Last time in Paris was in June a few years ago.  In a nice hotel, but it had weak AC.  This July will be even hotter.

A lifetime ago, I used go to Paris/St. Cloud on business in the summer... imagine summer heatwaves while wearing a suit.  It sucked.  I was dying and, yes, even got to enjoy a taxi ride to Orly with a non-deodorant wearing coworker.  Good times.

I'd venture to say five days in Paris is plenty and, if she's already been there a few times, I can totally see how your wife wouldn't want to do five days.

Paris is beautiful architecturally but it can be one hell of a big city tourist trap and once you've seen the Eifel Tower or Arc, you've seen it.  We just did three days and could have done four, but that would have been about all we needed.  To each his own, though.  We didn't do it on our last trip, but I'd love to do Normandy for a day if we ever went back.  We did do a bike tour of Versailles and actually really liked it.

With all due respect, you sound like an idiot

I guess I missed that.  There is so much to Paris than the two most popular tourist sites.  Seriously.  I mean, I hear that garbage about Rome.  I've been there over a dozen times and there's still stuff I haven't seen (in part because I try to avoid the tourists).   Now, granted, I might stop there for a few days than hop an overnighter to the Alps to avoid the crowds and the heat but that's me.

The last time we went to Paris, we made it a point to take a day trip somewhere.  Since most people were going to Versailles, we went to Chartres and loved it.  Very peaceful - beautiful city.

  4. Man, I'm going to start unloading my cards.  I have so many from my younger years.  Anything good in them?  Not sure... a bunch of 80s - 90s rookie cards but I'll probably starting eBaying a a bunch of .99 listings.

  5. Bump

Taking my son to visit Western Carolina University and plan on staying in Asheville for two nights.  Does it matter where you stay in town if you have a car?  Also, any good idea on some off-the-beaten path hikes?  Although he may want to visit the NP so I imagine we would go in through Cherokee.

  6. Hot Summer Nights lineup just dropped...

I want to go see Pussy Gilette again.  Plan on seeing Gus Baldwin & the Sketch, Nolan Potter's Nightmare Band, Queen Serene/Prehuman (99% sure they'll be on the same bill) and... finally... its time to see one of the best-named bands in Austin... Subpar Snatch (well, tied with Chancla Fight Club)

Yeah, I just didn't know if that was a return to form or a one-off.

His SXSW show last year (the one I saw) was definitely straight up blues/rock.  This also insinuates he's back to his roots for now...

I'd definitely pick Ian Moore (rock mode) over Next of Kin, who really need to work on being even more precious.  Blech.

Just remembered we were at the same show at the Austin Music Awards in March 2024...

Ian Moore, Eve Monsees... Speedy Sparks on bass, Chris Layton (can't see him) was on drums.  Ben Buck was ready to go on next.

Is he back to the Texas gunslinger Ian or is he still folkie Ian?

I'd go see the guy with the strat and a really loud amp.

Last two shows I've seen he's been slaying with the guitar.  From what I know, he really wanted to explore the other style but we know what pays.

I've never done this series, looks cool though.  We saw Ian  Moore a few weeks ago at Antone's, he was just as good as ever.

Seen him a couple of times over the past year as he was starting to put on more shows... one at SXSW at last year at the Austin Music Awards.  His playing is so spot on.  Haven't been to these either but might opt for this on Thursday instead of the Drop-In.
