What's the over/under on Deuce Vaughn total rushing yards in the 2023 season?

I think a pollard/deuce/luedke backfield might be pretty good. 43 runs tough and blocks.

Feels like we're going to pick up another guy after final cuts.  Maybe not and they give Dowdle some run, but that's what it feels like.  It's interesting.  A big decision may come down to whether we dress a 4th RB or TE a cut time.  ST's will play a big role.... or injury.

    Cowboys roster is very deep

    McCarthy was fine calling plays

    Execution was sloppy early.

    Deuce is electric.

Damone Clark was all over the place.

    Mazi needs more development.

Ferguson is good, not sure why we drafter schoonyboy.

Grier is a practice squad guy.

That 6’6” wr Stephenson needs to see more action.

Turpin can be cut, nice guy but not good enough.

Jalen Tolbert has made the 2nd year jump and looks to be in good position for the 4th WR.

Isaiah Land had a really nice game.  May be PS but may be last edge guy kept.

John Stephens is gonna take someone's job.  He may end up better than the 2nd round kid.

I'm not real fans of our backup RBs.  Vaughn is a nice RB3 gadget guy, but Dowdle and the other kid look like jags.

Zack Martin was the biggest winner from tonight.  Jerrah is gonna eat shit and have to pay him because Ball sucks.

Hey, why break tradition.  2nd rounder with known injury misses crucial parts of mini and training camp.  At least he's practicing but he's way behind.... Wonder if we'll carry 4 TEs on the active roster.

Unused cap $$ rolls over into the next season’s cap. That means that if Dallas makes it through the 2023 cap year without reducing that $19.xMM cap space, Dallas can use that $$ toward paying Parsons.

    https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space

As of today, for 2024 Dallas only has $9MM in cap space

Okay, even if you believe they're trying to roll over cap space for a player, who will have 2 years left on his rookie deal and who's extension will almost surely be majority new and future money, not in 2024, and as stated they'll almost surely extend Dak who's number will become much more cap friendly along with either out right cutting DLaw or extending him for less cap hit.  Not only this, but competing teams don't generally rollover cap money more than 3m or so.  But even if you don't believe all that and the Cowboys are saving money for some sort of strange one year hit for a 4th year player, Jerrah certainly doesn't need to open his mouth and possibly alienate his 2nd best (arguably) player, which is the main point of which I was objecting to..... So if you want to live in fantasy land, let's fantasize together of Jerrah shutting the fuck up.

a Steam locomotive without a fireman to shovel coal into the firebox would NEVER be able to speed up, let alone keep going for 45 mins without additional fuel.

-and that doesnt even count the fact the engineers body blowing the STEAM whistle the entire time would have depleted the boiler of steam in mins.

So what? you say. totally understand, its just a movie.

But, its aggravating because the entire plot could have been kept exactly as it was filmed and kept the drama without the scientific error if they had just made it a diesel engine instead of steam.

Diggs extended 5/97, not sure all the specifics.   But it isn’t a reset the market contract….which I’m impressed with.

Looks like a good deal.  5th most for a CB as an extension so he plays this year as a seriously underpaid CB.  Obviously needs to play at same level or better.

That’s a pretty good O/U number. He’s averaged 2/3 interceptions per game for his career.

Actually, fractions isn't mine..... so I got it now.

If he plays 17 games, 10 would be fine if it comes with 30+ TDs.  He just needs to cut down on the RZ Int's..... on both ends.

  9. Dak will be 30 this summer.  In the next 2 years he needs to be on a team that gets to a Conference championship (where he plays well) or a SB.  Fair or unfair, this is how QBs are judged these days.  Brees, who was hearing a lot of the same criticisms at the same age, won the SB at 30.  Dak is a a weird age for a QB, you either get to a SB or win one and then you can have your 30's to try and get back there or you'll just be that "pretty good" QB (that he probably is) but always come with the rep of can't get it done.  A lot of QBs who can't get it done don't get to start after 32-33.  I'm sure there are couple but think about the older guys now -- Rodgers, Wilson, Ryan (done), Cousins, Tranny, etc.  Cousins and Tranny may be on their last years as starters in the league or be the gap starter for a rookie the rest of their careers.  Dak only has a couple of years before that's him.  Doesn't matter the stats he puts up.  Again, maybe it's fair, maybe it's not, but it's how the perception of QBs has grown.

