Pretty random? The whole movie you experience a sense of dread, especially watching the fetching Margot Robbie portray the vibrant Sharon Tate. You see this magnificent human go to the movie theater thrilled to see herself in the movie. You think, “Good god, she’s about to get filleted by some damn hippies!” And she’s pregnant. Fuck!

You’re wondering how Rick and Cliff are mixed up in this. Then the alternate ending. It’s amazing. The ultimate redemption. And if you have no clue about Manson or Sharon Tate, maybe you don’t have those thoughts and you miss out.

I can understand the criticism of many of Tarantino’s films as self-indulgent or overly long. The best movies are usually streamlined. Economic. No wasted scenes. Still, there was a lot of meat in this one.

Saw it opening night with no spoilers, totally expecting Quentin to lean into the murders. I laughed all through Cliff vs the Hippies, it was a surprise and a release. I saw it 3 times in the theater, including  the 35mm at Alamo.

I don't know if it's just a age thing. I took my 17 year old daughter and she loved it and is reading the book now.

If  a loud car drive by I'll say " bunch of god damn fucking hippies" as I drink directly from my blender.

Nice. Thanks. How are you liking the Moccamaster? What did you have before?

I was doing French Press almost exclusively.

The Moccamaster is pulling out new and different flavors from the beans. I fell in love with the design at first, but reading and watching videos sold me.  My girlfriend complains that her coffee is not hot enough, and I tell her that's because she used to her cheap drip boiling her coffee.

Still like the Scala? I have a Virtuoso that is good but not amazing. Do all burr grinders accumulate half ground beans that never get processed? Maybe I just have too high expectations.

Also I’m waiting for my current coffee maker to kick the bucket to get a Moccamaster.

Yes, I'm happy with the Scala. There is a small post grind static issue but I've read that's a issue among lots of grinders. Yes, there are some leftover grind, I tilt it forward and tap the back, (like burping a baby) before removing the dispenser. It is less expensive than the Encore.

We replaced our Bonavita with a Technovorm Moccamaster and we are loving it. It has a physical on/off switch, which lends itself to connecting to a smart plug. I ask Alexa to turn off the coffee pot as soon as I wake up and the pot is ready by the time I make it to the kitchen.

Like the Bonavita, it’s certified by the SCAA and makes a pour over like pot of coffee in a thermal carafe that stays hot for hours.

Just got the pistachio green model and the smart plug hack is great. The classic design, color and flavors just make the mornings better. It really is a beautiful machine.

Truth is fine, but it is not line worthy IMO.   Pinkertons tends to be better but my last visit was subpar, made me wonder if the new location is sapping talent or focus from the Houston location.

Pinkerton in SA for Father's day, easily #2 behind 2M as best in town. Talked to Grant for a few minutes, (surprised to see him) so you might be right about the SA location taking priority.

Not pictured - several bottles of Ranch Water.

With the CAP offer, students are already accepted to these other schools.  There are a list of courses they have to choose from for their required 30 hours.  If they make 3.2 in those 30 hours, they are automatically accepted into the UT school of liberal arts the next year.  Not sure if they actually pick a program at UTA/UTSA or not.  I'm just wondering if UTA/UTSA offers scholarships to CAP students.

Glad I found this topic. My daughter received the CAP offer as well. She was accepted to several New York schools, so the CAP offer was a nice surprise for me to keep her close.

I'm not totally fimillar with it, but I'm assuming it's still something special that not everyone gets offered.

  9. This is not one of those "look what I found on the street" BS stories. My dad, the retired jazz station manager and DJ, passed away at Christmas. Here is a small sample of what I brought back from being home for the funeral this weekend. There are a couple hundred still left in his closet that his wife (not my mom) is holding. I had been slowly cherry picking albums, each summer trip back home. Sometime in the mid 80's, we had about 2,000 jazz albums in the house.

Just last week, I posted how bummed I was to missed out on the Sidewinder reissue. Come to find out, my dad's 1st stereo release copy was waiting for me the whole time.

I really need to keep up with this thread better.  Going to turn on notifications or something.    Then again, I was saving money by letting my VMP account expire after receiving "The Hawk Flies High" (which is fantastic).  VMP turned me on to McCoy Tyner with "Sahara."  So I probably *have* to get The Real McCoy.

    Thanks, dude.

Agreed! I missed out on The Sidewinder, but Cannonball Adderley is pre-ordered and waiting for Moanin' to drop next.

To be clear, I'm not really using it as a rankings thing.  I'm using it  to discover and go through things I haven't heard.  If I already have heard it I'm skipping for now (used to have the Diana Krall on CD for example).   Mainly on Spotify, although a few of those albums are not on it and I wind up searching the youtubes for them.  I'm only using the rankings as bookmarks for where I am.  Started at 100 and am now on 77.

In my experiences with Jazz I tend to focus on one artist or style for too long (already have a bunch of Monk, for example), so going through this is an attempt to expand my "jazz base."

That's a great idea. My dad had a jazz radio show and  was the station general manger, so my education was at home. Although, like most kids I rebeled against what was playing on my parents turntable. Of course, I was paying attention the whole time and found my own paths through the jazz landscape.

  12. I remember watching Monaco on Wide World of Sports as a kid, but then in the 90's-2000's, it felt very snobby, elitest and too technical.

For me it started when COTS was built, and seeing Riccardo's love of Texas. But I really flipped watching Drive to Survive on Netflix. That brought me 180 and taught me things you don't see on the telecast.

My dad was a huge Schumacher fan and had his home office fully decked out in Ferrari merch. He just passed away this Christmas, and I didn't get a chance to get him to COTA. I wish I had gotten back into earlier. Maybe Daniel will get a shoey for my dad this year.

  13. Giovanni is available and I'm seeing Drake on a few "sit" lists, but I've rolled with him most of the year.  I also have Gaskin sitting on my bench. Maybe move one into flex? Right now, I have Gage.

I'm overthinking this final game, but my dad is about to pass away and all this extra research  is actually a decent distraction.

So, I was able to grab J.Hurts, but now I'm having second thoughts starting him over D.Watson. Any thoughts?

So, Hurts has the same amount of points at halftime, sitting on my bench, as Watson finished the game with. Good thing I still have JuJu and Diontae playing tomorrow.

I was able to watch this episode with my 8 year-old son, and it's going to be one of those memories we treasure - when the X-Wing pulled in, I think he thought it might be the X-Wing cops that seemed to pop up randomly, but it was clicking in my head that it was only one X-Wing, and I had been waiting on the Jedi that Grogu called out to.

My kid started shaking and just bouncing up and down on the couch next to me when the green lightsaber came out and he realized who it was.

My inner child stated shaking and bouncing when the green lightsaber ignited. I still didn't believe it until he lifted the hood, then the ugly cry started. (No shame in that statement) 😎 Rewatching with my daughter tonight.
