Every time I turn around there's another disaster that needs funding.  I feel for those people, but man... I'm tapped out.

Not every cause is for everybody.  Even if you are moved by the cause the time might not be right for you.  Give generously when you can, but don't feel guilty if the time is not right.

  2. @Baboontyme any updates?  News footage of people sleeping on the floor at the airport in Maui surrounded by water bottles and mountain dew cans.  I didn't see any Michigan State green so I am hoping you and the family got on your flights to Arizona.

  3. I'm sure things are chaotic there, but is there anybody local or who otherwise has access to cash that you could VENMO some money so they can give you some cash?

Dude, good luck.  We stayed at the Honua Kai 5 or 6 years ago.  Glad y'all are safe!!

Just bought a new 4runner. FWIW, the people I talked to at the dealership didn't really know shit about the 4runner update timing, but speculated 2025 model year with a release in late 2024, which aligns with the linked article. I will probably go wait list on day 1 of the release.  One of these in lunar rock please.

How would I get on this waitlist?  I've heard of people doing it for the Bronco, Corvette, etc. but I'm not sure what the process is.  Seems like a no-brainer for the new 4Runner.

We did Tahoe back in 2019. Played Edgewood the Monday before the celebrity tourney. Lots of fun.

    is Northstar by the Ritz?

Tried to get on Martis Camp. No dice.

Loved Edgewood, we were there a week or so after the tournament.  It was, surprisingly, a bit congested (waited on most holes, a couple of groups on some of the par 3s)

Yes, The Ritz is at Northstar.  We stayed in a VRBO at Shaffer's Mill, just north of Martis Camp.  The Shaffer's Mill course was having a member/guest the day we had open so we were shut out.

That whole area is beautiful.  We'll definitely go back at some point.

  6. Thanks, I think I may pull the trigger on those to at least update the clubs while getting my swing in order. I'll be checking in on this thread more regularly moving forward.

We played at Edgewood in Tahoe last week.  My best shot of the round was on the par 3 along the lake.  Put it within 4 feet and sank the birdie put.  Here is a photo of the sunset just before my tee shot and one of the little guy hitting one down the middle at Northstar later in the week.

  8. Thanks to everyone for the thoughts.  I am in NTX, I'll check out Dallas Golf.  From a quick glance they show shafts described as 'Stiff', 'Flex', 'Senior' (I'm 52) and of course 'Stiff Flex'.  Steel or Graphite also.

WTF.  For a golfer like me, what would be best?  Please advise me on my shaft. 😄

  9. Question for the group.  I am a terrible, infrequent and inconsistent golfer.  Have probably played 20-25 rounds of golf in total over the course of the last 30 years.  My youngest (10 year old) has been taking lessons / playing in some junior tournaments, etc. over the last couple of years.  As a result, I have started swinging the sticks a bit more frequently.  My clubs are a mish-mash of some old Wilson cavity back irons with some Callaway Irons mixed in.  A Big Bertha driver that's probably 15 years old and a could fairway woods that came with the Wilson iron set from 30 year ago.

My question is related to getting new clubs.  Should I spend some money on new clubs or work on getting my swing more consistent and then go for some sort of club fitting?  I'm afraid if I got new clubs now that they might not be as "right" for me if my swing gets corrected and is significantly different than my swing when I buy the clubs.

I'm not looking to forego retirement for clubs but don't mind putting some money into it if it will really make a difference.

    Thoughts?

Most people don't understand how insanely hard it is to transfer Twitter or YouTube or whatever subs into consistent paying Patreon patrons. You need something that people are so passionate about they're willing to pay every month for it and you have to keep them happy with whatever you're offering or they'll bounce.

I would be very impressed if they could maintain a core patron list of 500 to 1000 at $5 a month with their limited market and the disadvantages they have with the market offering several free alternatives that are more easily accessible.

Saying again I don't really know how this works, but if this is to be taken at face value the TC & Jake "It's just banter" has 892 monthly subscribers and generates $4k/month.

I would think Hang Zone could get to 20k subscribers given some time but no idea how "sticky" those subscribers would be.  I don't even know that I would need a 5 days a week kind of thing to feel like I'm getting value.  Honestly, if they dropped a couple of 1-2 hour podcasts a week I think I could justify $5/month.  I could then listen when I want.  If it was something I was enjoying, I'd likely stick with it.  How many things do I waste $5 a month on that don't give me 5-10 hours of entertainment a month?

I will say they should get this going ASAFP, memories are short and people will get distracted and be less likely to subscribe / "support" them in 3 - 6 months.

Motivating someone to click that "pay" button is the big hurdle and the leap of faith they have just taken.

  11. In the video Dan seemed very at peace while Jake was full of heavy sighs, etc.

I hope things work out for them.  I don't know the economics of podcasting or Patreon but it seems like there's a path there.  20k subscribers @$5/month probably puts them around $400-$500k each after production costs.  Now how likely they are to hit those numbers, I have no idea.

Maybe Dan will do a rollplay OnlyFans. ha ha

We were Island hopping in Greece for a week and then flew to Florence last Thursday.  I took a train to Rome last Friday and flew out on Sunday (which was a clusterfuck shit show bc Newark cancelled all westbound flights Sunday evening -- Newark Airport was like Thunderdome it was fucking horrible -- I somehow made the last flight out to Austin but ended up getting in at 4 in the morning Sunday it fucking sucked) but my wife and the children stayed in Florence with some other moms and kids.

Wife and kids are supposed to fly out of Rome Saturday but there's a fucking strike at the airport.  United is telling them they can still leave if they leave earlier Saturday (strike doesn't start until late morning) but wants to put them on Turkish Air to Istanbul then connect to Chicago then to Austin.  My question for this esteemed group -- any experience with Turkish Air?  The internet tells me it's safe (much safer as of a few years ago) but i'm skittish.  I'm also concerned about them being stuck in Istanbul without me if they somehow miss their connection.  Are my concerns valid?  Is Istanbul not a place you'd want your wife and kids to be stranded?  Am I just a racist paranoid asshole?

Turkish Air and new Istanbul airport are fine.  Agreed, you probably don't want the wife and kids roaming the city alone but the secured area of the airport should be no problem.

  13. We were there in March of this year for the first time in probably 40 years.  It certainly has its charms.

If you go, you damn well better have a hat similar to this or buy one as soon as you get there.  I swear to God 80% of the adult males I saw walking through neighborhoods, etc. were wearing one.  Leather coat with fringe and bolo tie are optional.

Ski Santa Fe would be great for day trips.  Golf (if that is appealing) probably mid-April through October or early November.  Lots of festivals, etc. but several are cowboy/southwestern adjacent.

They have an Allsups if you need your burrito fix.
