  1. Being born and bred in El Paso, I'll echo what everyone else has already posted. Weather is nice, except for spring dust storms. Also, El Paso is connected to the Western power grid, so less chance of death in winter. Hell, even Alamo Drafthouse House moved in a couple of years ago.

IF I could get 3 times my San Antonio salary, I would give it a hard look, and I have no living family there anymore.

I would stick to the westside of town. Can't beat the sunsets over the New Mexico valley.

Went on Friday and did the bus from downtown. I was on the first bus in the morning and they seemed to run smoothly, though I did hear some stories of drivers getting lost. Came back after FP2. Food and drinks were good and I liked that they had water refill stations. Sun was brutal and shade was at a premium, but it's central Texas, so it is what it is.

Overall a great experience. Turn 12 was amazing. Loved the smell of the breaks.

We used the Waterloo Park shuttle and had zero problems. We started walking out the Main Grandstand about 7pm and I was pulling out of the  Waterloo parking garage at 8.

Yeah I don't ever wear them.  We always watch at least one session in the main grandstands, and in the turbo hybrid era, ear protection just hasn't been necessary.  However, as @Goofyboy points out, some of the cars in the support races are louder than the F1 cars.  And since both support races are vintage cars, some of those are really loud.  You might want some when they're running.

However, @Chewbacca is giving you the responsible advice, like a grown adult or something, and it's probably wise to listen to him. :)

The responsible dad did pack ear plugs for me and the kid. It's just loud enough to not need them.  😁

  4. We are sitting in row 3 of the main grandstand tomorrow. Should I pick ear protection? Last time at COTA was 2017, and we sat near the top of the turn 10 bleachers. Volume was nice in the open air, and different cars back then.

I feel like it was that way last year too. A Saturday ticket is still $100+ after fees. Sunday is $300+.

Then you add in parking and the hassle of COTA.

Just posted because of the conversation a few weeks back. If you've never seen the cars, then Friday is a good way to do it without much cost or hassle. If you really want to watch the race, then get F1Tv.

I picked up two tickets on Row 3 in the main grandstand on  Friday for under $100 including StubHub fees.  Hell, the shuttle from Waterloo Park is going to be more expensive.

That's what I did (T9), but it depends on what you want besides just a place to sit.

I've been to Saturday qualifying. If we skip Green Day (seen them before), seems like we will only be out there for a couple of hours.  Anything else unique about Friday sessions?

I mean, I don't want a charity chuckle.  I was going for funny.  If it wasn't funny then just say so.

In unrelated news, I've decided I'm going to buy and wear that Ricciardo "Texas Shoey" t-shirt to the Dell-McLaren event before the USGP.  Maybe it'll catch Danny's eye... :)

I mentioned this to my daughter and now she wants to hang around the Moody after (or skip) class that day. 🤘

    Link to Tshirt?

I know I’m the only one watching, but UTEP went from 2nd and 30 to scoring a TD in two plays then scoop and scoring for a TD to break open a 24-7 lead.

this would be their first win the in the eastern time zone ever, which is kind of mind blowing.

I'm watching and hoping they hang on, but I've seen this movie way too many times in my life.

  10. How is it getting in/out of the Speedway or San Antonio garages? We're coming from the north and want to stay above campus.

I'm assuming with a big lead,  the crowd will stagger their exit, so maybe doesn't matter anyway.

When things with Mrs. Bullneck #1 were unravelling back in 1995/6 I was away on a work assignment and listening to Achtung Baby and Zooropa.

There's a few songs like "The End of the World" and "Who's Going to Ride Your Wild Horses" and "Daddy's Going to Pay for Your Crashed Car" that won't make you feel any better.

What I really needed back then was Oasis.

I was coming here to mention Achtung Baby, as most of is about The Edge's divorce at the time. He would later recover nicely with the belly dancer from the ZooTv tour.

There is a funny quote by Bono to the effect of "I can't believe how many people come up to us and say One was their wedding song. Don't they read the lyrics?!?"

  12.  I made it to 54 without anything up my backside , however a year of occasional abdominal pain has me a little worried I waited too long.

The good news, it's also my birthday, so post op weekend will be gluttonous. 🤘