The team has been competitive for several seasons. We’ll see this year if the issue was Kellen moore or Dak or both. They’ve improved the d in the areas needed to play with Philly and SF. Hopefully they find a kicker.

There is no complete team talent wise. Philly has o line issues and sf may not have a qb.

They still need a crazy as fuck LB who can play 3 downs but especially stop the run.  We still need a ballhawking safety to control the middle of the field.  We still need one more CB so we don't have to rely on guys who have always gotten beaten by playoff level WR corp, but certainly we made strides and sometimes the offseason doesn't present an opportunity like FS (weak ass draft, poor FA market), but I do hope Mazi can give us 25-30 good to very good snaps this year.  Health, as always, will typically dictate which one of the 5-6 real contenders go forward in the playoffs.

My real concern is Fat McCarthy back as a play caller.  He wasn't great in the last couple of seasons in GB and I'm not sure he's the answer now.  This could be a disaster on that side of the ball.  We'll still score points because we have talent but will he be better than Moore in crunch time?  Moore wasn't very good in in-game adjustments and it's never been McCarthy's calling card.  Or it could all come together and we could get to the Conference Finals.  Who knows.... but I do have some concerns about OL injuries and we need another RB desperately (not Zeke)....

I'd rather have Dhop than Cook.  At least Dhop may be able to bring in some of those "errant" passes from Dak.

Hopkins probably will cost 7-10m more than Cook so there's definitely a price difference.  Additionally, while the team has already admitted they fucked up with Cooper with the Cooks trade, doubling down and getting another high priced vet would be even more of a public transaction which admits how much they fucked up last offseason.  I'm not sure the marginal value Hopkins could bring would be worth it.  It will have to do where Gallup is in his 2nd year after injury.  If he sucks again..... man, what a mistake his contract was.

Would the Spurs be crazy to target Draymond Green in free agency?  He still averaged 9 PTS, 7 REB, 7 AST last year and played 73 games at 31.5 mpg.  Pop isn't getting any younger, so I think they should immediately shift into "win now" mode.  Draymond could help establish a winning culture and was still 2nd team All-Defense this year. His passing and style of play would also fit well with the Spurs.  He could also be a good mentor for Jeremy Sochan, who may someday have a comparable game.

No.  Wait, yes.  Why pay a declining player a ton of money who's also a major distraction especially when he plays a similar game to one of your foundation pieces.  Besides 19-20' which was weird, this is Draymond's worst year since his rookie's.  Maybe if he was insanely cheap but even then..... extremely doubtful.

He's on par defensively -- probably a little worse one on one and White is a witch at taking charges, but Vassell is a better overall team defender (help and playing passing lanes). He's 6 years younger.

But most of all, he's on a crazy developmental curve. They shut him down last year to keep the tank going, but look at how he's growing offensively as a player. I know nobody was watching and he sat out a ton of games, but he was flat out balling. He was their best player last season by far.

Granted, it's one thing to be a lower usage guy on a championship level team and another thing to be on a tank, but by the same token... Vassell hasn't exactly been feasting on easy looks created from his teammates. I imagine he's only going to be more effective and efficient once teams start having to account for Toothpick Vic. Which kind of brings us back to the White discussion, because it is so much easier for him playing off Tatum and Brown.

Yuck.  Vassell vs Kawhi is a crazy bad comparison.

The Hurts contract is what forced Lamar’s hand as he finally figured out a fully guaranteed contract wasn’t happening. He got a huge contract that was basically what the Ravens offered originally with a slight adjustment for Hurts change to the market. Had the Hurts contract not happened I believe he’d still be in the wind, or Ravens would have figured out a trade with Indy or someone else.

I'd like to be "forced" to sign one of the 2 biggest contracts in NFL history.  And no, it wasn't at all like the Ravens initial offer.  He received 50 million more in guaranteed dollars at initial signing and will get 40m in guarantees a year sooner than the initial offer, which will give him about 35m more in 2025.  In any terms, on any situation, unless something comes to light like it's not guaranteed for injury or a pot violation, Lamar did okay for himself and saved himself about 7.5m not hiring an agent.  You may not like Lamar or his game, but he bet on himself and did very well at the negotiating table.

