New shit has come to light...

    https://ksltv.com/local-news/jake-retzlaff-lawsuit/791607/

There is a fan conspiracy floating around the internet that the female was a Univ of Utah student and this was a setup to get him suspended. In other words, force him to claim the sex was consensual to get him suspended, and now drop the case. Sounds like bullshit, but that would be some next level skullduggery.

    I mean, I'd believe it.

Its all the same shit to me. I'd love to know which universities teach that Mormonism is a cult. Probably Baylor, lulz.

All of them that I've attended both public and private, including Baylor (hah), when looking at the history of religion in the United States. It's pretty undeniable that Mormonism was considered an outsider religion that was unacceptable to American society. Americans were not tolerant of other religions, like Catholicism, but not to the extent that Mormanism was to where its adherents were pushed further and further away from "polite society". It's also taught as a way to understand the Americanization of the figure of Jesus (like in Prothero's American Jesus) to where Americans remade Jesus to be more in their image and their ideals with it being an original American invention.

Obviously with the expansion of religious pluralism in the United States it has become much more acceptable to non-Mormons to where nobody cares if you're Mormon in 2025. The cultural history and current makeup of Mormonism and its traditions are still based upon that outsider image and the struggles they faced for centuries here.

The most amusing thing about this thread are all the comments singling out Mormonism as a cult, because somehow their version of  their sky fairy is weirder than all the other sky fairies out there.

If you study cults at the college level in the United States, then Mormonism is usually one of the main topics for the semester. Cult has a negative connotation, but it really just means a group of people that live outside of the norms of society especially religiously.

Do you think we'll at least get to see Arch lead the Horns to back to back undefeated seasons and national titles from the concentration camps?

Nobody is set up to win National Titles in the Stephen Miller Era like BYU. They're going to feast.

This. Get a big like Lopez or Kornet and this team can make the playoffs

One of Lopez, Capela or Kornet should be available to fill that back-up role and hopefully be enough to get over the playoff hump. Hell I wouldn't even be upset with a play-in appearance with the core being young and getting their feet wet. Sort of like the 2015 Astros.

Why do you think God invented Staten Island? It wasn't because he thought it was cool.

I agree with you on principle, but to be fair Mamdani promised some very silly and fantastical things.

Our society, as it currently stands, can accept anything with the exception of boredom. Anything that isn't silly or fantastical in the political realm is boring.

I love this headline from a local paper.

Real headline should read, "State rep pretends to need more information on topic that he felt confident enough to vote on, but now smells which way the wind is blowing in his party's power structure."

    Really enjoyed Department Q.

I thought that Morck's character progression was impressively done.  He's still a pompous ass at the end but much more likeable.

Overall, the character arcs are excellent and yes, Akram is the man.

I want to be Akram when I grow up

Please include The Flying Spaghetti Monster's "The Eight I'd Really Rather You Didn'ts"

    1. Don't be a sanctimonious jerk: Don't act superior or judgmental about others' beliefs.
    2. Don't use my existence to oppress: Don't use religion to harm or control others.
    3. Don't judge people based on appearance: Treat everyone with respect, regardless of how they look or dress.
    4. Don't engage in harmful behavior: Don't do anything that would offend yourself or a consenting adult.
    5. Don't build temples: The FSM doesn't want extravagant displays of worship.
    6. Don't put people in cages: This is a more direct call to action against oppression.
    7. Don't work too much: Prioritize happiness and well-being over endless work.
    8. Don't censor things: Encouraging open discussion and freedom of thought.

And how am I going to make any money off of this?

Still waiting for action on SB3. My prediction is that he doesn’t sign it, allows it to pass into law, and then calls a special session to “fix it” before it takes effect

I bet he doesn't sign it in the next hour and then just washes his hands of it and say its Dan's fault if needed.

Ok making progress on the transfer and car rental front.

Carm is setting me up with airport to ferry (plus bottle water for the family and a dos x for me), ferry tickets, pick up from ferry and transport to American car rental at the airport. There is a shuttle from the car rental to take us back to the airport.

I booked the car online, I booked the full size with a manual. To my surprise they didn't take a credit card for the reservation. If I pay in advance through the site, am I going to get beaten up with the exchange rate?

Speaking of, I recall reading in this thread about not using your cc to pay for stuff on the island. I hate carrying cash. That really my only option? Also not thrilled with the idea of having to stop at a grocery store or bank to pull out a bunch of cash once we land. I don't mind a lazy tax of a few bucks if I can exchange at a bank before I leave, but a couple hundred bucks lazy tax is a bridge too far. What is my best bet?

If this is your first time at CUN then be sure and talk to nobody when you leave the terminal. Straight ahead until you're outside and the CARM guy will be there with your name on the board.

The scammers inside will say "they're trying to help you find your driver", but most of the time they aren't.
