What you’re seeing is kids starting to develop at different times and rates.  Playing multiple sports is better, helps balance out the burden on the body.  Let him tell you what he wants to play, and understand that he isn’t going to be a professional.  Experience, enjoyment and memories are what’s most important from kids sports.

I certainly agree when it comes to baseball and football.  Soccer?  Not sure... look at other countries that excel in soccer.  Brazil, Italy, Argentina, etc.  They play soccer allllll the time.  They live and breathe it.  Yes, there are other sports like maybe basketball or volleyball (big for males in other countries) but for the most part they are playing soccer.

My son plays on a U9 team.  They are year round in that they have a fall and spring season with breaks in-between.  If I can provide you with any advice, focus on a club that emphasis player and technical development and not a club that focuses on exclusively winning.  Those clubs often have a couple of stars who don't pass and just run up and down the field and try to score every time. Find a team that focuses on ball possession, passing, player development... eventually, winning will come.  Those teams ultimately are the ones that end up putting more players in soccer academies and on college teams.

Oh, and our youngest does play basketball and baseball but as we just saw over the past couple of months, he'll put on his baseball uniform before a game and go outside and play soccer.

Players like Lampkin are why I wish the NFL relocates a franchise to the Mexico City market. Cleveland isn't enough of a professional sports purgatory for some players. Mexico City would be perfect for Lampkin.

Written by someone who has not spent much time in Mexico City.

Nonetheless, he could use his Spanish skills so it would be a win-win.

  3. Yup... some places like A-Basin and Grand Montets still open but the list of open resorts is getting teeny.

Starting to think about 2018 ski season already?  I may not have an ACL anymore but my PT says that based on how I am doing 6 weeks post-injury, I will most likely be able to go skiing without surgery.  All I know is I am already looking forward to next season...

If only I could find a picture of the original Comedy Workshop.  Used to see T Sean Shannon, Charlie Shannon (was hilarious), Jeanine Garofalo... this was the late 80s and they were there on open mike night.

Charlie Shannon used to show up and just tear apart the audience.  It was a riot.

  5. Just started watching last night... could be very interesting.  Was a huge fan of LOST so we'll see if they can turn this into something worthwhile.  LOST had some great characters.  Will this show find guys like Locke, Hurley, etc.?

  6. I have to agree... its a show I can't stop watching and, yes, Pauly D has always been the most likeable and oddly most reasonable character.  Guy has turned his moment in the sun into years in the sun.  Seems like he keeps his nose clean.

I wish I could convince my wife to do something like this.

It's a great suggestion and your wife has no idea what she is missing.  Three summers ago we stayed on the Gargano peninsula in Puglia and spent time on the beach, also took day trips on the peninsula and longer side trips to Alberobello, the grotte di Castellana (caves), Melfi in Basilicata, Laghi di Monticchio... it was amazing.  Yes, everyone was awesome, the pace was easier and the prices drastically cheaper.  Aside from Alberobello, we heard one American in two weeks.  One.  Mind you, this was in July during the middle of tourist season.  People have no idea what they are missing out on.

As for wood burning ovens, I can drive two miles from my house and go to a pizzeria that uses the proper ingredients and had their oven built in and shipped over from Naples.  I've had great pizza Napoletana in many places.  Yes, not the same water but if you nail the other ingredients and cook it right, you can get great pizza napoletana in Rome, Trapani, wherever.

  8. Once again, concessions at COTA are a total joke... absurdly slow (if they move at all lines), watching workers struggle to figure out how to hook up extra registers, waiting in line on Saturday around lunch (not Sunday) and being told that advertised menu items weren't going to be available.  Really?  What a joke.  I want to keep seeing races there but they need to fix so much... feels like we write this after EVERY event.
