Group of friends had an extra ticket to Idles so I'm going to catch the show tomorrow night at Moody Amphitheater. Admittedly did not know much about Idles but have listening and it looks like it will be an amazing show.

I'm having regrets for voting Whitmire. The city already spent millions of dollars preparing to move into a very nice new library, but now he decides on his own to renovate an old dilapidated library at the cost of 14.5 million because it's close to a bar that used to host drag shows. This isn't the first time he decided to make changes without local councilmember and residents input. He's also fucking up the plans to rebuild Montrose Blvd.
https://houstonlanding.org/stakeholders-stunned-by-mayors-announcement-that-montrose-library-move-is-off-the-table/
The Montrose Library’s long-planned move to the Montrose Collective on Westheimer Road — to which the city has already dedicated millions of dollars — is officially off the table.
The announcement from Mayor John Whitmire during a Tuesday morning press conference came as a surprise to many, including City Councilmember Abbie Kamin, whose District C includes Montrose; Steve Radom, the developer behind the Montrose Collective; and many library employees. He said relocating the library to Westheimer would position it “very close to adult entertainment, on the third story of a commercial building, behind the hamburger building. When I saw it, I said, ‘Not on my watch.’”
Who could ever have foreseen this.

You would rather sleep in 80 degrees than in 50?
I was without power after Ike for 2 1/2 weeks. Then the ice storm in 2023 was maybe 5-6 days (can't remember)
Cold weather power loss > Warm weather power loss and it's not even close. I'll hang out in my ski gear in cold weather. I don't care. I can sleep under a bunch of blankets and in warm clothing. Pizza over and grill work the same in cold as in warm weather. Not much you can do to cool off in the summer without power. Nighttime is pure misery.
Oh... and when cold weather is on the horizon, you can buy a half cord of wood to have on hand if you need it. Can't stockpile ice.

42 years ago my grandfather (along with two friends, a husband and wife) was executed by firing squad on the orders of a freshly appointed 21 year old city prosecutor, Ebrahim Raisi. My family is not Muslim, and my grandfather's death was ordered after he continued to refuse to convert to Islam.
Man, I've heard crazy stories of how high ranking former Iranian officials were hunted down and executed. I'll leave it at that but pretty insane stuff. I've had many Persian friends and acquaintances over the years and have always felt like there is an odd Persian/Italian similarity specifically in the non-Muslim community.

That looks like it sucks.
Actually working on the back table on the back porch. 11 AM and still feels reasonable. By noon I'll have to turn on the ceiling fan above me but I seem to get a good southern breeze to blow in the backyard and we have lots of shade. This summer gonna suck, though.

It only opened in 2020 (or 2021, I think) but Meanwhile is one of my favorite "something for everyone" places in Austin. Four food trucks, great beer, other drinks for those who don't want beer, lots of shade, a soccer pitch for the kids, playground and a big stage for live music and a massive TV. Parking can be a bitch but its worth it.

Bodies in the fallen over trees?
Here is the sustained winds speeds during Ike. I am not dismissing what occurred yesterday and have genuine empathy for all those impacted. But a hurricane causes that kind of destruction on a much much larger scale. Maybe your neighborhood is worse after this storm than after Ike, but Ike impacted an entire region. Large parts of SE Texas were without power for up to 4 or 5 weeks. Gunspoint just can’t help his hyperbolic self.
Guess what? That map doesn't show? 120 mph winds.

Man, trying to figure out if I can convince my wife. Looks really good.
As of now...
5/30 - Thievery Corporation
6/4 - Queef Jerky (son's choice - looks confirmed)
7/12 - New Kinds of the Block/Paula Abdul/DJ Jazzy Jeff (wife's present)
7/24 - Struts
9/24 - Goth Babe
W1 ACL
10/30 - DJ Shadow
Still on the fence on a few shows like Sofi Tukker and Cake and I'll definitely go all in on Hot Summer Nights on Red River. Lots of other local shows sprinkled in. My buddy is releasing an album at the Continental Club on June 7th.

they key is not Great! but great - no caps, no exclamation point... lower case, no emotion so that it is as vague as possible.

Funny, I had two posters. This one was considered acceptable but the other one has to come down. Trying to remember the actress's name but she was definitely naughtier