Ringo got abused by ohio state WRs.  Also:

NFL Draft 2023: Why Georgia star defensive back Kelee Ringo is still available in Rd 4

I think it really comes down to two things with Ringo: Medicals and positional projectivity. You have to remember that he missed all of his true freshman season with a torn labrum. Although he bounced back from this devastating injury triumphantly, we have seen NFL teams poke and prod with Georgia players’ medicals more than they should (Nakobe Dean, Darnell Washington, etc.).

So yes, there may be some component having to do with Ringo’s surgically repaired labrum. However, I think it is the fact he is mostly a positionless defensive back out there.

He played corner mostly at Georgia, but we would often see him get burnt like toast and draw more yellow laundry than anyone in the Dawgs’ defensive backfield. He can run, but he does not exactly fly

Where Ringo has tremendous value at the next level is his ball skills and instinctive nature in that regard. If you want facsimiles to maybe what he can be, look no further than fellow SEC legends like Eddie Jackson and Tyrann Mathieu. Jackson and Mathieu are kind of safeties or slot corners more than anything. This may be the role Ringo has to play at the next level to sustain stardom.

Overall, I expect the intangibles will play a huge role in him having success at the professional. I have no clue how long or how productive Ringo’s career will be in the NFL, but you would rather have him on your team and in your defensive backfield than not.

Ringo may end up safety.  He has problems with his agility and turning in space.

Look at his RAS.  His shuttle and 3-cone are awful for a CB.  He's big and runs well straight ahead.  I think he could probably be a nice safety though. of not, a boundary corner.

A fave pickup of mine too in UDFA.  I'll say Dallas seems to have done pretty good in UDFA.  Like 5-6 were considered draft worthy by many.  Of course, we won't know until TC and these guys can see if they can contribute.  Some will go PS, some will go on the IR for a redshirt year, but I seem to remember we started like 3 UDFA's on offense for a game or two last year so they can contribute.

Dallas reached on nearly every pick. The highlight of the draft was a late round running back. When you spend a high draft pick on a blocking tight end while your main competitor in the division just stockpiled defensive talent, you know it was a bad weekend.

I'm okay with Schooner, I just dislike his age.  It'll be interesting to see how Washington does, but Schooner is actually a very good athlete so in a couple of years, he could really be a contributing player playing in a nice TE room with Ferg and Hendershot (UDFA).  I get he's not sexy.  This was a Dan Quinn draft so we'll see what happens.  Wasn't impressed by the slow corner we traded up for, either but I guess we'll see.  Definitely isn't going to win many Monday morning analyst grades and that's a little worrisome but they're wrong as much as they're right.  Didn't have a full "special teams" draft of infamy, but maybe not as far off.

He'll probably compete for 3rd down back and KR.  My concern is whenever they see him, defenses will simply blitz forcing him to play pass pro.  He'll have to show he can block.  If not, then he's just a little guy.  But dude has hands.

I'd like to see us kick the tires on Kareem Hunt.  Some rumors about he lost some speed but he was also playing on a bad ankle last year.  I'm intrigued if he has anything left more than Ronald Jones.  He's only 27-28.

  19. Sort of reminds me of Bradley Anae for Fehoko, in that he's a poor athlete but just absurdly productive.  Now Fehoko is much more versatile.  With his build and weight, he almost looks like a spin down option on passing downs but can probably play some RDE in certain packages, can play the run too.  Can't say I've seen enough of him to really weigh a heavy opinion.

Not sure how this helps you get to the QB, but certainly interesting trivia...

Ridiculous athlete, and if you can get him to run the defense as called and stay away from injury, you may have a special player. But those are two really big “ifs.”  They must have fallen in love with him, and heard some other team felt the same, hence the third round grade. But all the projections I saw had him much lower.

He needs to get stronger and he's a really good athlete but not an elite for the position.  I tend to trust Quinn's evaluations so I'll be cautiously optimistic and he'll be easy to root for but dude needs another 10 lbs on him and he needs to come in with his hair on fire.  I'll say this, McClay and company have a game plan for their drafts and they tend to stay very specific to them.  They don't account for falling players much and tend to ignore them if they do.  They did see the weaknesses as a lot of us did:

0-1 Tech, CB, TE, Hair on fire LB, RB, OG.  I expect to see a CB, RB or guard next....
