Definitely. $300 is probably more realistic. Although sometimes deals can be had through an airlines “vacation” portal when you book air/hotel together. I think the cheapest for London that I’ve seen so far was $6600 with r/t in J.

Edit: As a note, airfare on it's own seems to be about $6400 right now, give or take. So that's pretty much getting a hotel for next to nothing. Although it goes up from there pretty quick into the $7k plus range. On a second trip, not sure I want to fork that much over to stick around London an extra week since I'll be there in August for 9 days already. A few days (3 or 4 nights) should suffice.

I'd like to stick around $200/night, if possible.

One option I'm looking at for this trip (December, and will be second trip of the year over that direction) is just sticking around London. Depends on what deals I can find, but if it's less than $1000 difference between that and say an in/out from BRU or CDG, might as well just do London area for the whole time.

Overall general schedule (haven't filled in the blanks yet):

    • 12/11: Leave (would leave 12/12 if going direct into the UK)
    • 12/14: Sheffield
    • 12/18: London (Wembley area)
    • 12/23: Return

The 14th and 18th are the only dates set in stone. Other than that, I'm not tied to anything other than being back on the 23rd. So "in theory" I could fly into somewhere like BRU/CDG/AMS, make my way over for 14th, then go back on the 19th to wherever. As for where "wherever" is, that's a good question. I'm not tied to anywhere specifically, just looking for the overall best value for that time of year.

Look at the DoubleTree Kensington. It’s about a 6 minute walk from the Gloucester tube station, which is pretty centralized. Awesome area, in a the Kensington and Chelsea neighborhood. Close to Hyde Park and Harrods. Excellent breakfast buffet. But, rooms are definitely small. Most likely within your budget though. Mayfair is out of your price range.

  2. Prague is worth 1-2 days, no more. Pretty place and cheap but there’s not much to do there. I preferred Budapest, albeit, Budapest only has slightly more entertainment value.

Try the Bucharest to Budapest trek. Go up to Bran Castle for the Dracula kitsch and ride the train west. End in Prague. Hell of a roadtrip if you don’t mind driving.

Krakow is ok. Auschwitz is a must-see if you go there of course. I wouldn’t go out of the way to do it unless you are Jewish or a major WWII buff.

It sounds basic, but have you considered Russia? Wouldn’t be surprised if a travel ban was put in place the next few years. St Petersburg is awesome and Moscow is cool. You’d need a visa.

Any place between Dalllas and Houston worth stopping at?  Any route.

Every black guy I know loves Woody’s Smokehouse in Centerville off I-45 and makes me stop there on road trips. I go to Texas Burger next door.

Final season starts this Wednesday, March 28th. We know that the U.S. is gonna win the cold war, and the Soviet Union is gonna fail and splinter. Let's see how we get there.

    I’ll take that bet

  5. Oddly enough, Regina’s Pizza is edible. I’m not a seafood fan, but Atlantic Fish Co. always gets good reviews from clients as does Neptune Oyster.

If you must, go to Cask’n Flaggon by that shitbox they call a baseball park.

  6. You’re on the East Side. I’d go against the grain and try PJ Clarke’s on 55th/3rd. Definitely not your dress up kind of place and off the beaten track. But a famed local spot with excellent burgers and stiff drinks.

I’m sure you’ll get plenty of fancy recs from others.
