tapioca flour like the ones on the Portage Bay menu.  I could almost order for her right now because I know that's what she'll want to try.

  9. My wife and one of our daughters are Seattle bound later this month.  Thanks to everyone for the tips.  Toulouse Petit sounds like a place we'd like for a weekday breakfast, but does anyone know how far in advance we'd have to make a reservation?  We always liked to go to Doidge's Cafe (R.I.P.) in San Francisco for breakfast, but it got to the point that we'd need a two week advance notice to get a reservation that wasn't super early in the morning.  We usually didn't have that much lead time.

Does anyone have optional breakfast suggestions?  I appreciate a good breakfast joint, mostly because the really good ones are not a dime-a-dozen.  It doesn't have to be snooty.  In fact, we prefer casual.

We are actually spending more time in Olympia N.P. and Victoria, B.C. than Seattle, but we'll be in Seattle for a couple of days.

    Damn, that is harsh.

By the way, I'm pissed at whichever one of you fuckers ratted me out. I went to get Mother's Day greeting card photos yesterday and about 1/3 of the cards were wrapped in plastic. So I can't get a photo of the inside and the photos of the outside were too glarey.
I should have known not to trust a surly bunch of assholes - I mean I only text the best greeting cards, not those cheep ones

Brilliant!  I dropped $4.99 + tax on a MD card for my wife, only to have my daughter inform me that Dollar Store sells 2 cards for $1. Now, I have to incur the cost of driving to store 1 to return that card, then drive to Dollar Store.

I could just snap a pic of the card I bought, but I’d still have to return it.

    I beg to differ sir...

Haven't been to AK, HI, WA, OR, ID, MT, UT, WY, ND, SD, MI, NC, SC. So, 13 out of 50. AK and WY are the only ones I have any real desire to go to. Wouldn't mind Portland or Seattle either on a West Coast trip.

On which statement do we differ?  The five start resorts part, or the guests of royalty part?  Perhaps it's the "or" part.  Before you answer, remember, we are no longer the Shaggy elite.

Been everywhere but North Dakota, Minnesota(airport layover but to me that doesn't count) and Pennsylvania. Will get to Philly sometime, Minnesota eh, North Dakota is gonna be the tough one to find a reason to visit.

If you like the outdoors, northern Minnesota and the Boundary Waters area is really nice.  Lakes are everywhere, so it's a great area to boat, canoe, fish (large variety of species), camp (primitive), view wildlife (moose, wolves), but bring your mosquito spray.  The roads don't go much past Ely, so from there you have to fly in or take a boat.  Eventually it's canoes.  My cousin owned a rental lodge on Lake Superior about an hour from Duluth.  That whole area is very nice for 6 months of the year.  A friend's family owns an island on a lake in northern Minnesota, complete with the former vacation home of the Maytag founders.  It may have been a former corporate retreat.  They have a family and friends outing there every summer.  Minneapolis-St. Paul is one of the nicest metropolitan areas in the country, but I can't say there is a reason to visit there rather than any of the dozen other nice metropolitan areas.  Taking in a Twins game is fun, especially since they moved downtown.  I saw Harmon Killebrew hit his 500th HR at the old Metropolitan Stadium (home of both the Twins and Vikings) at my first MLB game back in 1971, and my first Astros game (vs the Pirates) was the only game rained out in Astrodome history.  /csb

Everything is better in Austin, right?

I actually found the weather in SA better than Dallas or Austin.  SA doesn't get 100+ temps day after day over the summer.  They'll get more humidity but it's not Houston, which has the worst weather in my opinion.  I'm not saying any of the markets has great weather but I'd actually take SA's over the others.  I actually thought Dallas was the hottest.  Not enough humidity to keep the temps down but still enough to give you a 115 degree heat index.

I remember Jud Ashmore saying one night in the mid-70s that that day was San Antonio's first 100 degree day in over 3 years.  It's funny what you remember.  Does anyone know if ol' Jud is still alive?  Last I heard a few years ago, he was still active in his 90s.

My dad always said the main thing he missed was the Gulf breeze that often made it to San Antonio, but never Austin.  He didn't like San Antonio as much as Austin, but he was one of those Austinites who loved the thought of being Texan, but didn't appreciate the rest of Texas.  As for me, I lived in Dallas for almost a decade, and there were stretches of weeks when if the overnight low broke 80, it was considered pleasant.  San Antonio can be damn hot, but not as hot as Dallas or as humid as Houston.  Austin seems to have a little bit more of both than San Antonio.

My first reaction when reading the OP was his comment about other Texans hating on San Antonio.  The fact that I've lived in San Antonio, Austin and Dallas comes up from time to time around people from other states.  I get the most positive comments about San Antonio, and it's not even close.  Austin is a very distant second, and Dallas and Houston don't even register.

I guess don't speak to many Californians.
